Seems to me that certain users will try to make some flame bait in hope that a thread will get closed down
Ironically, this topic will also probably be locked later on.
We are allowed to talk and discuss about Halo, the good points and the bad points, but in a constructive manner. Another reason for a topic being locked could be that there are already topics similar to it that are either still open or have been discussed to death (at which point they normally end up with people throwing insults at each other).
Well the only way I can pull up a list of what posts I’ve flagged is by my inbox with moderator discussion, so until they get to recent ones I have no record other than digging through posts. But here’s one for not too long ago when the OPI promo was first announced:
https://forums.halowaypoint.com/t/free-armour-coating-with-opi-purchase/488338/28?u=hot_juicy_pie
Where the guy was literally using transphobic slurs throughout the entire thread.
Another more recent one, I can’t remember the guys name, but literally used the threat “don’t make me assume your gender” to try and get a point across.
Most of those types of posts get removed pretty rapidly, so if you haven’t seen them. Consider yourself lucky.
What’s sad is. He’s correct. men’s T have been going down across the board for some time now. Halo is now a teen rated game as well. Sure you can say that younger kids played mature rated games back then but it is a teen rating now. On top of that there has been a certain group pushing their way into every part of life so that’s most likely why he called them out. He’s clearly talking about a bigger picture but ofcourse I can’t discuss this at length because “it wouldn’t be about Halo” even tho it affects Halo a lot. You can see it in the cat ears. You can see it in the body types you can choose from. You can see it in the frilly cosmetics. Something is going on here and people refuse to acknowledge it and those that do are called the bad guys like what you just did
It’s called being open and accepting to other people and respecting them as human beings.
But if that’s you’re way of thinking, we have nothing further to discuss.
I think it’s automated because people are flagging them.
Very surprised is hasn’t been locked for talking about moderation
In locking topics you are censoring people. Not just ‘trolls’ but everyone.
Some people might have opinions you dont like but theyre allowed to have them and you dont have to acknowledge them. Whatever happened to not feeding the trolls? It seems people have forgotten.
Abuse of the flagging system doesnt fix anything.
Without the context of the thread I really struggle to see that as a threat, and no I am not trying to bamboozle.
Well the individual was speaking directly to @KCD0DGER, a known trans woman in our community, in a demeaning manner. I’m pretty sure it was in the thread about price changes, but I can’t recall and it’s too difficult to navigate waypoint on my phone to find the direct source.
Nah I think 343 are completely within their right to lock down posts. Too many forum posters since launch are posting nothing but hateful rants about employees or as a whole and incessantly whining about having to pay for things that are completely optional and not required on an entirely free game.
The original Halo community in the Bnet days didn’t come across this entitled ever.
I say that the posts should be ONLY positive and constructive. If there is any hate, rants or whining shut that post down asap!
Then nothing would ever get done. EA’s Battlefront 2 may’ve completely failed due to a lootbox based progression system had people not spoken up so loudly and even got media attention. Sometimes to fix a problem you either need to fix it yourself or tell someone who can.
You can be negative and constructive.
That’s me! I’m known! and trans! in the community!
that visibility is really cool thank you.
They had their moments but yeah, it was never this bad.
Definitely true, but rules were enforced to a “T”.
I was a good person, followed the rules, never lashed out, and I got slapped with a lifetime ban because I posted an article that didn’t outright share leaks for Halo Reach, but had a single paragraph that alluded to them.
They were stringent on their rules, far more stringent than monitors are here.
Yet 343 have publicly addressed everything that the playerbase has very, VERY actively spoken out about.
If you read their socials they are very adamant in responding to the feedback and making said changes which shall help ease frustrations while also allowing the company to make a profit from the game that they made free.
Every man and their dog has been VERY loud about MTX in the game. Im absolutely sick to death hearing about it. as it has already been addressed multiple times.
“it’s free”
“It’s optional”
“Should only be positive”.
Sounds like this is going to be the mantra going forward. Forever waiting on updates. Forever in an echo chamber.
You can’t comply your way out of bad business practices
I disagree that things should only be positive and constructive. Maybe if you’d have said or. I think constructive criticism is fine and has it’s place. And a lot of the changes that are coming to the game wouldn’t have happened without the feedback.
Also, while I do agree they’re within their right to shut down anything they like. I do think a lot of the negativity is understandable. In their Insider Infinite articles they promised things and intentionally built up hype (they even reference doing this). They did not meet the promises they made. And it makes sense that people wouldn’t be happy about that.
Personally, I think they should take a lesson from From Softwares playbook. Look at how they built hype for Elden Ring. They didn’t tell people anything. For years we knew nothing, but people only grew more excited. And you know what? If the game comes out and it’s not what I expected, well, I can’t blame the developer, because they made little promises. I’m not saying 343 should do exactly what From did, but when you don’t make promises you can’t keep, people can’t be mad at you for failing to keep them.
I still struggle to see how it is a bad business practice if it’s NOT essential. They have to turn a profit somehow…
343 said they are actively in motion with reducing store prices anyway, also removing bundled items and making them available to be acquired individually as well.
I never seen anyone try to silence anyone. What I do see is comments that go against the narrative being censored.
I also don’t see how your identity matters in a conversation about a video game. There should be male and female body types and that’s as far as a game should go and that’s as far as the conversation should go. Should people be able to name themselves what they want? Ofcourse. Should their be options to identify what you are? Ofcourse. But does your identity matter in the conversations of a video game? Not really. Mine either. I never felt the need to announce what I was in order to make a point in a Halo fourm.
No one should. They can disagree with you all they want. Heck, you and I have disagreed. But you don’t deserve to be silenced by anyone. Keep on keeping on.
