Top 5 Weapons with the largest skill gap and why!

Sure you can get kills with these weapons, but to be proficient with them in most situations? Well, that takes skill. I am NOT including Warzone weapons because, well, because it’s Warzone. Also not including grenades because I just don’t feel like it. I’m also not saying these are the best or strongest weapons, but these weapons will take some adapting to use effectively compared to the rest of the weapons in Halo 5. In order of smallest to largest skill gap:

Carbine (probably the weakest among the rifles, you really need a quick trigger finger and aim to be effective against a DMR or BR)
Light Rifle (with slow fire rate and usefulness only when scoped, you need to scope-in and fire every time simultaneously when getting hit, you really need to make every shot count)
Sniper Rifle (with a slow reload time and only 4* shots per clip, you have to make every shot count)
Plasma Caster (while the splash damage covers up your mistakes, you have to lead or drop your shots and pace your shots for moving targets)
Plasma Pistol (the “noob combo” separates the men from the boys. You need to hold down the weapon (making you vulnerable), track your target until the reticle turns red, switch to your scoped weapon, and land a head shot, all while making sure you don’t over drain the weapon. Too many players think it’s too much work and would rather use simpler methods. A Halo 2 veteran’s favorite method of disposal)

*fixed

u forgot the storm rifle. The skill gap in how to pace it is huge´. Experienced players can dominate with it, while others will overheat it before killing the target.

That’d be an honorable mention along with the Bolt Shot and Pistol.

Plasma Pistol is a supporting weapon and shouldn’t in this list.
And everyone can stun a tank 5 times and hijack it. So thats not a skill-gap weapon.
Carbine has a lower time to kill than the BR so everyone with a Rapid-fire controller can dominate with it, and the fact that you have to be able to trigger quickly doesn’t make it a skill-gap weapon.
Plasma caster can shoot Plasma nades or cluster bombs, so everyone can hold down an area with it.
Sniper rifle has 4 shoots per clip and it is extremly easy to usejust play a few rounds of Halo 2/3 and you realize that sniping is easier than ever. You don’t even have to hit the head just the area around it kills the spartan.
Light rifle hasa 3-shoot potential so everyone who is able to zoom in can dominate the other team, just stay out of range and it is easy mode.

The pistol has a high skill gap because of it’s weird aim-assist.
Halo 5 has almost no skill gap, atleast if you compare it to other Halo games. Killing your enemy is easier than ever.

The fact that you have to hit your enemy with a non fully automatic weapon doesn’t automatically make it a skill weapon.

True true.

Like I said, no warzone and should have mentioned no BTB.

sniper has 4 shots

I don’t think you understand the point of this topic.

This is about skill gap, here is how casual players use these weapons:
plasma pistol - they don’t know how to use it
carbine - they spam it hoping to get hits
plasma caster - they aim it like any other gun
sniper - they end up wasting all 4 shots and maybe getting 1 hit
light rifle - once they get descoped, they panic

once you get good with these weapons, they are EASY to use. but most people I’ve come across have no idea how to use these weapons.

fixed, thanks

I honestly love all maps that have a light rifle. I don’t know why but I shoot so much better with that then the battle rifle. In particular, i believe it’s fathom that I usually do well on solely because there are lightrifles a plenty. I am also relatively bad as you can look at my accuracy and stats.

Who doesn’t know how to use the Plasma pistol? It’s easy and called noob combo for a reason. One of the most effective quick killing methods since the beginning.

a lot of newer players don’t even pick it up.
I’ve seen the noob combo used by people maybe once every 10-15 games playing against Plats/Diamonds/Onyx

The thing about the sniper is it has crazy bullet magnetism. Other than that I agree.

very true.

but if anyone faced a good sniper that get’s 3-4 kills each clip, doesn’t panic when snap shotting in close quarters, that’s skill.

so many times when my teammates grab the sniper rifle I hear 4 shots go off and 0 kills. XD

What do you think of the Hydra?

I think I would put the beam rifle over the sniper rifle.

ridiculously easy to use when locked on. it does all the work for you.
near useless mid-range when unscoped/no lock on.
2-3 direct shots unscoped close-range is usually an insta-kill.

EDIT: just checked my stats with the Hydra in arena:
KILLS
69
SHOTS LANDED
407
SHOTS FIRED
654

ACCURACY
62%
POSSESSION
43M 7S
that’s like getting 1.5 kills every minute I have it equipped, not super awful. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was debating it, but the no reload time and the ability to double shoot to cover up an initial miss faster than the sniper rifle kept it off my list.

The only weapon I use out of the one’s mentioned by OP is the Carbine, and that’s only when a BR isn’t available
