top 5 things toxic players say in Arena/Slayer

I’ve been playing Halo 5 a lot. And must have invested 20,000+ hours through Halo CE to Halo 4. Don’t let the gamertag fool you, I have 3 different accounts at SR50+. I mainly play slayer and arena, and here’s what I find to be common things toxic players say. Sure there’s players who betray or badmouth their team, but this is for players who play more for themselves than for the team. What’s worse: they can’t change their style of play because they refuse to. I’m not saying these players are poor skilled, but it’s hard to find chemistry/success with players like this:

"Where’s my team?! No one has my back!"
I find this from players to trail off from their team assuming they are being covered by their teammates. They usually have short lifespan since they are always outnumbered. Never assume you have backup, and if you do, don’t rely on it.

"…I’m not touching the objective"
Yes, slaying has an important role in objective games, but when the game is on line and a player refuses to play the objective because they only want to slay, there’s a good chance the other team will play the objective and win.

"I’m having a bad game, I’m not trying anymore."
Sure players have bad games, but guess what, the rest of your team still want to win and may not be having good games. For one player to throw in the towel usually snowballs into a loss. Can be worse than being a 4 v 3 since that player is feeding the other team kills faster.

"my k/d is horrible, I’m going to hide"
Now, there’s a smart way to hide and a bad way to hide. A bad way to hide is to be in an area where you can’t help your team in anyway and the game ends up being a 4 v 3 since they took themselves out of the game and may spawn their teammates over and over again in a poor position. They think they are helping the team, but really are putting them at a disadvantage.

The smart way to hide is to be a very elusive player while keeping on the move helping your team in anyway (cleaning up kills, calling out, camping with close range weapons) ready to retreat or hide at anytime, but also move from cover when needed.

"Why do I suck so much? I was doing so well last game"
Adapting is very important in matchmaking. Not every player you face plays the same way as the previous player. When you’re in a party of 4 similarly skilled players, and you are constantly having negative k/d games while your team has positive k/d (with a game or two of you having a positive k/d after a string of negative k/d games), there’s a good chance you are not adapting or changing your play style. One dimensional players end up suck in an “auto-pilot” mode while versatile players tend to have more success.

Yeah I’m definitely guilty of the top one sometimes haha. The general lack of chatter on xbl these days I think encourages players to play for themselves rather than for the team unfortunately. Bang on the mark though, have definitely seen all of those people and been at least some of those people in one game or another at some point. Sorry to any teams I let down!

I keep my mic on mute 99% or mute others… but got to admit sometimes you do hear some funny -Yoink- when ppl start raging.

I would have said “Come on guys” or something thats basically telling others to do better when they are the lowest player on the board would be on their but those 5 work out pretty well. I say the first one from time to time but thats only when I just saw a teammate next to me or on my radar following me and then they go poof the moment I hit combat, or if I ask someone to back me up for stuff like objective reasoning and they say ok but wander off in the middle of it

Yeah, just like the millennial generation - I always hear kids blaming others and not themselves.

“You guys are trash! I’m not going to sacrifice my k/d trying to carry you, good -Yoinking!- god you guys are awful.” following with quitting.

shorts fired.

lol love it “why dont you have my back, wheres my team” well maybe if you called out where you were instead of just rushing in getting stomped youd have back up. only calling out when you die is ineffective.

I think you’ll find that bullets are more effective than your shorts! :joy:

I am guilty of sometimes saying these things, although I try not to over the mic. And I never actually mean it, unless I’ve got an absolutely terrible teammate, then I definitely mean it.

Teammates bailing on you is a very real thing. You have no idea how many times I have grabbed the flag with my team nearby and escorting me only for them to flake leave me to handle a 4v1. I understand that expecting your team to be constantly watching back is absurd but you’d think they would have the sense to protect the carrier.

EXACTLYYY.

They expect us to keep tabs on them without focusing on ourselves or other teammates. :sigh:

I hear stuff like this all the time. It’s like they really believe that the world revolves around them, that all their teammates know what they are doing at all times as if we all have psychic powers.

Another similar thing I hear is “My teammates suck!” Sometimes I hear it from the guy who’s doing worse than literally everyone else in the game.

lol I find myself saying this sometimes. For those who played with me before, I’m a “team first” player. When my teammates die, I try to clean up after but sometimes I die also. So I find myself dying trying to help my team. But that’s usually when I’m playing with randoms that don’t call out if the enemy was one-shot or absolute. :stuck_out_tongue:

“mom, I’m busy!”

Here’s one
WHY DIDN’T YOU xxxxx THE OBJECTIVE!
Most likely because there entire team was there.

I love the “He’s on my X, why didn’t you get him!!!” My bad I don’t have time to scan the map for your X every time you die in 15 sec intervals. The game has been out for 6 months so you should be able to give me some sort of better call out. You even have a death cam to look at to tell me where he is going too.

This always happen to me. Or, I go to save a teammate in trouble and end up dying in the process because he/she bailed leaving me to defend myself

doesn’t mean your teammate is toxic. the kid could just be concentrating hard and is on a roll.

Wow. You’re like the Dali Llama of Halo. Respect sent via brainwaves.
