top 5 things I miss about H5 playing older Halos

Maybe it’s more about muscle memory, but here are some things I find myself doing and otherwise things I miss about Halo 5 when playing older Halo games online.

  • unlimited sprint - cover your eyes sprint-haters, but unlimited sprint made past Halo games (CE, 2, and 3) fell like walking in molasses. Halo Reach had class based sprint and Halo 4 only had unlimited sprint with the perk activated. Well, I had to add that perk to all my loadouts. :stuck_out_tongue: - clamber - double jumping and grenade jumping can only get you so far in a short amount of time in MP, I found myself instinctively trying to clamber onto things just out of reach to no avail. Not to mention Halo CE’s running jump mechanic made me miss 100% of my jumps. LOL. - enemy hit markers - I feel spoiled in Halo 5 with hit markers when using grenades, it’s pretty much telling you “hey, there’s an enemy and you hurt them”. Without it, I had to make educated guesses to see if I really hurt them or not. Not a deal breaker, but hit markers helped immensly. - thruster pack - boy do I miss thruster pack. Halo 4’s slow thruster pack just doesn’t do the trick. Although Halo Reach’s evade was pretty OP that is was removed in certain playlists. I kept spamming thrust pack in Halo 4 to get out of sticky situations, well, that didn’t end very well. - splinter grenades - Pulse grenades are such a downgrade and spiker grenades are near useless unless you stick someone. splinter grenades are my go-to grenades to keeping opposition at bay or dropping shields for a quick finish.honorable mentions: spartan slide, hydra launcher, plasma caster, flag juggling (not in Halo 4)

Spike grenades were awesome…

so you miss all the things that make the game easy. nobody likes a challenge these days

On the contrary I love a challenge and I’m always finding ways to make a game harder. Especially halo, thruster is just a noob Dodge.

Agreed. I love the new abilities and think they were implemented perfectly (maybe not Spartan charge, but that’s debatable). I hope they stay for halo 6.

that are all things i like better in previous halo titles ^^
unlimited sprint - i’m not a hardcore sprint hater, but i liked halo better without it (except in reach. i think it was implemented well there)

clamber - to me it took away the crouch jump. now you just can hold the jump button an it will do the trick

enemy hit markers - I hate hit markers everywhere. because it gives away if you hit or misses someone. i hated it when it was introduced in Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2 and, of course, halo 4. it was a thing i loved, that halo didn’t had it (i also hate the grenade warnings)

thruster pack - i’m kind of neutral on that, but i prefer games without it

splinter grenades - i don’t really know what you mean by that (h1 and h2 equipped up to 4 splinter and the others had splinters too), but i always liked the variation of grenades.

ok… thats just my opinion.
everybody is entitled to their own

Only thing I disagree on is hit markers.

I mean I obviously benefit from knowing for sure that I got a hit but Imo, being able to see where someone is by the hit markers when you log a grenade is kinda pathetic from a gameplay standpoint.

I just don’t like the hit markers. I wish that there was only a kill indicator, but no hit. I guess the medal would be indication enough, but…

Yes, yes, another thread that praises modern Halo, and puts down the golden oldies because they were “too slow”.

Unlimited Sprint has elongated maps, making good maps from the original series (Midship), into a comparatively worse map (Truth). It doesn’t play bad, but not as fun as Midship, because of all of the open spaces. Midship didn’t have as many open spaces.

Clamber was shoehorned in so that casuals that didn’t want to learn how to crouch jump could get around the map. It is only used in places that the developers made to be used with the ability. I still haven’t seen a place in this game where Clamber would actually improve the game, when jumping lets me retain control over my weapons while crossing gaps or climbing.

Hit markers in Halo should be on the level of Promethean Wall Hack vision. It gives you the ability to throw grenades in succession to get cheap kills, by getting a hit marker then throwing a second nade to finish off the enemy. 'Nuff said.

Thruster pack = even larger grenade blast radii. It’s also a stupid mechanic made to appease generic FPS fans (I know, HALO HAD THRUSTERZ FRIST!! except the implementation of thrusters is almost the same as in a specific 2014 video game.)

Don’t have an opinion on Splinter Grenades. Pulse grenades sucked, Splinters do not as much.

So you like easy mode? We can debate sprint for years so lets save that for another thread.

Clamber- It took all skill jumps out of the game, instead here is a simple animation that will make you reach that ledge, whereas in previous games you were punished for missing basic or skilled jumps. We use to have a map in H3 called Jump education, but weve removed such skill, oh well

Hit markers- I cant believe weve continued with this COD-like gimmick. There is no need in halo for hit markers, if you lob a nade 8 years away from you and you did damage now we know to rush in and attack. Knowing the damage you’ve dealt to an opponent at one time was a knowledge you accrued, either you or your team can provide information on how weak an opponent may be. Now the screen can tell you if your nade was a lucky one. Despise this one.

Thruster pack- neutral, if the games only new mechanic was TP it would have been a great evolution in the mold of halo. Small, not game breaking and provided to all players.

Splinter nades- meh, kinda Op up close but I dont care much. I always use frags over any other nade imo

But if it’s easier for your opponent that makes them more challenging to deal with.

Palmer’s voice.

So are you a hardcore Palmer fan? What did you think of Escalation? I like her a lot more now.

lol why do people keep saying clamber removed the skill of crouch jumps? It is literally one of the easiest things to do, there isn’t much skill required. And people are only mad about it because now everybody can get into their secret spots.

Who really cares about hit markers, I forgot those were even a thing, what’s so bad about knowing what you hit? Back in CE you didn’t need it because the nades would kill you from 100 yards away. If you’re hiding like a punk in a corner and don’t move after you get naded once, it’s your own fault if you stay and get hit by another.

The one I totally agree with is the hit markers. Been trying to finish the halo mcc campaigns on legendary, and boy is it a huge swing and a miss if I miss a grenade, rocket launcher/ fuel rod, and if i’m shooting from far away with the br.

I’ll give you the last two.

And flag juggling in Halo 4 out of your honorable mentions.

She’s just a sassy lady who’s missunderstood because of her not-so-great fan-friendly first impression in Halo 4.

I think she’s great!
I’d love it if she and Halsey work out their differences and become kinda buddies.

Hit markers are very useful to use in your favor due to the limited radar.

I like everything added into Halo 5 EXCEPT the hit markers. Yeah it’s cool knowing when someone is hiding when it chuck a random nade and hit them but, all too often that -Yoink- happens to me and the enemy would’ve never known I was hiding or trying to sneak around had they not been told they hit me.
