Too much Bloom for Halo 4 PC

So far really happy with the performance of this flight. Major issue is there is way too much bloom. Hope this can be addressed. (link to screenshots)
Or whatever the correct term is for the lightening, its just so bright so its really off putting

The game has always been like that so I think a lot of people will go bonkers if it’s changed.

We know what happened when gearbox messed with Halo 1

Those are lens flares. They should have never put them in the game to begin with. We need an option to turn them off. It is so messed up when games that have this junk don’t have an option to turn it off.

This is a completely different scenario. Gearbox broke scenery among other things making the game look worse. For Halo 4 343 industries intentially put something, artificial lens flares, in to make the game look worse, break immersion, make it frustratingly difficult to play, and hide the beautiful scenery. Why do so many developers and movie makers keep doing this nonsense?

Ah lens flares, while they do look unnecessary consider that it could be worse. They could have been Abrams-styled lens flares. Get a load of those, THEN you will know frustration.

Lens flares are a real thing, perhaps? Its a shame you dont have control over how LIGHT ITSELF works but I mean we cant all be omnipotent I suppose. Shame, I was hoping to remove the Reach Magnum from existence.

someone will probably release a reshade or something soon, likely a bit after it officially launches. But yeah, it’s just always been like that.

Had this same issue in Halo3 ODST. Also have the same issue in Halo 4 as well. I don’t know why many are saying it is lens flares…it’s different. This is indeed a Bloom effect. The Bloom effect’s what causes the light to blur and surround the light source / light reflection with a glow shade. Lens flare effect, just like Bloom, imitates a camera’s light sensitivity, but since light scatters inside a lens from an angle, it creates (more or less) a flare instead of a “glow” or a “blur”.
I think i went off the topic here, but yes there should be an option to turn this off. For many it’s a great addition…but ruins the gameplay when in much brighter areas.

-Just some thoughts…

You don’t have to be rude. Lens flares are a real phenomenon, but not these full screen lens flares they put in games and movies, which one can eaily see to be the case by looking around. Or jee probably the best example is the sun, if you look at the sun in Halo 4, lens flares, if you look at the sun for real, no lens flares. The Master Chief is wearing a helmet looking through it’s visor, that is in effect only one lens which would be of high quality and have mechanisms to maintain clear vision. Not to mention the blinders on the helmet. There is alot of engineering put into camera lenses to prevent lens flare, which gets progressively more difficult as you add more lenses into the whole camera lens. This is why camera lenses have such huge price ranges. Hoods, much like the blinders on the spartan helmet, are also put on the front of camera lenses to prevent lens flare. Also note that many of the lens flares you seen in movies have been digitally added, they are totally artificial.

And it’s a video game, 343 industries has total control over it’s behavior, And for the record lighting in these games is not physically accurate, not even close.

Halo 3 ODST, at least in the flgiht, did not have these extreme fullscreen lens flares. Both games do have bloom, which they should. I didn’t find bloom to be terribly excessive in ODST but it could be toned down in some areas. It is a bit tricky to get bloom to look right, or rather some what right in this case. Halo 4 however as can be seen in the two screen shots above does have greatly excessive bloom, especially on those blue floor lights pictured. Bloom is a subtle effect if even visible until you have a view with great contrast between light and dark.

Lens flares are not do to a cameras light sensitivty, they are do to light bouncing around in the lens and light entering the lens at a sharpe angle that is outside the view.

Both screenshots show overly intense bloom and strong artificial fullscreen lens flares. Both should have off switches, but the bloom either needs to be toned way down or needs to be configurable. Personally I want the bloom on as it is natural, but it is way to strong.

Should be an option for it to be turned down. Its quite blinding when trying to fight and you cant see anything cause the lightening is so distracting.

If you have an nvidia card I found out that the details game filter removes a lot of the bloom or at least makes it more bearable.
