I like the maps so far in Halo 5, but I do think they are a bit too open. In previous games there was always those couple areas where you were given some breathing room that was easy to control or people just wouldn’t go there often making it a good place to recharge shields etc. These qualities are in the Breakout maps, but the normal maps seem to be devoid of it. On Truth and Regret for example I feel as thought there is literally no place that is safe. Top mid is a death trap in both unless your entire team is backing you up and controlling it. The towers can be safe on Truth, but on Regret they are just an extension of mid and offer no protection in the form of cover.
The thing that I’m thinking of is like the seawall room near the beachhead on Zanzibar or the furthest part of the tower on Ascension. They were just little places that offered no tactical edge, but they were sufficiently covered from enemies and they allowed you a moment to think your next move through and if an enemy was there you couldn’t camp there because there’s no cover.
Maybe it’s the speed of the game or maybe its just the maps, but I feel like every point on the map except maybe the tower on Eden paints a big target on you that enemies can snipe you from at any angle at any time.
