I understand that controller players need AA in order to compete with M&KB especially in a game like this where you can land wild flick shots and high accuracy is a must. That being said the AA should not function as a soft aim bot, across every skill level a player using a controller will have a higher regular and headshot accuracy than a M&KB user. I’m not asking for AA to be removed but just toned down slightly to where it actually matches the accuracy difference between M&KB rather than surpassing it. when there’s this much of a difference made by something like AA it discourages a lot of players from actually wanting to improve and get better at the game since it feels like an unfair advantage is waged against them. I hope this gets addressed soon because I love this game to death but this is probably one of biggest issues with the core gameplay as of right now.
It sure would be nice if there was a crossplay & input toggle for social games, console players feel the same about K&B.
This is being discussed widely on a number of different threads. Its been an ongoing issue with Halo on PC since the launch of Reach.
That being said, I think it would be wrong to tinker with how controllers play. The AA has already been toned down significantly when compared with previous entries. The only solution that will please both sides is an option for input based matchmaking for all modes.
343 doesn’t want to split the playerbase. Theyve tried really hard to find a solution that will please everyone without resorting to strict IBMM, but as I see it, there’s no way to truly balance the inputs. An IBMM option may be the only option that will keep players happy, and player counts healthy.
You’ve pretty much summed up what I was about to say.
Whether controller players think m&k has an advantage over them or vise versa, input based matchmaking is good for keeping the people around who want the more selective experiences and not having to worry about being paired with someone who they think has an advantage over them. If MCC was able to have it and still have a relatively decent search times I can’t see why Infinite would have a problem. So far for the population charts that I’ve seen the population could support the toggle, and if for whatever reason someone is having a really hard time finding games then they can toggle crossplay back on if they so wish.
I think the average player may not really care about who they play with in social but it’s an option that I think seriously needs to be there, as there really is no way to truly balance both controller and m&k perfectly with each other and this I believe is the closest solution that we’d be able to get.
Edit: Sorry for multiple posts, my computer bugged out.
Unfortunately, MCC didn’t have IBMM to much success. The option functioned as intended, but it was implemented so late into the games life span that by then, the MKB players largely moved on. Its been very difficult to find an MKB game in MCC since the first month the update dropped, which is why its so important they solve this issue quickly. PC players are fickle, if you don’t serve them, and quickly, they’re gone.
Eh, I found m&k felt bad, so I just went controller for MCC. M&k feels better on Infinite, but I think controller is still better.
There’s actually a big problem with the controller AA, it is pretty much nonexistent in Infinite. This is mostly because the red reticle is so short now but it’s probably the 3rd most complained thing about Infinite behind the whole customisation paywall and xp gain. But yeah, the aiming on controller is really odd, and this is with 20 years of Halo experience, it just feels really different to the old games, and that’s on pc and console.
Controller aim assist is just totally OP.

Controller players exposed x)
The red reticule was removed on PC to stop basic trigger bots being created (when reticule goes red TB shoots)
However even though there is no RR on pc if you are using a controller the AA is still there.
A lot of people sees this topic wrong imho.
Neither of the both input devices should be tweaked. We just need the option to deactivate crossplay and to choose the input devices also for social. (like in MCC)
It will never be possible to balance this two different input devices, no matter how strong or low AA on controller is, at least one of two playerbases will be unhappy and that is not how it should be.
343i should implement the option ASAP.
Am I missing something here or are PC players unaware that they get the same bullet magnetism aim assist as controller players? Controller’s only benefit is reticle stickyness while moving, but M&K’s advantage of super fast turning seems to me a much greater benefit.
I’d like to point out that the majority (by far) of higher tier players have been using the controller for 20 years wheres Halo has only just got back onto PC in full swing.
You are essentially comparing people who have been playing this series with 1 input for 2 decades to people who are just now playing the series on a new input…
That’s why those stats don’t really show you what’s happening. I’ve seen K&M cross map with the damn Sidekick and not miss a single shot.
