Tom Salta > Marty O'donnell

So I never played Halo Spartan Assault and I never even knew it had it’s own soundtrack that was actually really really good.

Check this out.

That at sounds more like Halo than any game since Halo 3 in 2007. This guy and Kazuma should be making the soundtrack.

Marty is great and all but I prefer more exciting/ambient tracks over just orchestra stuff nowadays.

I’m curious about the Spartan Strike Ost’s too, but we have to wait for it.

Seems like Salta is doing the OST for that game too. I can’t wait. His music is awesome, much better than Halo 4’s soundtrack.

I prefer more the Halo 4 music, than Spartan Assualt, but everyone of us has another favourite. The point is we’re good if/until we get our Halo feel.

I love Salta’s work, have since Spartan Assault first came out, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s superior to O’Donnell. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I think it’s more that Salta understands the Halo sound better than Kazuma Jinnouchi. Every track in Spartan Assault- and so far as I know Spartan Strike- sounds like it fits Halo perfectly.

I listened SA Ost moth’s ago, I don’t remember for them, but I think I will listen it again, to choose who’s understand better the Halo sound.
But Kazuma with “117” soundtrack, I think it’s very Halo.

Tom Salta = Marty O’

Not out of personal preference, no. The reason is because they always do their job well. Actually, moreso in Salta’s case… He’s worked on far more projects than Marty, and it takes a very competent composer, to have the craft and the know-how to advertise his own style, while still altering it and molding it in order to emulate the style of the series it accompanies. It really doesn’t sound like Marty’s music, but it does sound like ‘Halo’ music, does it not?

The ability to adapt like that, and to create what is in essence ‘new’ music whilst providing a familiar flavor to the series, is a very desirable trait and this is true of any professional. It should be the industry standard. Employers look for that, and 343 should look for that. I can say without a doubt that this is something Salta has accomplished.

The inability as a composer, to adapt and assume the position well, would be an indicator that you are not fit for the job  It’s not called ‘taking risks’ or ‘bringing something fresh and exciting.’ Unless they were specifically asked to do so, that is the result of refusing to do the job correctly…

If you do not fancy Salta, that is fine as well. I’m just saying that he does his job well.

I… What… Just… Go listen to the Halo 2 soundtrack again, mate.

SA did feel more like proper Halo music, shame H5 beta music wasn’t as interesting but H5 really could do with some classic style music.

Please don’t judge based on beta music.

I did like the beta menu music. It just sounded more like a continuation of Halo 4 and less like the previous Halo games.

I guess that’s okay but still…I miss my bongos being used instead of dubsteppy sounds.

I never heard the SA OST before.

I would say Salta = Marty. Better than the H4 OST definitely. Felt like a mix between Reach and H3 which is a pretty good direction.
