Tom Salta for Halo Infinite Soundtrack

You guys think 343i should hire Tom Salta for the Halo Infinite Soundtrack ? After listening to his tracks from Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike, I believe he’ll be the perfect choice for the Soundtrack in my opinion.

I listen to the soundtracks of all Halos a lot. And I actually like Kuzuma and Neil (along with Paul) have been doing with 4 and 5. Halo 4 is my second favorite behind Halo 2 Vol. 1. I haven’t heard the soundtracks for Spartan Assault and Strike because I don’t really consider them full Halo games. But if they keep doing what they have been with the modern soundtracks I am not worried about Infinite.

I despise what Davidge did to Halo 4 to the extent that I can’t call it *Halo-*music. Although it is very, very nice music by itself, not racking down on Davidge’s talent here, it was a huge, stinky dump on what the Elder had established.
Listening to some stuff from Salta, he knows how to do the Halo-feel, but I feel he sort of lacks a proper goal to his music. I’m sure if he got his hands on something that isn’t a spin-off title, he’d do an excellent job.
The optimal setting would be the return of Marty, but I doubt that.

Kazuma is already pretty damn good if you ask me, so I see no need

I feel like Kazuma has the hang of making a good Halo sounding soundtrack. He’s not Marty but Halo 5 did have a pretty darn good soundtrack and I fail to see why he would need replaced.

I think there is something that Tom Salta taps into that makes his music sound a lot like Marty.

A lot of it is simple themes. Not overly bombastic or epic in scope. But ones that set a pace for progression.

See
Intimate - Halo Spartan Assault
Simple Mystery - Halo Spartan Assault
Prelude - Halo Spartan Assualt

He can do those quieter moments that I haven’t heard really tackled well since Marty.

See
A walk in the woods - Halo CE
Purchance to Dream - Halo CE
Ghosts of Reach - Halo 2
Brutes - Halo 3, specifically 0:52 onwards

Double post

Nah Kazuma did a perfect job on Guardians I want him to return for the soundtrack. Salta can help out.

Nothing Salta did for Halo ever stuck with me. It never pumped me up during missions. It never increased the intensity of a moment. It never made me feel emotional on any spectrum. Halo 4 and 5 may not feel much like traditional Halo music, but they did what they needed to do. Green and Blue added to my sorrow during Cortana’s “death” scene on the Mantle’s Approach, 117 influenced a lot of the ‘epic’ Halo 4 moments, Nemesis was an amazing antagonist piece for Jul ‘Mdama and the Didact, and even Osiris’ theme is quite memorable. Halo 4 and Halo 5 music, whilst not my favourite, is still far more influential on our mood and far more fitting for the gameplay than anything Tom Salta has done for Halo. (Remastering the original Halo and Halo 2 soundtracks doesn’t count as its not his own work, and personally, I prefer the originals anyway.)

If I were part of 343i, I’d fight for Marty O’Donnell to return, even whilst he works on his own projects. They wouldn’t have to $acrifice much, and it would make an enormously positive difference to the game.

I wouldn’t mind Marty coming back, if that were even a possibility.

They need Marty the Elder.

I never played those games so I don’t know any of Tom’s work, I should check him out.

Marty is doing his own thing with Highwire Games, so I doubt he will be coming back to compose Halo. Salta isn’t half bad but I think Kazuma and Neil have him beat by a fair bit. Now if we were talking about Stephen Rippy my answer would be very different. Halo Wars 1 has a GODLIKE soundtrack and is probably my most replayed series soundtrack alongside Halo 2 and Halo 3: ODST.

Man, I forgot all about Stephan Rippy. He did a really good track on Halo Wars 1 that I still enjoy today.
