Tom Lasky vs Michael Sullivan

I loved how Sully from Hunt the Truth was friends and classmates with Tom Lasky back at the Corbulo Academy. Obviously Chief director of communications at ONI is one sketchy job, while being the Captain of UNSC Infinity is as noble and cool as it gets.

Do you think they should make use of their relationship? Some situation where there interests are opposed? I feel that there is a lot of potential there, and both characters are well enough known that they could write a story with little preamble.

The title is a little deceptive. I thought you might be suggesting a face-off between them. “In the Red Corner…”

What do you mean?
My intent came off a little soft, huh. I think that it would be great for them to become enemies despite their friendship, and eventually I mean REAL enemies. It’s totally plausible imo that the UNSC will fracture in the near future.

I have a feeling Sully will crack a few jokes, Lasky gives that little grin, then thinks of a comeback. Sully will bring up how wimpy Lasky was at Corbulo, and everyone on the bridge of Infinity will laugh. The reason they meet is likely Lasky asking Sully what ONI knows about how to fight the created and what’s going on elsewhere. Earth is probably under invasion by The Created.

I think if they were to do this, it would likely be in a book or comic, rather than a game cutscene. It would just fit better for plot and pacing unless they have their conversation cut right to the chase like Spartan Ops and Lasky getting orders to kill Halsey.

I think it would be an interesting avenue to take, if 343i ever gained the huevos to do a “vs ONI” storyline. There is plenty of intrigue in the morally grey actions of ONI, but we keep getting these galactic terror events that make everyone seem to forget about that time ONI was the bad guy.

I agree, tension would best be built in a book but could be catalyzed in a game.

I think 343 has played more with ONI then Bungie has. In the Bungie years, ONI was a necessary (but not exactly) evil filled with mystery. With 343, ONI has the added skill of being masters of manipulation and espionage.

They have been planting seeds for a while and I think all the ground work has been layed for a real conflict to occur. 6 years ago it would seem to come out of left field, but now after kilo 5, Hunt the Truth, etc the time is ripe, and we have 2 familiar characters to be our windows into each side of the conflict.

One problem though, am I the only one who thinks the Devs may be hesitant to design campaigns that have humans as targets? Silly I know, but you think we would have at least seen a glimpse of human Wars in Halo Reach.

For all 343i’s teasing of ONI, we have yet to have a game that focuses on them (Halo 3 ODST heavily featured ONI, but not as the antagonist). Maybe the devs are averse to have players fight a human enemy, whether for rating purposes or making it potentially too close to competing FPS titles. Personally, I think a spin-off game revolving around ONI, where you are either an ONI agent or fighting against ONI, would be an interesting work, and wouldn’t necessarily need to be an FPS. But maybe 343i is content with playing it safe and sticking to established formulas; which would be a shame.
