Toggle Crouch

So I just found out that the only way to make the high jumps is to have the option toggle crouch off.

I am very upset because I have used toggle crouch all my life and this changes my gameplay. Not only do I have to have toggle crouch off, but I also have to change my controller buttons to a different layout because it makes things difficult to keep on crouching while moving with my current controller settings.

WHAT GIVES!?

How long have you been playing Halo? The crouch jump has been around for quite a while, unfortunate that you haven’t know about it. It’s very useful to me, hope your adjustment is easy. I remember having to adjust like you when I first started playing Halo, wasn’t too difficult.

Out of curiosity, what button layout do you use?

I’ve been playing Halo since 3. If you were paying attention, I wasn’t talking about the crouch jump. I know how to crouch jump and I don’t have a problem doing the crouch jump at all. My problem is doing the jump+stabilize+crouch combo onto high places like from plaza onto pipes or from tram onto tram sneaky (glass).

My other problem was simply crouch walking.

By the way, thanks, but hopefully this issue gets fixed that way I won’t have to change a thing.

I feel your pain doing so the slide boost didn’t work until I changed it and seeing as I play on halo 4 controller settibrgs it’s now screwed me though maybe the proving grounds playlist will help as not having to crouch for the motion tracker ! Time to reset and finally learn bumper jumper I guess !

I totally agree. I hate having to change settings for every new game. Having a choice to use what buttons, levers, sticks, paddles or knobs we want to use is completely doable but this is the easy way out.

No reason not to turn off toggle-crouch… the benefits far outweigh the conveniences. Plus, being a long-time Halo player, I’ve done it since the very beginning… like crouch jumping… it’s a habit, like I probably literally don’t know that I’m doing it at this point. It’s essential for advanced Stabilize Jumps as well…

I use toggle crouch all the time and can still make all those jumps.

Really? How?

Honestly, I would make the effort to move away from Toggle crouch. Whatever benefit it brings, (merely making sneaking a tad more convenient), is easily outweighed by the ability to slideboost, and maintain better agility and smoothness when performing jumps. It’s a crutch I’ve never regretted detaching myself from, and if I need it for customs ,(like ghostbusters), there isn’t anything holding me back from switching.

There are ways around all of these problems, except for the combo I’m talking about, at least for me…

Just click your crouch control repeatedly. I use toggle crouch and I can make a lot of the stabilizer trick jumps.

That’s what I do.

There is no issue to be fixed. Just take the time to learn a new way of playing. Almost everyone has had to, in one way or another, when it comes to Halo 5.

And, just throwing it out there, but you never specifies anything about which Halo you started with, and what aspect of toggle crouch you needed to change. No need to get all haughty about a simple question. Next time don’t be so vague in your OP.

I mean, does it really matter since which Halo I’ve been playing?

No, but your OP made it sound like this was a new thing for you so that is probably why that first guy asked.

I have known about the jumps for quite some time. I just never really bothered to put much effort in, until today. I was doing some experimenting and just found this out. People here say you can, but I think I am being trolled…

To my knowledge and from my experience about the only thing you can’t do with TC on is to Run-Boost-Slide-Jump-Stabilize… aka bum or b-jumping. Everything else worked fine for me. I switched it off early on because of the problems pulling that off but I could do everything else I tried prior.

fwiw… i’m taking the word of others on this bc once I could nail the b-jump without it I stopped trying with it on. However, i’m not convinced it is impossible with it on… just much much easier. With TC on you would need to release the crouch with a subsequent click… and with near perfect timing…which may not be possible in all applications because you would either a.) cheat the height boost by doing it too early in proximity to the object being clambered or b.) hold it too long and f up the clamber (in particluar with hold to clamber off)

However, I have no problem with it being this way even if it is impossible since everything is essentially a compromise… in this case one of convenience for ability. Anyway, try it out. It only takes a week +/- a couple days to get muscle memory into shape. Peace.

PS… if you haven’t already… check out Novacast and Lil Black Bubba on youtube… search Halo 5 jumps. LBB is the absolute best i’ve seen at creating super cool and useful jumps that are applicable on virtually every map.

I just hold joystick down and move forward to crouch walk.

I just spam the crouch button and it works fine.
