In today’s surprise announcement of Halo: Heartbreaker, the trailer gives us a peek into the life of a Spartan-in-training who has waited for the long-foretold arrival of “The Infinite”. We are shown a scene where this Spartan-in-training “GAMR-2020” is looking happily at his work calendar as he prepared to request his saved-up PTO days for the weekend when he receives his Series X Mjolnir suit. He smiles as he thinks of (what felt like) the eternity endured leading up to what everyone is saying will be the imminent arrival.
Then, his comm link flashes. His smile disappears, replaced by a furrowed brow. He blinks, seemingly unable to process the incoming communication at first. Then, his eyes begin to widen in comprehension. A small but chilling whisper, “no…” And the camera pans down to his comm link, which displays simply “2021”.
The trailer ends, but the world is changed.
