Today’s Update Was All Hype and No Payoff

So it’s a small patch which fixes some bugs. Nice, except considering the state of the game it’s like putting a bandaid on a pair of pulverized broken and mutilated legs.

They explained ahead of time it would only be SOME attachments, and that the selection of helmets would be limited. This wasn’t unexpected. It’s a work in progress.

With drop pod updates I think we should always expect minor adjustments to game meta and minor improvements to QoL and PVP experience. This should be acceptable if the drop pods occur 6 times a year or more (~2 month dev cycles). Major game changes will occur less often, though we should probably expect some major game changes to absorb a drop pod cycle.

I reinstalled the game to check it out, looks like my Spartan is still going to be looking exactly the same. Uninstalled it again.

I’ll keep my storage space until Forge creators bring tons of new content 343 couldn’t dream of making with even a $343,000,000,000 budget and a UNSC sized corporation of employees working for them. 343 is really going to keep milking the bare minimum crud off the underside of the barrel, because this is below bottom of the barrel.

They’re going to make us do everything for them for the next nine years. They gave us the tools to support the game ourselves, because the life support drip feed is ending.

Have you seen the store lately? It’s so corrupted this week that I couldn’t even see the icons. I swear every week this game gets worse. Visors and 3 very limited paid attachments are not going to make up for our 9 months of suffering

I’m just tired of it. I thought maybe if I skip season 2 and come back just before season 3, it’ll be nicer and fixed some, but no, it’s still almost exactly the same

Kinda like they did with Halo Online!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

I haven’t played in a long while, so thought I’d drop in to see what’s new.

I dread to think what size update is waiting for me when I next boot up the game

You’re seeing a lot of echo chamber things about 343 not doing anything, because that entire list is just 343 fixing their own mistakes, not adding anything new to the game. If you break 100 things and fix 100 things, and it takes you nine months to fix those 100 things that you broke, nothing has actually been added or improved. It just works as it should have in the first place, and took forever to get fixed. Now you’re just at 0 instead of in the negatives.

Usually people like to say 343 does two steps forward one step back, except 343 ran the marathon backwards for an hour before it even started and is just now finally starting to catch up with the rest of the race

To me, considering how dire Infinite is right now and how they continue to be super aggressive with MTX, don’t try to gussy it up with a special name ‘Drop Pod Update’ just quietly, humbly put out small patches - much more regularly. I feel like going round there with a bull whip lol. Seriously, what the hell is taking so long? Soooo sloooow!

I agree bud! It’s been 9 mos. and the Custom Game Area is still “BROKEN”

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

From what I can see there was relatively little hype.

It’s been clear from day dot what the role / expectations of the drop pods are.

The only real disappointment is that they haven’t been consistent in the timing. Hopefully they are now a monthly feature.

And the big ticket thing is set up for two weeks - doubles (ranked and social).

So. Really today’s update was under hyped. There was more than I was expecting. And the payoff is pretty good so far.

I imagine the really big changes will be more “seasonal”. Fingers crossed…

Interestingly, they seem to have removed the secondary visors that changed color depending on your skin, like Cambion’s mask and Akis’ monocle.

Got bad news buddy. Season 2 is only half way done. You did yourself in.

Ok

It’s definitely not the “Last Halo” people have been saying that since Halo 4. However I DO hope it’s the last Halo “live service” battlepass garabge. Seriously if Microsoft just lets 343 make another game like Reach, no microtransactions, no premature announcements, no overpromising on features, just a good old fashioned modernized Halo title, 343 can gain a LOT of credibility and goodwill back. But they won’t do that, because as we’ve seen both Microsoft and companies under them are Hellbent on making poor decisions and ignoring community backlash, for exhibits A AND B I present: 343 Industries and Mojang.

Yeah, I forgot 343 doesn’t understand that Seasons are supposed to only be 3 months long. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. 343 has 6 month seasons. Welp, I’ll check back for Season 3’s 6 month season.

Oh man I don’t think we can accept another 6 month window. That is not acceptable pace.

THIS six month window is the one they get on good faith to refill their staffing and set a blitz pace. The first three month season will be tough for all involved, but kinks will iron out into following quarterly releases.

Just figure out how Bungie do it with D2 year 2 onwards and get it done

It bothers me quite a bit it was only premium stuff. I don’t know why it’s like that.

Makes sense. It follows the company’s track record of not respecting the people that play their game. If they did, the game wouldn’t feel like a beta and most if not all of this would have already been in the game. Props for adding base features nine months later though I guess?

They want you to buy the premium stuff, thats why. Its not because 343 is a nice company who actually give a damn about the players or fans.

Exactly, it’s the MCC all over again, i just hope they fix Infinite quicker than they did the MCC.

i also hope they stick to the roadmap and get co-op splitscreen and forge out the door on time. so players can finally fully enjoy the campaign with friends and family and that players can start making some amazing maps for custom games.

i just noticed speed lines are fixed on pc again but they haven’t updated the known issues list. someone is not doing their job quick enough!

i was hoping offline play (multiplayer) would be fixed in this update but nope, still broken. i’ve seen several players on steam complain that they can’t play offline at the moment and i pointed them all to the known issues list.
