Today’s Update Was All Hype and No Payoff

Universal visors was already a meek offering to begin with but universal Mk VII attachments was something much better. Knowing 343 I shouldn’t have expected such, but here we are with our puss poor update.

The “universal attachments” only lets you use the upper armor piece of the Enigma and Soldier attachments on PAID helmets! None of the free helmets got any attachment options and even Aviator and Anubis got shafted as well, despite being from the paid pass and a bundle respectively. None of the various side attachments got expanded usage, only UA forehead slabs.

EDIT: Can’t forget to mention that if you spent $20 to get both the War Master set and Firefall helmet, you can now put the rebreather on your FauxDST.

Thats actually really disappointing since that is one of the worst helmet attachments. Why would someone who paid $15 for a helmet use that cheap free attachment instead of the exclusive one that came with the $15 helmet. I was hoping to be able to put the zvezda attachment on another helmet or something at least worthwhile

I think my Halo Infinite broke down.
It won’t go online no matter how many times I restart the game.

HALO used to have credibility in the gaming world now it’s a laughing stock

If you’re on Xbox, go into All Games->Manage->Updates and see if you need to force the Infinite update.

A hard reset on XB usually does the trick when trying to trigger updates and launch access too

Its really sad how little actual attachments were utilized. Hyped it for nothing

I mean, it does what it says on the tin. Whether you like the Mark VII helmet attachments is a different story altogether. With that being said, there’s definitely a lot more 343 needs to do, and I suppose it falls upon us to given them basic and explicit instruction on how to make a good game. Here’s some of my own thoughts on stuff related to this drop pod update on what I want.

  1. All Helmet attachments to be used on All Armor Cores
  2. All Coatings to be available for All Cores.
  3. Multiple Helmet Attachments [I.E. CBRN & HUL/CNM] to be used at the same time.
  4. All Leg Utility, Arm, and Knee pieces available for all cores.

This is just a rough outline on the timeline for improved cross-core customization that I would envision. I imagine certain pieces like shoulder/chest could run into some clipping issues. As for challenges, here’s what I’m thinking.

  1. Real-Time Tracking for Challenges
  2. Fourth Slot challenges to be unlocked by default for Free and Premium Battlepass users.
  3. All challenges to have progress earned at the same time (I.E. like in MCC)

And then there’s the mention of Server Region Selection. I know that they only mentioned it in so far as they’re laying the ground work in this drop. But the Full Implementation of Server Region Selection, as well as a fully functional Custom Games Browser are necessary to release alongside Forge.

offline mode is still broken, just tested. only campaign works offline on pc.

This has to be the most lack luster update of all time… I mean nobody I mean nobody cares about cross-core being a “major” dev ticket… It “nice to have” but not right now… why…

Fix bugs…
Fix weapon balancing.
Fix weapon placements.
Fix the horrible net-code******* HIGH TICKET ITEM!!
Fix ranked…
Weapon tuning…

rather small changelog…hope next update has more fixes because the known issues list is huge.

please don’t make drip feeding fixes a thing.

I think it was stated there would be some crossover, not all.

Paid or free, I don’t think that label was specified. Once again, please just take what’s said at face value rather than expect the best?

Can we stop rage farming for the sake of rage farming?

That’s called divine intervention son. Now you don’t have to play this mess.

On one hand, I appreciate being able to apply Vandal, Sigil and Noble visors to any helmet I want.

On the other hand, two whole attachments, and one more being the rebreather for the Aviator for the Firefall… Disappointing. I understand the update just isn’t for cosmetics, but a lot of the changes described in the notes feel like they should have been like this from the start… Reducing global damage from all weapon types to vehicles should make them a little more viable now. I hope. It was a problem in BTB.

Plasma Pistol correctly depleting all shields including overshields is important too… Consistent headshots with Stalker and Sidekick also.

Its just… I dunno. I want to be excited, but all of this is so basic. As for the cosmetics, I feel like there should be a system of some kind. in place to better facilitate production. Doing it all by hand, allegedly, seems inefficient

I don’t want to knock 343 too much, especially on the dev sides of things, when I’m almost sure it’s managments fault for being poor directors.

Until we can address bigger issues like desync, and fix the spaghetti code at the foundation, my overall reception is tepid. A mild 5 outta 10 if I had to rate it, where 5 is “decent” at best…

It’s all part of the 10 year plan :facepunch:

Considering the main element here was more focused on the Visors on top of other balance changes, we ended up getting exactly as advertised. The whole helmet attachment thing was a minor entry in the grand scheme of things.

Don’t know why they couldn’t use the Trailblazer attachment for the Rampart Helmet, it would’ve mirrored the Halo Reach EOD Perfectly

I was also supremely disappointed to find out the free helmets were given zero added customization

We just wait until Halo Infinite becomes abandonware and people will revive it.

I’m seeing a lot of ignorant echo chamber complaints in here about “not much being done” so here are the details of the drop pod from:

[Google Halo Waypoint Support Drop Pod August](https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/8273360479380-Halo-Infinite-Drop-Pod-August-9-2022)

RESOLVED ISSUES

The following changes were made in the August 9, 2022 Drop Pod.

MULTIPLAYER

  • The volume of a nearby player’s shield recharging has been lowered, especially when the recharging player is out of the line of sight.
  • Choppers will no longer continue boosting after being disabled by a Dynamo Grenade’s EMP effect.
  • The M41 SPNKR’s damage radius has been improved and now more consistently damages enemies.
  • A fully charged shot from the Plasma Pistol will now correctly deplete all Shields, including active Overshields.
  • Mark Assists and medals related to the Mark system will now appear correctly when the Superintendent AI is equipped.
  • Players can no longer mark enemies who are obscured behind waist high cover.
  • Headshots more consistently register on enemies without shields when using precision weapons such as the Mk50 Sidekick or the Stalker Rifle.
  • In Custom Games, King of the Hill now goes to Overtime when both teams have the same score as time runs out.
  • In Free-For-All King of the Hill matches, the mini scoreboard near the bottom of the screen no longer shows unused meters and the full scoreboard shows the following stats:
    • Points
    • Score
    • Kills
    • Deaths
  • In Custom Games, Attrition rounds now consistently end when a team is fully eliminated.
  • While spectating a player in Observer Mode on PC, player weapons will no longer shake when the camera moves up or down.
  • Resolved an issue where dropped Equipment could not be picked up near the lower light bridge on Catalyst.
  • Observers will no longer be counted as a member of the enemy team in Attrition Custom Games.
  • The outline of the Danger Zone’s final circle will no longer appear early in Last Spartan Standing Custom Games.
  • Dropped weapons will no longer accumulate during Tactical Slayer matches.

MENUS

  • The fourth Challenge slot will now always be enabled when a Premium Battle Pass is equipped.
  • Visor colors will now appear correctly when using the following helmet and attachment combinations:
    • Cambion helmet with the UA/Februus attachment
    • AKIS II-GRD helmet with the TAS/Lantifrid attachment
  • Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing now have unique Game Mode icons in various menus.
  • In the Ranked Arena playlist menu, changing the Ranked Queue type now correctly updates the Estimated Wait tooltip.
  • Error messages now consistently appear in matchmaking playlist menus.

BALANCE CHANGES

GRAPPLESHOT

To maintain multiplayer balance, players will no longer be able to exit a vehicle to cancel an enemy’s Grapplejack.

LIGHT AND MEDIUM VEHICLES

Non-tank vehicles, such as the Ghost or Warthog, are now more resistant to small arms fire. All of these changes apply to Multiplayer and a few apply to Campaign as well. See the Developer Notes for a full breakdown of the changes in each mode.

WARTHOG

The Warthog can now be knocked around more easily by players using weapons such as the M41 SPNKR or the Repulsor Equipment.

KNOWN ISSUES

With this update, the team has added one new issue to our Known Issues list. Visit the Known Issues & Workarounds section for more information.

  • In Last Spartan Standing Custom Games, bots do not level up after gaining enough score to improve their loadout.
  • The Xbox app or Microsoft Store app version of Halo Infinite may download extra data upon launching the game.

There are even more details in the update notes themselves linked above. You can expand the developer comments in a few of the topics I copied here.
