Do you really think: THIS
Looks better than: THIS?
And Urban isn’t even filled with horrible Prometheans in that picture.
I know this is all subjective, but I would really (seriously) like to know why people prefer the cartoony approach to Halo…

You do know you can make links yourself, right?
Edit: That’s better.
Can’t we just let people like what they want to? Do we always have to but in and tell them that they’re wrong for liking it? I don’t mean to be rude but i honestly don’t care what the game looks like. Weather it be art style or graphics, it’s the least of my concerns. Gameplay is ALWAYS much more important than how it looks. You can have the most visually stunning game in the world, but if it doesn’t play good or is just downright bad, then thats a total flop to me.
Where did I leave that gif of the Dude…

I’m not telling anybody they should like the classic versions. I’m genuinely asking who prefers the new art style so I can understand why. And visuals are very important to the gameplay, it provides immersion. Shooting orange bionicles don’t really immerse me in a ‘Forerunner’ setting and therefore degrading my gameplay experience.

He didn’t say they weren’t allowed to like it, he just doesn’t see why they do like it.
Okay, so you don’t care what a game looks like. Why can’t people care about the way a game looks? Do people always have to butt in and tell them they’re wrong for having an opinion on artwork, that their opinion on art design isn’t important or is stupid to bring up at all since gameplay is “more important”?
Most people would agree that gameplay is more important than looks. That pretty much goes without saying. But why not both? H2A looks wonderful, plays wonderful. Past Halo games looked pretty good for their time, they play wonderful.
What’s with the huge extremes? If a game has great gameplay it has to be a plastic mess like Halo 5? Having graphics at least as good as H2A would somehow have worked against Halo 5’s gameplay mechanics? Of course not. So there’s no reason people shouldn’t voice concerns when the art design for a game franchise they enjoy is going (in their opinion) downhill. Thus the OP’s question… does anyone think this new plastic toy art direction is good, and why?

I do apologise if i was a tad too aggressive. My own opinion and perception on games is gameplay, i respect your opinion and your own perception on games, but i just think without a proper story or good multiplayer, it just won’t do well. Even games that didn’t have the best graphics or art style like Saints Row 2 for instance, it looked super cartoonish and it was such a good game.

No need to apologize, you are totally right. It’s just that Halo has seen a MASSIVE change in art style while Saints Row generally staid the same (until SR4).

Yeah that is true, i do see both sides to this. I will admit the only thing i dislike about the art style is the armour, some do look clunky and plastic. That’s just another issue in general lol all that armour and how hideous some are haha
The Anniversaries of Halo are somewhat cartoonish and I really don’t mind that. But I think Halo 5’s art style is alright and I also enjoy Halo 3’s art style. I think if Halo’s graphics were always like the Anniversaries they’d look better.
Some people enjoy Monet…some people enjoy Van Gogh
Art styling is always subjective

True, but in this case halo grew with a cretin look to it, and all of a sudden was changed without any real reason.
It’s like those who love Monet, are forced to enjoy Van Gogh.
That first comparison is between a linear campaign map designed for heavy atmosphere. As in, they barely spent any mind to gameplay and level design, the core of what a multiplayer map needs. Urban, a warzone map, isn’t going to be the prettiest belle of the ball because in doing so, adding in a bunch of things just because they look cool, it could risk ruining the way the map plays. Geometry glitches, camping spots, unforeseen sniper perches, etc…
In conclusion, I don’t think the comparison is fair. Now compare Urban with say Boardwalk from Halo 3, that’s a much more fair comparison to make.
As for the other two pics, again one from a campaign mission and the other from a multiplayer map, I don’t actually see the correlation between the subjects. They are different from one another drastically to the point their is no common theme. Ones a zombie infested blown up to hell industrial park, the other is a state of the art military research facility. The theming couldn’t be more different.
I’ve always hated the halo 4-5 art style. Halo 3 looks way better. It’s like 343 changed it just to change it.

That’s exactly what they did, changed everything just for the sake of it being different so it’s firmly established as theirs now…
And they are allowed to do that BUT, they can’t then be surprised when they get negative reactions from the people who already liked it the way it was and never asked for it to change.
I make no bones about the fact that I prefer nearly everything about Bungie’s universe to 343’s. That said, I wouldn’t mind their changes if the 2 universes co-existed, i.e. seeing representations of both the old and new art styles together instead of just shoving the new ones down our throat.

They do that in the comics anyway so why not do it in the games?

Because they’re lazy and it’s quicker, cheaper, and easier to use 2-3 variations of a base model than it is to create 2-3 base models each with their own variations.

Can we just get Saber interactive/certain affinity from H2A and have them design the art style and weapon (sound) design? Nothing from 343 and even Bungie could come close to the immersion that those companies provided through the aesthetics of their game.
