To those that dislike the way Halo 5 is heading with its use of Spartan Abilities and aim-down sights, how would you personally innovate the game and Halo in general? There’s a lot of people that hate the direction that Halo has been going since Halo: Reach. But few have suggest any way that we can change Halo so that it isn’t a carbon copy of Halo 2 and Halo 3? I think most of you will agree that change to a series is good when it prevents the games from becoming stale and it doesn’t change the core parts which appeal to fans. Please suggest some changes you would like to see to the newer Halo games.
Unless you really want Halo 5 to be a graphically updated reskin of Halo 2…

A decent mid/long range automatic weapon, some sort of new heavy weapon that’s creative, new vehicles that are creative, new grenades, more good maps, etc. Basically creative things that expand the 3 pillars rather than shrink them to fit 4

I was thinking more along the lines of entirely new game mechanics like hijacking, duel wielding and equipment. New maps, guns and weapons could technically be included as a DLC component. They wouldn’t make Halo 5 fundamentally different from previous games of any significant level.
Unless a graphically updated Halo 2 or Halo 3 is all you really want.

Lol there’s a lot of people that hate the direction Halo has been going since Halo 2. Now they worship it like the covenant worship the forerunners.
Actually now that I think about it they do worship it like the covenant worship the forerunners lol.

Agreed. It’s kind of why I created this thread. It really annoys me when people here just complain about all of the changes in Halo 5, without suggesting what they might like to see instead. I can understand if people are a little concerned about the changes, but it’s silly to preemptively attack them just for being new without having experienced them yet.
To me, it’s as though they don’t care at all about keeping the series fresh and just want Halo 2 with prettier graphics. The ironic thing is that I think that’s akin to what CoD has been doing and it’ll kill the franchise in a similar way to Halo 4. People will move on from Halo if it just stays the same.
Stabilizers: Float in the air for easy jump shots. What I would like to see instead: Gravity. Seriously there is absolutely no justification for this. It contributes nothing to the game except for holding the player’s hand.
Ground Pound: Float in the air, launch at someone, and kill them. What I would like to see instead: Do a full shield bar worth of damage if aimed properly, otherwise do half a shield bar of damage.
So you can still kill already damaged enemies, but you can’t just plow into someone that has full shields and wreck them.
Also a slight delay after use so you can’t just spray them down right after hurting them.
Clamber: Pull yourself up any ledge with little skill requirement. What I would like to see instead: Very restricted wall-jumping, with most jumps requiring you to time the wall jump at the height of your first jump. You wouldn’t be able to jump back and forth between walls, it’s a one-time thing per jump.
SmartZoom: Pseudo-ADS What I would li-Oh my -Yoink- please remove this from the DMR. The Magnum and Battle Rifle version are fine, but the DMR’s weird acog scope just looks hideous.
Thruster
I’m fine with this. Just needs a slight range reduction.
Spartans calling out weapons, kills, etc.
Personally entirely fine with this, but should be a gametype option that can be turned off if competitive leagues deem it problematic, not just a personal option.

I agree with stabilizers, but according to Greenskull they are a bit hard to use regardless. Ground Pound is also very hard to use and if you don’t hit them spot on you only do splash damage so you are already right. According to footage where Ready Up Live’s greenskull did pull it off, you don’t just hit and get back up. It’s about a half second delay.
Clamber, eh I want parkour like Titanfall, but not full because Spartans in lore never really parkoured because it wasn’t necessary. I like the DMR’s scope, but the Battle Rifle’s is godawful along with the SMG. I think they’ll let you customize scopes though.
For the calling out stuff I think toggling it on and off per player would be nice especially if you have a headset. Seems easy enough.
Sigh, its my second favorite type of thread that pops up when people choose to remain ignorant of the myriad of reasons why people might be upset with particular changes, right behind “you just want Halo 2/3.5!”.
I imagine many people like myself would have simply liked to see more gradual change. If Halo 5 had been the natural evolution, coming off of two other Halo games, a lot fewer people would probably be upset. The last two Halo games were filled with quite a lot of bad changes. Some changes like Bloom or no-bleedthrough, just did not play as well as past mechanics, while others like loadouts and killstreaks, were absolutely incompatible with ‘Halo’ as many players understand it.
The original trilogy had its own sets of problem, but there were more positive/neutral changes that balanced much of it out.
As for my opinion on the changes, I don’t hate the direction Halo 5 is going in per-say, I hate that there were no signposts pointing in that direction. It clear that 343 is following the ‘modern’ shooter direction rather than relying soley on Halo’s past.
All I want from 343 is for them to focus on what is good for Halo’s gameplay and drop this nonsense about also doing what player’s ‘expect’. Player expectation’s vary between games, even games within the same genre.

I think Reach/H4 pretty clearly point to what’s going on in Halo 5. This is the THIRD game in a row where the devs are convinced that the way to improve Halo is to mess with the movement/ability sandbox in the game. It failed hard with Reach and H4, I don’t know why anyone would expect it to succeed with Halo 5. These concepts don’t work for Halo.

Dual wielding practically ruined a good portion of the weapon sandbox. Equipment was still felt by many that it changed the sandbox too much.
Halo 1-3’s changes were more positive then negative because barely anything changed.
Halo 5’s SA’s (for the most part) are natural evolutions to movement which is a core pillar of halo.
I’m not ignorant to think that people only want a 2/3 reskin. But it’s hard not to think of that when usually the people who speak up about this either don’t know how to add to make it evolve or suggest “creative” weapons/vehicles. Almost no one comes up with actual mechanical things or changes that would actually evolve the game.
Which is why certain people hold the view of people asking for reskins.

And both dual wielding and equipment were removed. Granted equipment was replaced with even less well received loadout AAs, but I digress. Some things were actually removed. Now suddenly nothing new can be removed otherwise we’re “not letting Halo evolve”. Even before Halo 5 was revealed, people have been giving well thought out reasons why, for example, sprint should be removed. There are compelling reasons to see sprint removed just like there were for removing dual wielding, yet it remains because “that’s what people expect”.
The whole “they just want a reskin” line is a complete strawman, it doesn’t matter how often people say they don’t like certain addition. “I don’t like X”, does not equal “I want an exact copy of Y”. There are changes and additions players liked in both Reach and Halo 4, but no one wants to wade through a pile of other terrible changes to get to it. Trying to put everyone who dislikes some of the changes into this “they hate all change” category is nothing but an attempt to discredit any dissent in order to suit a specific narrative. Like it or not, negative feedback is still legitimate feedback. Unfortunately there are a noticeable number of people who cannot deal with negative feedback or don’t even try to understand why other would feel a certain way.

How about new game mechanics like the dynamic map elements? I’m pretty sure most people would agree that they add to the sandbox in a meaningful way, as opposed to the abilities
I’ll quote someone else and say that the classic arena shooters Halo was originally based on are a thing of a past like muskets are to carbines, and that 343 needs to help envision the idea of what the future arena shooter will be like. So far, I like their intent since that is what they seem to aim for. The classic arena shooter may still sell, but my estimation is at best only in the indie market.
If there is one thing that makes Halo, it is significant change from one major title to the next as technology allows them, so by furthering their own changes, that is the Halo characteristic, or so it is to me. The day the next major release lacks in this sort of revolution will be worrying to me.

Also, as another poster suggested, what about a mode with bots to practice your aim/weapon skill?
I don’t see people rushing to get Nexuiz and Warsow. No idea what those games are? Proving my point.
Classic Halo might still succeed based on old dedicated fans buying it. The arena genre as a whole though is practically dead at this point in time. There are very few people born past the 90’s that even have the smallest amount of interest in games like Quake.
> but look at all teh moniezzzz battlefield and CoD make!!!"
And how exactly is this not evidence of the dominance of their new genre? People would rather play CoD than Halo, we sit around these forums all day debating between ourselves ways to forceCoD players to even consider playing Halo.
