To those groaning about the graphics

Mods, PLEASE sticky this thread so that we can put this nasty bit of panicked misinformation to rest.

With that being said… there’s been a lot of gnashing of teeth about how Infinite “looked terrible” yesterday.

Well… I’ve got some news that is both good and should also should make those that are trashing 343 because it is in vogue or simply out of sheer panic to do so learn about biting their tongues and not just reflexively scream in outrage:

The build featured in the gameplay demo? It is an older build of Infinite. In fact, it’s a year old.

Confirmed by Alanah Pearce:

Visual comparing the demo to the gameplay trailer showing a much newer build:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EdpxyYOXoAAYk6d?format=jpg&name=small

“But why would 343 use a year-old build to show off a launch title?” Well, first off, we’ve seen imagery of what the final product will look like… and second, it would have been incredibly awkward and embarrassing for the demo to crash in the middle of the showcase due to the latest build being too new and too unstable. Second? Guess who did THE EXACT SAME THING 13 years ago? Bungie, when they showed off gameplay for Halo 3.

So, in closing… RELAX, FOLKS. The whole point of that trailer yesterday was to let folks see how Infinite is going to play, as well as let us see the art style, tease the story, give us an idea of the game’s core features… the game is not going to launch in an obviously half-finished state.

If you have a confirmed age for the build, link directly to that.
What you’ve linked is a picture of a tweet with no ages visible.

Errr the Halo fanbase is very toxic right now. At this point, they’re mostly complaining about graphics and the textures. A lot of people are accepting the new mechanics in Halo Infinite, a lot more than the angry fans. I wouldn’t worry about it at the moment. 343i has always done well with their graphics, and I’m sure it’ll be polished in time. I would look at the positive response a lot more than the negative except for some reasonable concerns.

I just laugh at the overly plain and ugly brutes. They’re circulating all over Twitter, and it’s hilarious. Sometimes, you gotta laugh and take it easy. It’s a game, and nothing worth getting angry about. We have COVID-19 and health concerns, and we should be more mature about that. That’s not the case this time. There will always be angry and whiny fans. Game devs can’t please everyone.

I’m relieved to know that a lot of the graphical errors in Infinite are just a result of an early demo.
But I still do not understand why they would use this demo in particular? This is the flagship game for a next gen console which brags about its super fast SSD and we are seeing cloud pop-in while going up an elevator?! Low Poly trees just behind the guy being shot? That’s not an impressive technical demonstration.

That’s besides the point though. The game itself looks fun, I like open world. I like the Banished. I love Brohammer. The broader gaming community seems to like the game as a whole. And I also got over the crappy graphics of Skyrim (which is still in itself a really pretty game). I’m intrigued to see more equipment and how the already huge sandbox will work in multiplayer. BTB is going to be chaos.

I would if I could. But look at the footage for yourself if you don’t believe me:

Gameplay demo:

Gamplay Trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTp3W0mlsJASlow it down on both, and cross-compare. It’s VERY clear they used an older version of Infinite’s build for the demo. There are touch-ups and more polish and textures visible on weapons and the environment that are not visible in the demo.

If you’re wondering why they wouldn’t turn on absolutely every single graphical enhancement for the demo… think about it very carefully. You don’t think it would have been VERY awkward and a marketing nightmare for 343 and Microsoft for a gameplay demo of Halo Infinite to crash because it’s using the newest and most unstable build, and therefore put the stability of Microsoft’s new console into question…?

We’ve seen what the game looks like with all the bells and whistles on; the point of today’s demo was to show off gameplay, tease story, etc.

Would have been VERY awkward for 343 and Microsoft if the game crashed due to using a newer and much more unstable build.

Crash a pre-recorded video? You seem to be under the impression someone was streaming this gameplay.

Not my point. The fact is, an older version of the game is more stable. The point was to show off GAMEPLAY, not graphics.

Unfortunately for them, AAA video games have got to work with both great graphics and great gameplay. I’m sure the game will be fun but it has fallen flat on its face in showing how it utilizes the Series X; and actually seems to have worse technical performance than current gen games. Apart from the 4k 60fps, which is still incredibly impressive.

But why would they include a pre-recorded gameplay demo in the first place. Your statement is just odd to me is all. Like you’re trying to rationalize why the graphical fidelity was sub par by stating it could crash or be less stable as if it were being live streamed. I understand the premise of the statement, but it just doesn’t make any sense in this application.

This is not about believing / not believing.

You said the build is one year old, others state it’s six months old.
Then you provide a link that should prove your claim, and you say it’s confirmed by a specific person.

Here’s the issues with your picture:
It does not say how old the build is, only that it is older.
The person you mention is not directly posting on that picture.
It contains half a link to a reddit thread.

How can you not link directly? Haven’t you taken the picture? I’m not going to dig that thread up, for two reasons, it’s not my job to provde you with the evidence you need to back your claim. I also kind of do not care, the graphic fidelity is one thing, I’m more disappointed with the overall design of things, improved grpahic fidelity won’t solve that.

Not only that, but doing the work you tell me to, isn’t mine to do. It’s your claim to prove. That, and the age of a build can’t be determined like that. If we could determine the age of a build, this wouldn’t be necessary as any viewer would know it as they watch it.
