I will try and express my thoughts as clearly and decisively as possible.
As someone who also grew up with Halo, I have a strange connection with it. I hold it in an esteem that an object shouldn’t probably hold in ones life. Therefore I want the best for the franchise and for it to do as well as possible so that Halo games will continue to be made into the future.
What I am deeply confused by are those who also claim to be Halo fans. This thread is not about everyone, and I thank those who choose not to disregard Halo 4 before it is even released, before there is substantial gameplay footage, and before 343i is even given a chance to show you their finished work.
The first thing I cannot stand hearing is that “Halo 4 is copying CoD” or “Loadouts? this isn’t CoD” or “You just lost a veteran fan, I ain’t gunna play a CoD rip-off” or “Way to destroy Halo, second-rate CoD derpderp” The reason I cannot stand this is because the very thing that I found to be the death of Call of Duty was the very thing these so-called Halo fan wanted: The same damn game, year after year. The Halo fan-base has seemed to grow into nothing but a bunch of whiny kids; Who, instead of appreciating the first Halo games for what they were, ask for exact same game with a different cover and will continue to ask for this until the classic halo gameplay has been so ridden into the ground no one will want to remember it.
If there is one thing to learn from Call of Duty, it isn’t that perks don’t make a game fun, or that loadouts destroy a game, or even that sprinting should never be included in any game ever; In fact the lesson that should be learned from Call of Duty is that if you use the exact same gameplay over and over, it becomes boring, and that is the last thing I want to happen to Halo.
I ask every one of fellow Halo-fans to consider what I am about to say: Isn’t it better to give Halo 4 a chance and allow it to good in it’s own right? What is the harm in trying something new, and actually finding you like it? What if Bungie had made Halo exactly like Marathon, just because they didn’t want to take a risk and allow it to shine in its own right? Or maybe they left Halo as a real-time strategy game as it was originally designed to be? I understand those of you who are scared for something new to come to Halo, I’m the guy who went to the sub-shop and ordered the same sub every single day; Then one day I decided to try something new, I tried peperoni and salami on Italian-herb with pepper-jack cheese. That sandwich was the best thing that ever happened to my taste-bugs. I think Halo 4 could be the same thing, just not in a sandwich way.
The harm for some is so they can’t do a showoff with their lvl 50 accounts and they actually HAVE TO ADAPT and change their tactics now. Personally i love the new Halo.
I love what I’ve seen of the new Halo as well. All I want is for Halo 4 to be its own game, to have something where I can say “What’s great about Halo 4 is…” instead of feeling that is was nothing but an updated previous title.

Exactly, we’ve been running on the old formula since 2001 and now Halo takes a turn and gets new stuff… You’d almost believe the haters are getting heart attacks…
OP I agree with you whole heatedly and have used the EXACT same argue, want to shut down several hate threads already, bravo, I’m glad someone else noticed this. I feel like this game could really be the next BIG thing, we’ve waited so long and it’s following in the footsteps of its predecessors. I know some folks are still miffed over bungie leaving, but honestly, they DUMPED us, they abandoned the fans, they has one game to finish their contract after ODST and instead of continuing chiefs story they crapped out reach and said their good byes. I hold no affection for bungie anymore other than crediting them with having started it. But 343i was willing to tackle an epic as their very first game. This is a company that’s made up of fans, built just for this franchise by one of the largest software developers in the world. And honestly, if it weren’t for halo, I don’t think a lot of us would have bought an OG Xbox, much less kept gaming. And I don’t think it would have been as easy for them to move onto the 360. Halo did a lot for a lot of people and the console itself. Here we are at the dawn of a new trilogy, the first game building on the last just as they always have and the younger fans can do nothing but gripe, some of the veteran fans want to pull the ultimate rage quit. This time and this game will be the true test of ones commitment to this franchise. Ladies and gentlemen I am a halo fanboy and I am damn proud of it, all the games, all the novels, hours on the wiki, I love this fictional universe with all my heart and I can’t wait to see the chief again. Sorry for the rant * tucks the fanboy back into his box*

What bugs me is that I feel like 343i will actually listen to them, but that’s just me having a heart attack. The biggest let-down wouldn’t actually be Halo 4 sucking terribly, it’d be not knowing if it could have been better if they actually changed it before it was released. If that made any sense, let me know, it worked in my head.
Don’t you get it? The reason we don’t want these perks and AA ect, is because of the idea on where 343 is taking halo. It’s just conforming to the mainstream game rather it being it’s own epic series. Why do we have to fix somthing that is not broken? Once Halo has finished turning into CoD it WILL BE THE SAME THING OVER OVER AND OVER.

Yay! The poop parade just shown up, elaborate on the “we” again for me, i find it highly entertaining. This game proves its not going to be the same thing over and over, besides it is completely out of our hands.

I know exactly what you mean, I too read every book before I could get my hands on an Xbox and proudly wear the title of Halo-fanboy. My feelings on Bungie are also mixed, on one hand I find myself immensely grateful that they started the series, but I felt like ODST and Reach didn’t have the same love as the first three. It was as if they realized they were going to be done, so they stopped caring about putting the effort in. I mean booting up Reach and finding that they only included campaign multi-player maps with boring gray forge maps made me want to cry. I want to see the same care that was put into the first three games put into Halo 4. I don’t think 343i will disappoint.

I will simply point out that all of the Halo 4 haters have the same pattern: offer complaints but few/no solutions. Come back with suggestions on how to make Halo 4 better rather than just shooting ideas down. Hating is easy, and not very rewarding.

I feel a little betrayed. But anyway, moving on. I feel like a lot of love is being put into this game already. Just listening to the way the devs are talking about the game hints that they hold it in a nearly god like regard. Not only is it their livelyhood it’s a game in a series most if not all of them are fans of. I honestly believe with every fiber of my being that this will be a game that set the bar higher than ever before. The few moments of multiplayer we’'ve seen looks amazing and guess what, NO BLOOM ON THE BR!!!

You want change… But you embrace COD… Which means no change!!! Halo has always been evolving look at CE to Halo 3. Just because it’s a new trilogy doesn’t mean we have to Gut halo and remove everything. It’s not going to work.

How can you love the new Halo? You haven’t played it yet.
I’m just making a point here since people get blasted for saying they hate the new Halo already.
Change is a good thing. The only hard part is how much do you change at once. I think by summers end we will have a much clearer picture of what Halo 4 will be.
I don’t find change repulsive; I encourage the evolution of Halo to something new if that’s what 343i wants to do.
What I do find repulsive is yanking elements from mainstream shooters that have incredibly watered down the FPS market. If I felt like the changes were original (similar to what Spartan Ops is going to be) then I would embrace it and celebrate it. The reality remains, though, that 343i is pushing Halo 4 towards a watered down version of Halo in order to appease new players.

Im not Hating on Halo, I want Halo 4 to be a good as it can be. Clearly you didn’t read the post. I want new features just as much as you do but I also want Halo. 343 needs to stop going in the direction of CoD. And be it’s OWN GAME. Just because it new doesn’t mean it’s anygood.

Halo has already taken things from other series and incorporated them into the Halo gameplay just fine, take Firefight for example. Firefight-esque gameplay modes have been around long before Halo ODST, but it was fun none the less because it was a new thing to the series. No one had seen a horde mode Halo style, for that same reason Halo 4 can take gameplay elements from other series without destroying what made the series great in the first place. No gutting will be involved.

None of us apcan pass this judgment seeing as how we don’t know how any of these changes will be incorporated and balanced out. If you look over all the new info it starts looking really great, I to was really worried at one point but I lack perspective seeing as I’ve never played ANY CoD game on principle lol

I’m not necessarily passing judgment. I am just an incredibly huge Halo fan worried about the direction that Halo 4 is going in. When we actually see the game in action I hope that my mind is changed entirely, it’s just that these changes don’t look so hot on the surface.
