So recently I’ve seen threads of people who proclaimed that they’ve exhausted all permanent unlocks for the req system by purchasing gold packs.
I did some rough math on this and pretty much to buy all the unlocks via gold packs you would have had to spend in the neighborhood of 1000 to 1200 dollars, on halo 5 micro-transactions. I know people have disposable income, I know that some people can afford this, but really? A thousand dollars? I just…SMH…
You can rationalize that you’re supporting 343i but come on people. This behavior just reinforces companies that microtransactions are OK and will be in future titles.
This system is for the corporations to profit off of explicitly and not for the consumers benefit at all.
I am adamantly not purchasing packs because I don’t support the practice of micro-transactions, especially in an non-freemium AAA FPS that we payed 60 bucks for before hand.
Games like World of Tanks get away with this model because that game is free to play, although not spending money on that particular game is detrimental to advancing.
And the free maps DLC counter argument? 343i will make far more money with the micro-transaction system then people purchasing all the DLC’s, or even a shudders season pass. So them saying maps will be free is kinda meh…
The point in free DLC is so every one can play it!
before we would pay for DLC and over time we would be locked out of the maps cause no body else has them. Halo 4’s last DLC I played the maps a few times no where near worth what I paid for the them.
and we can still earn the unlocks by playing the game.
Hey if they want to spend their hard earned money on micro transactions for cosmetic things. I say let them. 343 is giving out free dlc maps and people like me won’t spend a dime more than the base cost of the game.
Agree with OP. REQs aren’t invasive yet. But if Microsoft sees how much they can make off REQs, you really think they won’t gradually make it more and more invasive? They’d monetise their biggest franchise right now, but they know we wouldn’t accept it…Yet.
One only needs to look at the amount EA make every year from Fifa Ultimate Team with their packs to see the moneymaking potential of REQs and how anti consumer it can potentially be. So yeah it’s not my money, I’m not telling anyone how to spend it but if people don’t buy packs then maybe we won’t see Halo monetised. 343i will only supply if there’s demand.
I’m confident Arena will largely remain unaffected by REQs.

People! Please stop defending Micro Transactions. You are just encouraging 343i. I’m positive they are adding free DLC maps due to Halo MCC’s failure launch.
Its OPTIONAL…If people want to spend money on it then let them, its not like you can use it in arena anyway (excluding skins etc) which would give them an advantage.
I have, and now you see why some of us complain about the game. If I spent 1000 on micros, 499.00 on the console, 59.99 on the controller. -Yoink!- I will voice my opinions.
What good is a power weapon that never gets unlocked because you don’t have the time to unlock it, or if I finally get a 7+req only to die as soon as I spawn by a ghost splattering me. -Yoink- no!, as a consumer you would be mad as hell.

Tired of this post… microtransactions are OKAY! If you don’t want them then don’t buy them! If i can pay money to get something back. There is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Why? Because 9 times out of 10. They tend to cost no more then ten bucks a piece. At most! Would i personally spend more then 100 dollars on microtransactions? Nope probably now. But i am not going to cry about other people doing so because, they were given an option and felt comfortable taking that option. Their life, their money, their choice -.-
I think this is one of the best methods of “pay to win” even I could have ever conceived.
This isn’t buy a gun -> your KD is better now like in COD, this is for a certain realm of gametypes only, and in reality, none of those REQs break the game, since there’s nothing to gain from breaking it, other than a victory, which has very little ramifications whatsoever.
Until they put in a ranking system in warzone, which is the conscious decision that they didn’t compared to arena, it’s more just a sandbox for -Yoinking!- around and having fun.
See, to me, playing 3 matches of assault seems far more enticing than spending 2 dollars on a silver pack, but there are people who aren’t going to play 10000000 hours and would rather just drop the money for some RNG but at least unlocking everything. It’s really a great system until proven otherwise.
If this stuff could have been used in arena then of course it would be broken and terrible.
– side note - am I missing anything about an eventual rank system in warzone/warzone assault? if so, I rescind everything I said. lol

You should have knew before hand how the system worked before you shelled out the cash.(granted no one can get mad at you if you didn’t ) Most peopler did it for the armor, not the req cards that as you said you may never get to use

Free maps made in forge by community members! LMAO. They’re are not wasting a dime on new maps for us. Just “invite” community members and their pay is their name in the recognition. Hopefully that money actually goes into the HCS and to the players.

He is referring to content they will be bringing out next year, new maps etc which will not be done by the forge.

oh no, don’t get me wrong. I did it for the armor. I take screenshots, being that there is no fileshare right now. Its difficult. I knew how the req system worked prior. What I am saying is, you most likely never get your req power up to a level 9 in a game because the match is too short. They should be 30mins long, or reduce what it takes to get the level there…

The problem is many people get addicted and the addiction is just like a gambling habit with teens who are too young to even gamble
Oh, I love Microtransaction threads, its kind of funny it really is. 343 is not forcing you to purchase REQ packs at all. If people want to do it they are going to do it.
