There have been way to many changes since halo 3! halo 3 was the first ever game I had on my 360 console and I became a huge fan and brought all of the previous halo games. Everything about these games from halo combat evolved to halo ODST blew my mind until reach… Its like bungie had took there aim to be the best had threw it out the window! they added load outs similar to the call of duty classes, the maps were boring (in my opinion). And despite the missions were your in space it didn’t feel like you were fighting the covenant, it didn’t feel like the other halo games with that space-aged like feel. I just felt that bungie had doubts about halo and made it more like call of duty.
Which gets me to the point of Halo 4.
After purchasing halo anniversary I felt that 343 Industries had carefully considered the amount of changes they would make to halo combat evolved. I experienced this by playing in a halo combat evolved style but with stunning graphics, this changed my opinion of 343 Industries of coming into the halo community to try and just take money from us and make a slap-dash game. But despite this the trailer that 343 had released had really angered me in the way they changed EVERYTHING! That had been originally in halo 3. Like were the did the jet pack come from? They were supposed to be his vents :s Were did the pistol with the grenade inside come from? 343 had been careless in the execution of this trailer and I am still unsure what shock awaits us in halo 4 will it be the best halo game ever made? Or is it going to be a hit and miss careless action? In which the halo fans and community will have to pay a heavy price, if so having to kiss goodbye to the halo franchise.
The trailer wasn’t canon. Maybe he will get the rocket pistol later in the campaign. WE HAVE NO IDEA. Stop being a fanboy and wanting the exact same game.
that rocket pistol is in the game
I actually think Halo 3:ODST was where the scope of the Halo fanbase decreased and Bungie started to branch out too much, and releasing spin off games led to a loss of interest in the Halo series .Hopefully, Halo 4 restores this by being a true successor to Halo 3

Reach was allowed to make changes to the so-called “Halo formula” because it was a spin-off. It was not a continuation of the Halo trilogy proper; that is what Halo 4 is going to be. Like Halo Wars and ODST before it, Reach represents a separate story, and therefore a separate formula.
I would also like to point out that, in contradistinction to the title of your thread, you listed a whopping two changes in your post (I don’t count disliking the maps as a “change”): loadouts and space battles.
Ya Reach was meant to be a prequel/sidestory. I’m sure the best is yet to come for Halo 4 and the rest of the Reclaimer Trilogy?
Halo 3 wasn’t perfect, especially in the Campaign. IMO Halo 2 was better in many ways.
Stop using Halo 3 as the gold standard. It isn’t Halo’s gold standard, although one may argue that it was polished.
So many new players started with Halo 3, it seems like this forum is flooded with them.

There is no gold standard; it’s all a matter of opinion. I’ve been playing Halo since the first game was released in 2001 and Halo 3 is my favourite game in the series.

i hope you are aware that halo wars was not made by bungie and the company that made it are now bankrupt this proves my point exactly.

i feel like you but the how you call it “jetpack” is a thruster pack and we have it since halo 2
and about the grenade-pistol i dont like it very much as well, but its not sure if its implemented into the game

This, the trilogy honestly ended with halo 2. Halo 3 was just a disaster due to changes in development during the last few months.
Hell, Halo 2 is messing at least two hours of content they wanted to put in along with the dozens of other things yet most people call that the best game.
So imagine how much better halo 3 would have been if there wasn’t a development change and there was leftover content they couldn’t put in due to being rushed.
I agree with the OP but disagree at the same time. This is why.
ODST: didn’t change anything exept minor changes to the weapon sandbox and Firefight
Reach:Changed EVERYTHING (not all in a good way) AA’s, assasinations, BLOOM, weapon balance, etc
Reach TU:Went backwards. Gameplay was changed (again, not all in a good way) in Reach to change bloom, AA nerfs, etc
Halo CEA: Doesn’t count. Remake.
Anniversary map pack: Made Reach Halo 1 and 2-ish (not completly) and added TU objective gametypes
And no, IMO Halo 3 is not the gold standard for anything. For me, that’s Halo 2 (even if its campagin was cut short at the end)
Sorry that the rest of us don’t want copy pasta game(Like COD) and want something new with each release(within reason of changes). Both the devs and -Yoink!- know that if they stagnate the franchise it won’t make them money. As with life, everything must change however stubtle or grand, it must change. Games are no exceptions.
