To last 10 Years (Live Service) - But Visuals?

From the mouth of 343 Industries themselves they have stated that Halo: Infinite will be a “platform that lasts 10 years”.

However I’ve several major concerns with this:

  1. Console generations rarely last 10 years let alone a game.
  2. Needs massive amounts of content to last a whole decade. (Which I doubt 343 can keep producing in a timely manner)
  3. Needs visuals that can stand the tide of time and still look good some ten years later. Which if the Halo: infinite game-play reveal is anything to go by that is definitely not the case in this situation.
  4. By describing this game as a platform for 10 years 343 have described Halo: Infinite as a Live Service game. And with live service games comes downgrades to overall product quality and micro-transactions.

On an ending note to further cement my concerns. How can 343 industries who take 5 years and 500 million dollars to develop Halo: Infinite. Of which then has gameplay that looks like it is from early this current console generation or at the back-end of the Xbox 360 generation. Be confident that they can produce enough content in a timely manner of high quality to keep this game going for 10 years. Definitely with competition from other big open world games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Avowed that will likely look two to three times better in the visuals department and have much bigger open worlds with more to do??

Did you know that Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development 8 years? I didn’t, but I do now.

Halo: Infinite may need to take note and spend another year in the oven. Looks like it is still in early alpha.

I strongly disagree and think most people are being overdramatic, but hey, to each their own.

Was just saying, for competing examples, maybe Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t exactly the best choice. Honestly, I’m not even convinced Cyberpunk 2077 will be all that good; I found the Witcher games to be boring as sin combat-wise even if the campaign was good and the graphics were good, and I kind of figure Cyberpunk 2077 will be the same.

Ghosts of Tsushima literally just released on current gen PS4. A massive open world game and the graphics look three times better in comparison to Halo: Infinite.

And Halo: Infinite is supposed to be a launch title for when the Xbox Series X releases.

How is that not cause for concern…

Because there are more important things to worry about other than graphics, chiefly, is the game actually fun.

I’m not going to run around like a chicken under a falling sky because of an 8 minute stream displaced by months of development that looks fine, if a bit off in the lighting department, doesn’t look quite as well as some other game that I’m not even vaguely interested in, when it’s being made in the midst of a pandemic and an encroaching economic shortfall. I have more important things about Halo Infinite to worry about, chiefly, “Does it look fine (Yes)” and “Is it going to be fun to play (Maybe)”.

Hell, the only thing I am bugged by is the Grunt backpacks and Brute Armors being a bit flat in the colors department and not looking all that weathered. But they still look leagues better than Halo 4 and 5’s nose-inhaler grunts and weird lizardman Elites.

If the game wants to last 10 years it will need both good gameplay and good visuals to even have a chance.

I wouldn’t expect it to last 10 years if it had top tier visuals and gameplay that satisfied everyone in age groups 10-110. That said, plenty of games have lasted 10+ years just for having an immensely satisfying gameplay loop.

(Seriously, just look at World of Warcraft. That game has been around for 16 years and tons of people still play it. League of Legends has been around for 11. Minecraft has been around for 11. There’s a long list of games that have graphics that aren’t competitive with modern games but still host respectably large fanbases.)

Visuals in terms of lighting, colour grading etc should be improved by the time the game launches. But don’t expect anything to be groundbreaking.

Halo isn’t a graphical game anyway. Plus Infinite is trying to go for Native 4k 60 FPS in a openish world, well more open then any Halo game.

Also, you guys could watch the Halo 5 sprint videos to get idea how they do stuff etc.

my guy, if theres a game thats most likely going to win game of the year, thats Cyberpunk

Theoretically. You can come back and tell me I’m wrong when it does, until then, it hasn’t happened yet.

And then I’ll tell you I don’t even remember you and to stop necroposting.

I said it will probably happen, not that it already happened.

Same difference.

More likely to be GOTY contender then Halo: Infinite at this rate.

Here’s the thing though it’s supposed to be a “launch title” but it’s made for current gen

So is Cyberpunk 2077.

It releases late November. Which aligns with likely new gen console release dates. So it is now lol.

I suppose, but what I was saying is it’s not really next gen because it’s also for this gen.in saying that I don’t get why it looks worse then halo 4.

All I’ll say is, if I’m going to buy a car to last me the next 10 years, I’ll be more concerned with the state of the engine than how good it looks.
