Rumors suggest that this might be 343s finale in the master chief saga. The guy is pushing 50 in infinite, so if they continue to develop in the Halo universe, things may shift to a new protagonist.

I don’t understand how Chief’s age matters much, Spartans are theorized to outlive normal humans by 3x’s their lifespan or longer. They don’t have enough data to know for sure as none of the Spartans have existed for more than 30-40 years.
Now Steve’s age getting up there I can understand, retiring the Chief because the VA can’t do it after 20-30 years is understandable.
Plus, you have to keep in mind that he has been in cryosleep multiple times, so it’s as if he hasn’t aged.
