To get it right

Do you guys think they will consult the current top players in the original to discuss things that should be changed for balance in the new one or would it be useless because the game will be so different?

I think they won’t consult them. Halo Wars was released seven years ago by a studio that shut its doors shortly after.

Another thing to consider is that Halo Wars was never an e-sport game, atleast not a known one to the masses. Which I think is one of the major reasons i343 has brought Halo pro players on board.

I for one am hoping for a very different game than the original, while it did have its positives, the limitations in it were too many. I also think it’ll be different seeing as it’s also for PC and by a different studio well known for its strategy games.

I would hope so, but probably not. But veterans of the original can certainly make their voices heard. Personally, I think that they need to address some pretty major issues like:

  1. Giving the covenant a unit equivalent to the warthog that gives them map control. The hero centric focus of the covenant certainly hurt them in the grand scheme of things.
  2. I also think down-teching gave the UNSC such a massive advantage, that too must be changed.
  3. Responsive units, less prone to getting stuck on scenery.
  4. Removal and complete obliteration of the Arbiter in his current form.
  5. The game was so action focused, it’s such a shame that replays weren’t available for saving your best games/uploading to Youtube. If they do that this time around, it would give the game a fighting chance as a spectator sport.

I definitely agree with these. Beyond frustrating to see you’re units getting stuck due to either the the environment or over crowding in a certain area. Also Yoink the Arbiter. Anyone who has played against a good Arbiter will understand.

Halo Wars was an unbalanced game, that’s one of the reasons why people enjoyed Halo Wars. Simplicity. Very few units were dominant.

We’ll see what Creative Assembly have to offer in the coming future.

Metaloid, that would probably be the best thing to do. I just really hope i343 does not consult with the FPS pros they use when making their FPS games.
I also hope they stick to their roots on this game and not try to make it too over complex. Halo Wars did it right as far as I’m concerned.
