According to Wikipedia, free-to-play games were supposed to not have an Xbox Live Gold requirement after March 2021.
Can you confirm that?
No, I haven’t bought any Xbox consoles since the 360.
Well, untill we get confirmation that you need gold to play infintie multi OR campaign we can’t really say anything about Infinite needing MOAR money… besides companies should NOT focus on ONE game at a time they should be realeaing or working on multiple games That’s how they make money… not by forcing people to pay through monetization so I think these microtransactions are an excuse for 343 to NOT diversify their portfolio of games.
Why would you need Xbox Live Gold to play campaign?
Also, I don’t think it’s wrong for a company to support one game for a while, but Infinite is obviously doing it the wrong way.
To pay for the servers… Honestly can’t come up with a better explanation…
Game sales alone should already make the games break even and more so yes on that👍 It’s sadly something a lot of people are ignorant on.
I can understand if a company wants to make some more after the sales, but money gouging with bull**** isn’t the proper way to make that extra money unless they’re ok -Yoink!- people off which it seems they are. Quality expansions and such can be a great way to get extra money, enhance the players experience and people are more than willing to pay for it. Locking things that were in the previous games however behind a pay wall? It’s pretty obvious money gouging they’re trying to do. The sad part is whales exist.
I mean, the campaign isn’t multiplayer as far as I know (are they going to add online co-op?), so I doubt they would require Gold to play it unless they added multiplayer to it.
Maybe Infinite would require Gold, but I doubt it, considering that it probably isn’t required for free-to-play games.
That’ll bee $19.99 as DLC. Jokes aside i wouldn’t be surprized ,but they said they are adding it from what i have seen IN SIX MONTHS
I wouldn’t be surprised either with how Microsoft seems to be doing things now.
It really boggles my mind that they didn’t have co-op ready when it released, considering that people have been saying the game has been in development for 6 years.
Bungie’s Halo games took less time I think, yet they still had good co-op available at release from what I remember.
Bungie was probably a smaller company without corprate overlords to complain about extra profits… so they were able to focus more on quality over quantity, and without modern snake oil sales.
Maybe, but Halo: CE was very popular, and Halo seemed to be a very important series for Microsoft by the release of Halo 3.
I guess it could be that the way Microsoft does things has changed, or that it’s more difficult to add co-op to a semi-open-world game.
I think at that time Microsoft was just the publisher and did not own bungie… with 343 as their subsidiary i think they can rake in more of the profits, thus why the changes came… but i could be wrong I dunno how it all works. But I do know you can’t rule out Microsoft pushing 343 a little…
Bonnie Ross is the head of 343 and she also happens to be a Vice President for Microsoft itself so Microsoft definitely has a lot of pull with 343.
So most who are playing multi-player are paying for gamepass. This is making them hundreds of millions a month, billions a year. Do the math of 18m gamepass subscribers, with it most likely only growing. While running these games, xbox live has always been, on azure servers. These servers are owned by MS and the costs are minimal at this point.
F2P is basically an insult to, not just the fans but gamepass subscribers in general. The entire multi-player was formed around the store. The user interface is terrible which causrs the user experience to be terrible. You have minimal selections. I can’t select slayer but you sure can jump straight into the store with just the push of a button.
My biggest concern is will this be the future of gamepass?
We pay monthly only to beaten down with atrocious and game bending monetization. If this level of monetization continues, I don’t see how I can justify gamepass. Gamepass was supposed to do away with this because they’re making so much from monthly subscribers. I was super excited for gamepass but was instead smacked in the face with this sheet.
To be fair, MS is giving away stuff to get GamePass out there. The amount of points a player can earn with GP can easily set off the monthly cost for that players pass. If you are playing the MP and have gamepass you can get about $12’s worth of points a month to spend on cosmetics.
The store could honestly have a larger selection at cheaper prices, which would give them more money over a longr period but companies today are all about being in the moment and not really looking ahead.
How does this apply to PC though?
Where do you get this because I don’t see it.
Gamepass App, Xbox Live rewards app, Bing, Explorer.
In the Live rewards app they have a list of items you can redeem for your MS points.
They will make you play or launch some showcased games, download from the mobile app, it’s all pretty easy mindless stuff. This week they added HI to the list 2x points for 3 Achivos. So if you are on Gamepass make sure you collect the rewards.
PC is harder, as I am not 100% familiar with how MS is running GamePass on PC, but if you have GamePass you have access. If you have a MS account you have access to earn points as well, through Bing and MS rewards, just at a slower pace.
It’s all to get you invested in the MS ecosystem, but since most of us already are, it isn’t a massive hassle.
