To all those who play online

Hey. I have an important topic to bring up. it is about communication and great time on video games. As you know back in halo 3 or 2 days the game lobbies were full of people speaking. it felt alive, now its all deserted, depressing and saddening to join a match and hear no one speaking. why don’t you all talk in matches? why do you all go into party chats? what happened to meeting new people and having a great time?

It is a request from the bottom of my heart please make a great community again. please speak, please be in open game chat. Not just in halo but any game. playing now feeling like playing with bots or AI, it feels dull.

you too will have a good time

Thank you!!!

This could be a psychological study maybe. I’m a -Yoink!- but it’s interesting to think about.
Perhaps the live system is viewed with less awe nowadays, since we’re used to it. It would be very interesting if every person just talked normally trying to play the game for fun.
People are gonna say they go silent to not hear people sing or eat or loud music. But what if everyone else was talking, you can just mute loud people and talk to everyone else anyway.

When I play it’s always me talking about the match to a silent team or my 1 friend, then sometimes 1 or 2 guys begin talking. Normal girls never talk.

Those days were op!

I don’t speak anymore after having an account shut down for “communication”. What was typical game banter in the days of halo 2 now offends the snowflakes in our midst. Microsoft has chosen to protect the poor snowflakes and crack down on anything resembling a good trash talking.

Moderation was the downfall to chat… unfortunately we ruined it for ourselves so the options to hide were introduced.

Because of little babies and ultra sensitive snowflakes complaining about some good ol’trash talk now -Yoink!- moderates Xbox Live. How unfortunate.
People used to talk a lot of -Yoink- and troll back during Halo 3 but that started to change after 343i came along. Anyone remember the -Yoink- (Federation of -Yoink-hole Gamers)?

HA! I love how you’re a jerk and it’s everyone else’s fault. It’s not that I can’t handle your trash talk, it’s that I choose not to, and I also choose to report you for acting like an idiot and hiding behind the anonymity of the internet when you do it. Being tired and bored of other peoples’ bad behavior doesn’t make me a snowflake any more than your -Yoink- attitude makes you a bad -Yoink-, or whatever it is that you think trash talk makes you. Get some -Yoinking!- manners.

OP: This clown is why nobody mics up anymore, and sadly he’s far from the only one.

The community is extremely anti social now, its bad. Its no fault of their own either, lobby chat should never of been taken out. If you don’t like what people are saying to you pre/post game lobby, just mute them. Problem solved. I hope this comes back.

The reasons vary from person to person, but I’ll share my thoughts.

  • Times have changed since the golden days. Alongside that, the gamer demographic has shifted to something different. Perhaps there are those who aren’t as willing to open up to new people - which isn’t a bad thing at all - but I suppose that’s their choice. There is the possibility they’ll change, but we’ll never know for certain. - Sometimes I perform better when I’m quiet. Even if I don’t talk, communicating through actions like saving a teammate in time or catching a sneak attacker can be more than enough. I went without a mic in the past before, forcing me to become more proactive and aggressive so my team doesn’t have to worry about me. It’s made me a much better player. - I want to control the amount of friends I have on Xbox. Keeping tabs on a ton of people can get overwhelming, and I don’t want to put up with those who’re very hasty on sending invites and messages I don’t wanna accept. It’s especially annoying if the person(s) in question are 12 year-olds based on past experiences.

Stop being a whiny little -Yoink-, just mute him if you don’t like what he has to say.

The community has always been anti social, some of the trash talking got way out of hand back in the day, there is nothing wrong with a bit of banter, but the racial, homophobic and religious slurs were way over the top, I agree with you saying mute them, but once you decide to mute the damage has already been done, hence why you’re muting. I don’t think it will come back, but the option to choose to go into it could be an idea.

It is not about that my friend. People today have become too sensitive. it is not a good thing. people are not able to take a little joke or sarcasm. i am not saying that being too sensitive is bad in anyway. it is just that if you don’t learn to to man up or take a joke, you miss out on an important life lesson, specially for men. it is being able to let the negative enter from one year and letting it out from another. being strong mentally, emotionally and physically to thrive in a world which is not so friendly or appreciating as times. Let me assure you my friend. we are entering a very different age for mankind and it is a period of grave importance. what ever is accepted as correct now will be what mankind will become tomorrow. what makes that matter worse is that there is misinformation and lack of understanding of various topic. Now what I am talking about is really difficult to explain on text without making is very very long. however I assure you that this is a critical thing. it really does matter. please take my word for it. we humans were meant to live in harmony, by being toxic, shutting communication to others we are really destroying humanity. if it continues no alien race will be needed for our destruction. we will the instrument of our own destruction. I urge you all to please learn more about psychology, your brain, your heart, read about self-improvement. trust me It would help. I was a very reclusive person. I grew up in the darkness of social life… i was the broken emotionally but it was at 20 years of age a true friend came along and helped me became a better person.

short version. please learn to harden up. man up and learn to be open minded. seriously, i does not look like it but we are really in a dark age. a dark age of social interaction and communication, and it is only going worse and worse with every passing day.

Excuse me? No, that’s not how this works at all. Have you been in game chat as a girl? Have you had to sit there and be talked down to simply beause you have indoor plumbing which means that you clearly belong only in the kitchen.

I have zero desire to go into game chat and be treated to sexist, misogynistic, childish comments hurled at me down the mic.

I like party chats and if I can’t use them, I’ll either:

  • Not play - Use discord/skype - Unplug my mic - Mute everyone automatically

I’m not good with talking to random people, plus when I play games I prefer silence, I just want to hear the game.

Maybe everyone has it different, but from what I’ve personally seen, the girls I’ve heard that play games arn’t talked down to, they are looked up to because their a girl. They usually just have to talk and a minute later a bunch of people are trying to talk to her and are in shock that a girl is playing video games. That’s just my experience with that though. Also on the other end of this, as a guy, I used to talk in game rooms, but whenever I did I would be attacked by people in the game chat. They would cuss at me or say they hope I die. That’s exactly why I stopped using my mic and stopped being so social.

Muting a -Yoink!- is like hearing somebody cry for help in the night and just walking away so you don’t have to hear it any more. Trash talk is a teachable moment and I choose to impart a lesson. The only way I can imagine that makes me a whiny -Yoink- is if you yourself are also a trash talking -yoink!-head, in which case I’ll say to you what I said to him: internet anonymity is not an excuse for bad behavior. Get some -Yoinking!- manners.

I appreaciate that you took the time to try to explain your concerns, and I almost sort of understand them. But in the spirit of honesty I have to say that what I pulled out of that was a very vague Darwinian, First Amendment, Promise-Keepers, man-up-or-be-crushed, pile of sadness. This isn’t about manning up. It’s about common decency. You’re absolutely right that the world at large can be a hostile place. You can make a choice to recreate that hostility on xbox live in some bizarre and extremely misguided attempt to strengthen the weak (if that’s really what you think you’re doing), or you can choose to treat your fellow gamers, and maybe even humanity in general, with some small degree of respect.

If you really want to make this a lesson in human psychology then I might say of someone who had written someing like I read above: “Grew up in an environment somewhere on the spectrum between indifference and hostility, and from that experience learned that the best way to treat a world that treats you like -Yoink- is to treat it back the exact same way.” The real path to growth is not to accept abuse and redistribute it. The path forward is to recognize it, understand it, and move beyond it. Maybe even to resist it.

As a wise woman once said (paraphrasing here), “Respect isn’t weakness and bullying isn’t strength.” I don’t need the xbox live reporting system to confront bad behavior (I’d like to call it bullying or hate speech or microaggression, but I sense that any of those would be hot-button terminology for you), but the fact that it exists and that it’s already slapped you on the wrist once should tell you something. That people are over-sensitive? Some of them, yes. Some of the time. But what it should also be telling you is that there’s a time and place for everything, and xbox live is neither the time nor the place to treat strangers like garbage. If you want to teach some life lessons about getting tough then have some kids of your own and then you can recycle all the same stuff your parents recycled on you.

-Yoink- manners! It’s the -Yoinking!- internet, what do you -Yoinking!- expect? People like you ruined game chat. Whiny little -Yoink-. It’s also sad that you have to like your own comments as well.

I’d feel more inclined to stay in game chat if people were less aggressive and more level-headed in matches, but that’s definitely asking for too much considering what the internet is full of attitude wise. I do still hop into game chat every now and then though, and if not that, I usually just invite anybody who asks to play to a party.

I’ve had more than enough instances where I’ve had to correct that one person who is screaming their mic apart, blaming every teammate in the roster for their own poor performance from the bottom of the scoreboard. It gets old.

People talk -Yoink- on the internet, that’s just how it is. Don’t like it? Mute them, use party chat, or get off, simple. Stop being a snowflake.
