For me, my criticism is that Infinite is hyped-up to be a multi-million dollar next-gen title from a company that’s spent almost half a decade developing it. Yet, after viewing the demo several times, I’ve concluded that I’m wholly disappointed. There’s little to no texture, no depth, no raytracing, and the cheesy cartoonish graphics just make it seem like Mega Blocks/Legos.

Keep in mind it has been said this campaign footage is of an earlier release and is not the same as the game in development in current time. Also even if this was the game in current time there is still plenty of time to polish the games rendering, textures, graphics, and etc. All of that stuff can be done in a months time more or less. They still have a few months to work out any kinks in the game-play, and then they will polish the visuals to perfection.
Agreed. I’m thinking this demo was ready to go for E3, so in order to get a demo set up for a June release, it must be a build from April/ May giving them 7-8 months to add a fair amount of polish before the official launch. I’d rather them polish the graphics, which I imagine is easier, compared to the amount of work it requires to makes changes to the gameplay and story.
However, for the more casual players/ fans I can see why they are getting triggered by this since the hype of the budget, new console, and trailer last year sets high expectations for graphics. 343 should have put “Work in Progress” or a build date in there after noticing some of the graphical pop-ins in the demo to reduce concerns.
My thoughts, if it even matters
As a long time fan since playing Halo 2 on the original Xbox, I feel like they are hitting the right marks gameplay and story-wise. Each Halo has had its own quirks and that’s fine as long as its still quality.
The gameplay looks fluid, even with an entirely new engine (hard to do mind you). The character design screams Halo. The new guns look and sound appropriate for their factions, let’s see how they feel though (looking at you concussion rifle and any new rendition of the plasma rifle). They are bringing back that sense of wonder of exploring the Halos/ Ark/ Sheild worlds, which is one of the reasons why Delta Halo/ the Ark continues to be some of my all-time favorite missions. Its theme on Hope is perfect for Halo, which makes me happy that they are making the Marines relevant and fun again because they were always optimistic when you show up making you feel awesome and connected with humanity. Those are the intangibles of Halo to me personally.
As long as they do not have a Halo 4 multiplayer or Halo 5 story/ campaign, I’ll be happy. Maybe have a toggle for the grapple and sprint, like a classic halo multiplayer playlist and most people should be happy gameplay-wise.
