… No.

I for once am excited to see what else 343 has in store for Infinite. The addition of the Banished opens up a huge variety for potential vehicle sandbox as well as mini bosses. Yeah sure, the game needs some work texture wise and I’m not sure how I feel about some of the new unsc weapons. (I’m sure I’ll grow to like them)

Also RIP Plasma Rifle. You will be missed.
(If you have been replaced that is.)

No hate at all, I love Halo! Loved every Halo except for 5 and have been waiting patiently for a new Halo game for years. That said, a lot has been made of this new slip space engine and how it would allow the developers to realize their vision for Halo. A lot has also been made of the Series X and it’s 12 TFLOP’s of GPU power and how this slipspace engine was made to take advantage of that added power. What I saw today wasn’t all that impressive, I’m sorry but that’s just the truth. Art style is good, gameplay looked decent but the visual fidelity was lack luster. It looked like stuff I’m currently running on my Xbox One X. In fact I’d go as far as to say Doom Eternal on my One X looks better than what I saw today. I don’t hate them, this is just a video game but I was disappointed in what I saw.

I have also more than two decades of gaming experience, yet I strongly disagree with everything you said
and will wait until final gameplay will be shown before I’ll even think about the story, the difficulty or “stupid, yelling enemies”
(which have been part of Halo games since 2001, but who cares).

I want to give a detailed response to the reveal trailer and I want to give constructive criticism so bear with me. first I’ll talk about the things I like then things I believe can be improved upon. I’ve been here since the ce days I’ve played halo ce and 2 on pc and I waited years for them to bring halo 3 and halo 2 anniversary to pc. they did a great job on all those games and halo 2 anniversary is my favorite halo game by far. so take what I say with a grain of salt
what looks good:
graphics
art style
gunplay
classic elites
classic jackals
semi classic grunts
that warthog tho

now the things I think can be improved upon
hit markers
vaulting
weapons
dual wielding
hit markers should be a ui optional option that ca be turn off
I am under the belief that sprinting is fine its especially valid in an open world game. but I do think vaulting is not. if you have a grappling hook I see no need to vault like every other generic fps shooter
when it comes to the weapons I only saw one classic weapon out of all the weapons picked up. the reach assault rifle.
in my honest opinion out of all the halo games the halo ma5d was the best made halo rifle. and it should be a weapon in the game. the way I see it if you want to make both groups happy. have all the weapons from every game be there. but most classic fans want these weapons. classic covenant and unsc weapons. all of them. classic needler, plasma pistol, plasma rifle, carbine rifle. the shot gun the magnum the smgs sniper rifle ect. and I think the most important thing of all Is dual wielding. to not have dual wielding since halo 3 as a feature is a complete disgrace. that feature has been one of the best features the halo franchise had. I dont see evidence that it is not in the game but if it isn’t it really needs to be. continue the good work. do right by the halo fans of old. please add these classic weapons and dual wielding. everything else I’ve mentioned is secondary to those.

STOP it. The criticism is valid for what they showed us. Stop defending them. Just stop it. The game is in an awful state.

> That might be because of the numerous divides in the Halo community on “what makes Halo Halo”. I’m pretty pleased with what I saw and I’d like to think I’m part of the community.

classic halo 2 I believe was the strongest campaign halo. and halo 3 has the best multiplayer. those are by far the best examples of what made halo halo

After watching the stream and then re-watching it as a video I think there are a couple of takeaways. The game is still in progress and that corona has taken a slight toll on the development of the demo version. The second is in response to the sound. The AR is slightly less aggressive than the Halo CE or Halo 2 variants and has a similar design to the reach AR. I hope 343 can take a look at making that sound a little more open in terms of firing. The other part of the sound characteristic is the Warthog. I love that they had a little bit of backfire but I think that they need to add in a deeper hum when the vehicle continues to increase in speed. IE Halo 3 Warthog but less than the Halo 4 Warthog. Third note, the sound from the music in the background is perfect. I has a dynamic movement that fits the scenes. Fourth, I hope that we start seeing more information about the game-play and multiplayer. I had the fun chance to play Halo 3 in Alpha and in Beta. The final product does not fall that far from the tree. The minor details changed like splattering people moving at 300% speed and such but I think that the dev team needs to get a multiplayer version out to the people ASAP.

The best curative work is when the community feels listened to but that doesn’t mean that you are actually taking the inputs that we suggest creatively. By allowing people to play the multiplayer they get to be apart of the team through making the game better. Unknowns about a game are a great part of building the hype for a game, but to sustain the excitement and crescendo into the drop is something different. ALL IN ALL, (sorry for the long post) I know that the team at 343 is working hard to bring a game that shows the pride in halo, but with so much riding on the game do not forget to listen to the fans that made it great.

> saying something is bad/trash and not giving an explanation why you think so and not saying what you think would make it better or work for you is not valid criticism. I don’t about you but most of the negative feedback i have seen is from people that have no intention of explaining what would make it work for them. They just say “Ihate it” and then leave.

What we dislike is that 343 said they would offer things for both long time fans and new-comers, then show us they went full advanced mobility with a grappling hook, sprint built in instead of an armor ability and decided to show the world new more generic looking weapons instead of the ones halo fans fell in love with, the soundtrack is good, the animations are good, textures look too clean and smooth, unfinished if you will. The game was supposed to convince people to buy the new console and instead, because it was not ready to be shown, it looked like something id play on my current console. To me it looked like it plays like Call Of Duty, not Halo. older fans of the series complain about enhanced mobility because every fps has that now. Classic Halo has something special to offer that can be more hectic at times than the fast paced shooters of today. What classic halo had was a strategic shooter where every encounter had to be thought through. you could not sprint away or dash or grapple. You had to make do with what you had and it made the game feel special. Looking at the game play for infinite. It personally does not feel Special like the classic games did. nostalgia can only drive a car so far before it runs out of fuel and stops moving. I appreciate the classic elites and classic inspired brutes and chief armor but at the end of the day whether it looks classic or not, fans will notice if it FEELS classic/a mix/ modern/ or Call Of Duty. Take this criticism as you will. my final judgement will of course be after i play the game. maybe ill change my mind. maybe they will alter some aspects. I think they could simply do what Halo MCC did with the skin customization and for campaign have an option where you can play with advanced mobility or turn it off( with the exception of the grappling hook as it would appear necessary for level completion). Anyway that is my genuine criticism.

The truth is neither of these:

 1. 343i is the best and most benevolent developer in history and makes nothing but amazing, wonderful magic. They know what is best and ignore the feedback of bitter clingers to outdated and archaic old mechanics from the Bungie Era. If you don’t like the beautiful gifts that they create so benevolently for to spend your hard earned dollars on, you are simply closed-minded and wrong.

 2. 343i takes pleasure in stomping on people’s hopes and dreams and murdering joy. They know how to make a good Halo game and consistently refuse to do it, even though it’s so incredibly obvious that anyone could make a perfect Halo game if they just listened to a very small vocal minority of forum-goers. If you ever come to their defense or enjoy any aspect of a product they put out, you are an absolute shill.

The truth is: 343i has always tried to do the best they could with the series. It’s obvious that at least to the majority of the gaming industry, they’ve failed to keep the series as prestigious and well-regarded as it was in the Bungie days. They’re still trying, and they deserve some credit for that, but good intentions don’t deserve unilateral praise when the result of them isn’t up to par- constructive criticism is extremely important. They’re not making Halo: Infinite simply out of the goodness of their hearts, it’s their job. But, it is a job many of them pour their hearts and souls into, so being flat-out rude and mean when criticizing them isn’t productive at all.

That’s why I don’t understand entire threads built around the idea of praising and thanking OR hating and yelling at 343i. Neither of these attitudes is useful.

HaloCE to me remains the best in the series and by quite a margin. Not completely but largely due to how combat feel decidedly better than any of the sequels. And the showing of Infinite left me thinking 343 must have worked very hard to replicate a similar sense of weight from their combat. There’s a lot to like in how this new combat engine works and credit is due. I’ve often wondered why it has been so difficult in all that time to recreate this most important aspect which has always felt like a former version of itself. Today I witnessed what appears a very good understanding of HaloCE’s combat feel. It’s looking very promising. Well done guys

A valid criticism is that visually the game looks current gen. As I mentioned before I find Doom Eternal on my Xbox One X looks better than what 343i showed us today. Like I said before, they made a big deal about the slip space engine and how it was custom made to help the developers realize their vision and also went on about the Series X’s 12 TFLOP’s of GPU power. So when they show something that is as visually underwhelming as what they showed, criticism is appropriate.

There has been complete radio silence on this game for years now, this was supposed to be a next gen showcase and something to get excited about. This was Microsoft’s and 343i’s opportunity to impress us, even blow us all away if they could. What they showed didn’t do that.

So im on the side of “this game looks terrible.” Seems to me like 343 has bitten off more than it can chew again and settled on mediocrity.

This article explains alot for me.

Please, speak for yourself with statements like these in bold.
I for myself have been very much impressed, as have been others.
And your not in any position to say that we’re wrongfully impressed.
I’ll simply advise to read some interviews on IGN and videogameschronicle, they are very insightful.
Among a lot of other things, two officials from 343i confirmed that the demo hasn’t shown the final release build
and that they are still actively working on H:I and will keep working on it post-release.

Criticism is always welcome in a constructive and civilised manner,
but people really need to do some research and get they’re facts right before they critisize.

A lot of the frustration comes from the plethora of passionate fans who have expressed their feeling for a classic Halo with no sprint, with the only return being crickets from 343.Infinite is the fourth Halo title to include sprint, and it is very disappointing to see.

I do speak for myself! I never once made the claim that I represent anyone other than myself, but I’ve done enough reading to know that I’m certainly not alone in my opinion.
My criticism has been civil and I’m absolutely in a position to be unimpressed, because they didn’t impress me and many others from the looks of it.

While I’m sure there is still much work to do on HI we’re really only 4 months away from the launch. I certainly don’t think doubting that there will be much improvement on the visual front is an unreasonable position and I"m not really all that interested in hearing the developers excuses as to why it didn’t look any better than current generation games.

I have game pass ultimate, so it’s not like I’ve got to buy the game outright before giving it a good try. So I’ll try it anyway, but yeah I’m definitely disappointed by what I saw today. If you feel differently, that’s great.

The way I see it is that 343 has continually shown a track record of showing us info that will not over-show us anything. They seem to be in a constant state of showing us rather old, older, or not new info to prevent over-hype like what happened with Halo 5. So, the demo we were shown is probably rather outdated and graphically does not show what the final product will.

As far as movement, sprint was a must in an Open-World game. The base speed was lowered to give greater variety of speed to the player to better aid them tactically. The grapple was not needed but was a fresh addition that would likely be entertaining and unique with mechanics such as grappling a tank and then chucking it at someone. And clamber was needed to make the grapple feel more fluid and natural. Imagine trying to use the grapple twice, but each time you hit the wall and slide down. Until you have to wait for 2 minutes to recharge it. Pretty annoying right? So clamber was added to prevent annoying issues such as this.

For art-style, the elites look the best that I have seen them in a long time, showing balance and grace while still showing a malicious nature that I felt was missing in the Halo 2 anniversary elite. The grunts look like a perfect hybrid between the scaly and bulky H4/5 version and the thinner H1/2/3 version. The Jackal looked…well…like a retro Jackal. And the Banished Brutes looked great as always. The Warthog had a 343 body and turret shield, but had a classic turret barrel that I loved. And of course, the awesome pelican that looks JUST like the Halo 2 Anniversary pelican. While the weapons have a hybrid design that is rather interesting.

Overall, excited for the final product. So try not to burn it too bad when its just a demo.

Why try and put lipstick on a pig? A good story for Halo right now is better and more important than trying to salvage H5’s story. I imagine we’ll get a good resolution of the Cortana/ Guardian storyline, and a half baked resolution of Osiris and Blue Team.

That’s worth it if the game actually plays as cool as it looks.

You’re a sad human being. “Corporate apologist” how about you recognize people are behind this game. Real people that try their hardest and give it their all. They deserve praise and recognition. You’re just an -Yoink-.
