To all Halo Veterans

To all Halo players who have been with the series since, at least, H2:
Has the general attitude towards a single Halo title ever been as bad as it seems for H5? It seems to me that A LOT of people are genuinely disappointed with this game. A scroll through any forum topic shows the general attitude towards H5. The vast majority of posts I read are people complaining about one thing or another.

Has it ever been as bad as this? And what are the reasons for this backlash?

I think it was definitely worse here for H4 than H5. I wouldn’t say a lot more, but I wouldn’t say a little more either.

Every game after H1 has had its fair share of hate. For example:
-Tons of people hated H2. There was even a website created called halo2sucks.com.
-HR got tons of hate on Bungie and for many of the same reasons. Armor lock especially pissed people off.
-When H4 came out, people raged for months. Some threads got huge and there were tons of lists of problems and changes that people wanted. I won’t hesitate to admit that I partook.

Backlash comes with each release. People get over it eventually.

While I think Halo 5 is one of the weaker games in the series I will say this, every Halo since H2 has had massive lashback.

Honestly I quite like Halo 5. I can really appreciate the game play mostly. It reminds me of the Classic halos but with that fast pace modern shooter feel. Just sprint and thrusters, everyone starts out with the same weapons no armor abilities or perks that can give you an advantage. It’s pretty solid and 343 nail what I feel Bungie tried to with Halo Reach.

My only real dislikes with the game is how the plot in the campaign is kinda un clear and not directed and written vary well. Plus lack of Master Chief but instead 343 force feed us Lock.

Although the campaign missions and adventures were pretty cool I enjoined seeing the Elites home world which was always something I’ve wanted to see since I became so interested with them back during Halo 2. But still not on the band wagon with the new Elites design

Not to mention the lack of content kinda bummer. No big team slayer maps or any actual maps at that. Just arena maps which all sorta feel and play the same. Multiplayer mostly forge maps which are cool still. But I love a nice beautiful map to look at and show me more places in the Halo Univers. Also lack of play lists but I’m happy to get Infection back. Can’t wait for the community maps for that.

H5’s backlash is very unique and much more pronounced than that of any other game. The lack of split screen, locking of features behind XBLive, missing playlists, and broken servers didn’t plague any of the previous games significantly. However, H5 has set a new low in the franchise and people didn’t hesitate to vote with their wallet. H5’s sales are not even comparable to H4’s and the population count hasn’t been brag-worthy either. H5 has been a serious disappointment to most veterans.

Reach was the worst in terms of community backlash imo, but the community has hated every halo since 2 was announced. At least with H5 about half the concerns are valid ones as opposed to the constant sprint threads.

No, it hasn’t.

Yes, every Halo game has had critics. Any game ever made will always have critics.
Yes, Halo2sucks.com existed.

No, the backlash towards new titles wasn’t this bad in the original trilogy.

Halo 3 ODST had a lot of hate for being an over priced game that should have been DLC. I for one thought it could have used a longer and more interesting campaign like Halo 4’s was.

H5 made more money than H4 opening. That is a verifiable fact. We do not know how many units were sold, so any claim using this data is an assumption. If you were here in 2012/early 2013, you’ll remember how bad H4 was received. I’ll also add that it performed much worse as well. It dropped put of the top 10 in months and its population retention paled in comparison to H3 and HR.

I just don’t get why people think it was such a bad game. I think there are things that could be better with it but it wasn’t absolutely horrible.

I don’t agree with the halo reach part.

Honestly, all you guys care about is the multiplayer. Did you ever think about how much fun it was to do the campaigns on legendary with all skulls on ( that’s if you unlocked all of them). Halo 4 and halo 5 were terrible yes, but HR, H2, and H3 were great.

Halo reach and halo 4 were the worse

Exactly. Halo 4’s a frigging classic in the eyes of a lot of people now - pretty it up, stick in in 1080p 60fps and people suddenly realize that the ability to run a little faster doesn’t ruin an entire damn game. Ridiculous.

People are even saying that Halo 5 ruined 4’s legacy.

Congratulations. But the hate was there agree or not.

Obviously we all agree things could be better in every game we touch. But honestly I think this was 100x better than MCC and hope it continues to get better only with time so far I am enjoying it still and doubt ill switch games unless for some reason something happened to H5

He is correct, the armor lock threads, the jetpack threads, the bloom threads, the sprint threads. Reach was hated. It had a higher ‘hate value’ for lack of a better term than any of the other halos imo. The majority of the people on here are the reach kids grown up, that is why people opinions ‘seem’ different now.

I’ve been observing the forums for quite some time now. I will agree that Halo 5 has received a ton of flak for one reason or another. However, I believe Halo 4 received the most backlash. The biggest common complaint amongst old school fans were the addition of load-outs and customization. Many felt as if 343 were trying to make the game more like Call of Duty, to which I agree with them. This does not mean I didn’t enjoy Halo 4, quite the contrary. It was actually my favorite game in the series up until that point. So, If you were to ask me, I’d say Halo 4.

Still see a lot of sprint threads…

It will never be the same.:frowning:
