To 343: Remember This

Thats just the thing. IT SHOULDNT HAPPEN AT ALL

Holy cripe, no I wasn’t. The links that were provided attempted to prove that 343i stated that what we’ve got currently is everything that we’ll get at release. That’s still clear as mud.

September 30th to October 6th was the Flight. Consider that a Closed Beta.

It’s already been stated that there will be a Day 1 patch for the Multiplayer on December 8th from data gathered during this beta. Yes, this is a beta.

That’s what the delay was for. How many years do we need to give them to understand slayer should be included day 1?
Ske7ch isn’t even sure when it will be added, whether it will be vanilla slayer or not. They are taking their time making sure OBJ game types don’t become unhealthy because of slayer, even though they are already unhealthy because of the horrible challenge system. I don’t even like slayer, my favorite game mode is Infection.

I agree, people should stop talking and just enjoy everything a little more.

If you don’t, put it down and move on.

You do realize that they tried to force the challenge-only progression system on us on day one of the multiplayer’s launch right? Do you actually think that it was a good idea? It wasn’t until people complained about it to 343 that they made the change to allow the first seven games of the day to reward a reasonable amount of xp, allowing players to level up once per day.

You see, this is what feedback is like, it’s never easy but it’s necessary to get the changes we want. I will grant you, for some of the changes (such as the playlists), it can take some time. But people want it, so that’s what they have to deliver.

And the thing about feedback is that it has to be continuous and come from a consensus from a large group people (the fans). If you don’t do that, then companies like 343 and Microsoft will not listen and assume the game is good as is, which is unacceptable.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge halo fan, I’ve played every single Halo game since Halo 3 (and that includes Fireteam Raven). The core gameplay is great, and the art style is exactly the kind of direction that fans have been wanting. But we shouldn’t be complacent with a game that has good gameplay, but a crippling progression system and prohibitive monetization strategy. As a gamer with a low budget, why shouldn’t I want the shop items to be cheap? Why shouldn’t I want the progression system to be flexible?

If 343’s strategy is to draw in both old and new players, they should be implementing these changes so that everyone is happy. So, don’t tell me that they’re listening because they say so. They’re listening because we make them, with the blunt reviews and the lists of things we want to see in the game. That’s how feedback works.

If you want to have 343 make changes to the game, then I would suggest you write them in a clear and concise manner on one of these forums. If you don’t, then I assume that you’re okay with the game as is. And is that really the message that we want spreading?

The issue here, is the messaging. You can argue the semantics of a beta and a soft release until the cows come home. This will never change peoples perception that this wasn’t a beta, because there was a working store and paid battle pass. This is seriously blurring the lines to consumers. If it’s a beta, post Beta on the main page and loading screen in huge letters, remove the store and if you need to test the store, set a side a beta progression system using credits to make players understand. As soon as you charge people it is no longer a beta in most peoples eyes and they will feel lied to.

As soon as you charge people it is no longer a beta no matter what you say in press releases, it is a product in the wild.

What’s really funny is, if you think back to the flights for H:I, they had a beta test of the storefront. They gave us 3000 credits and allowed us to spend them in a few items in the temporary store.

Every time they announce a new game they apologize for the last, claim to have learned from their mistakes and the next one is going back to the roots. Every time it’s bs.

And that’s a “them” problem. 343i stated that this was a Beta. 343i also stated that all of our progress would carry over to the full release; indicating that this was not a Final Release product. If people jump to conclusions and shake their heads dizzy because whatever damn reason, that is no fault of the Crystal Clear messaging that we got as to what this is.

In the same breath, 343 said we aren’t getting any more MP content in terms of playlists or maps on 12/8. This is the final build, and it’s what we’re going to be stuck with on launch day. It’s an absolute disasterclass from 343, yet again.

This here is the problem. The standard for shooters and video games in general has decreased massively in recent years. Companies have been getting away with a hell of a lot they shouldn’t be able to because people keep giving them money. It may be the best shooter of the year, but that’s saying almost nothing. It’s not about 343i. It’s not even about Microsoft. The entire industry needs to be fixed before it’s too late.

Summary

Holy Cripe You actually Fecking were, Stop beign in Denial about it, you look like a clown.

go to the 34th comment on Dec 5th from PfenixFyre with the link about it proving you wrong, from this very thread. enjoy being proving Wrong…AGAIN.

The Flights were beta’s, this “Beta” is the full release and early access at best but calling it a beta would be completely dishonest,

trying to argue with you about whats directly infront of youre eyes and undeniable fact is like trying to argue with a brick wall, its actually crazy to see how Deluded you are.

It is a 343 problem. They are in charge of the marketing, if consumers have a skewed perception it is on 343. If you have allowed people to jump to conclusions and hijack your message, then your messaging wasn’t clear. You have influencers who will use your bad messaging against you, twisting it to gain themselves more influence and clout.

As a company marketing a product, you need to be clear, you need to expect your consumers to be soft headed numbskulls because the majority of them will be. They will not take the time to click the little icon that explains the Beta. They will not read instructions, and they will not take the time to research things themselves. They won’t check the game settings to see what they can change for their best experience. They will take the easy road and allow themselves to be influenced by the same people I mentioned above.

It is entirely possible to blame 343 for bad marketing and mixed messaging, while at the same time admit that the community is over reacting poorly to said mixed messaging.

Yeah just 90% of them… If you support or agree with their decision of cutting out a vast majority of classic features baked in to the game then you are the issue with the game in the fist place as an enabler. A color shouldn’t cost $5-$10 it’s insane… The game should have built upon the features of the classic games with skins, colors, armor, etc. Already there with a mix of common to legendary ranks for optional purchase… It shouldn’t be 2 shoulder pieces in 40 levels and a helmet at level 70, a chest piece at 80, Etc. 1 set of armor every season is stupid…

Infinite overall is an amazing experience, and some of the backlash I’ve seen and heard about is beyond ridiculous. However, there are quite a few glaring issues with this game, both in campaign and multiplayer, but mostly multiplayer, that have been brought up incessantly.

I agree with OP though in how 343 has handled the backlash. They can’t just say “aw, man, we just completely screwed up”, but they have to offer some kind of penance, and admit to mistakes. To me, it sounds a lot like excuses and how they designed the game in the first place, or adding this feature in that’s been in Halo forever will take a lot of time and effort because of how the game was made - I’ve heard this soo many times and am sick of it.
Change progression that’s awful? Well, that’s complicated to do and will take a lot of time because of how the game was designed
Be able to replay missions? Also complicated and will take a lot of time, because of how the game was designed
???

Just admit to mistakes, and stop acting like this backlash was unforeseen. Bungie even admitted they had to remove a third of Halo 2’s campaign because of development issues, and they admitted they lied to fans with the E3 demo.
