My biggest concern heading into Infinite was that there wouldn’t be enough incentive to continue playing after the “honeymoon phase” wore off. It’s safe to say that my concerns were justified.
I purchased the battle pass; I purchased (and completed) the campaign; I have nearly 50 hours played in multiplayer; For that time and money, as of right now, I have two options for my weapon coatings–Standard Issue or Warmaster’s Prize (unlocked in the campaign). In the same amount of time playing COD I would have unlocked dozens of weapon skins. I’ve earned only three armor coatings in that time, and two of them are an almost identical shade of blue that I can hardly differentiate from the included Cadet Blue. The current customization options are boring and uninspiring. I don’t feel rewarded for my time and money spent playing the game, and I know many feel the same way.
I’m not posting this to be negative. My hope is that 343 will accept this criticism and hopefully improve on what’s currently being offered. I’ve been playing Halo for 20 years. I love the franchise and I want nothing more than for Infinite to be a massive success. The gameplay is already brilliant, but 343 has to know that the love fest with the gameplay will wear off, and it’s things like rank & unlockables that keep people playing. Here are a few of my hopes/suggestions:
- There needs to be more unlockable items (armor coatings, weapon coatings, weapon charms, etc.) that can be earned simply by playing the game.
- Allow for all coatings & sockets to be applied to all armor cores.
- A “new item” indicator for newly unlocked items.
These suggestions are with the common goal in mind of making the game more rewarding to play. Right now the customization simply feels boring and completely restrictive. I really hope this changes or I do worry that people will lose interest and move on to other games that offer more incentive to play.
