Title Updates Revisited

Hi everyone!

I’ve been playing Halo Wars since it was released and I’ve been thinking recently about all the changes that have been made to the game through title updates. With the perspective of playing for 3 yrs now I decided many of the TU’s were very unnecessary. I’m going to list the ones I think were not needed; and at the bottom you can see an explanation of why.

Prophet’s land speed
Anders’ Hawk and Cryo upgrade costs
Warthogs
Ander’s research times
Self destructing bases
Arbiter rage damage
And finally:the cryo glitch

Prophet’s land speed: this caused Prophet to go from being the most popular covy leader to the least popular. I remember when me and other noobs would try to fight prophet with flamers, only to see him run away and regain his shield. Since the proper way to fight the Prophet is to make him turtle and defend early against hogs/brutes his speed was not that OP. Prophet goes UNUSED in high level 3v3 so that seems to be a good indicator that there is currently something wrong with him.

Anders’ Hawk and Cryo upgrade costs: in high level games hornets/hawks go unused. And considering air units get hard countered so well anyway, it seems silly that these would get nerfed. As for the cryo, it also goes un-upgraded in high level play. Making its’ upgrades cheaper doesn’t seem to make it OP.

Warthogs: Reducing their damage to heavy armor seems unnecessary. In UNSC vs UNSC ppl build hogs to neutralize hogs, and then tanks to neutralize tanks. And in covy vs UNSC wraiths aren’t a long-term unit anyway. And the 3 second build time increase is a joke unto itself. So when I would normally have 8 hogs I only have 7. Ooooo big F-ing deal.

Ander’s research times: This is a BULLSH!T advantage anyway. It’s bad enough she pays 450 for power-turret, she has to get it twice as fast??? By this logic Forge should build his supply pads twice as fast, and Cutter should build his bases twice as fast. This should have never been in the game to begin with, so reducing it from 50% to 25% is just a token fix. Either do the right thing and eliminate it or leave the broken Anders vs UNSC alone.

Self destructing bases: it’s a small thing to pine about, but I HATE it when nubs get points just because I’m done with my field armory etc. Collapsing buildings should only give points to the opponent if the buildings are significantly damaged, or if your base is currently under attack. (If you’re worried about some ppl collapsing everything right before you move in to knock them out, you could make it so if too many buildings are collapsed within a certain timeframe then it gives points to the opponent.)

Arbiter rage damage: Arby is so weak in 1v1 now. And the proper way to fight an Arby is to turtle, avoid him until you have the unit strength to beat him, and if all else fails use a D-bomb. It seems the additional 25% doesn’t change that. When the TU4 was undone for awhile I didn’t notice it being that significant of a problem. Just my opinion, I’m sure I’ll get plenty of disagreements.

And finally:the cryo glitch!!! I loved messing around with this!!! ODST at 4 minutes anyone? LOLz! I never found this glitch to be very impactful in high level play. (Someone please correct me if I’m wrong) I mean, geez you could see the F-ing cryo’d base through the fog of war! As soon as you saw someone’s base get frosty just go attack it!

I open myself to all arguments and disagreements…

Fixed.

I am going to say this as nicely as I can. If you were high level bold, you wouldn’t complain about anything.

The only things that need to be fixed in this game off the top of my head are the following.

  1. Prophet speed increase to regular leader speed, not how he was when the first game came out because that was OP, but not as slow as he is now (Slower than Brute/Arby)

  2. Chieftain Hammer needs to stun when its on a tank instead of stand there and be unresponsive.

  3. Suicide grunts glitchy

  4. Nerf arbiter a slightly more

  5. Fix canny glitching shields/infantry (especially hunters, because tanks can just steamroll them)

I don’t know why the Y ability glitch was never fixed (which was caused in Robot’s last update).

You seem to have missed the point dear sir. The focus is on the changes they have made, NOT what they should fix.

There’s about a dozen glitches and a dozen more unbalances that should be addressed.

That’s interesting though that u feel arby needs to be nerfed MORE. And ur an Arby player last I checked! lol

The arbiter can rage down entire armies with a leader power, the brute/prophet can’t do that with their leader powers which is why it isn’t balanced. At least the arby should be nerfed against Tanks/Heavy armor

Lol, he is a high level player and unlike some people he didnt need to boost to get there.

Wildarms are you implying some or any of the fine gentleman, on this most informative forum, have boosted? Or thought about boosting? Because in my opinion that just sounds preposterous.

You are insane if you think the cryo glitch didnt need to be fixed. It isn’t as simple as ‘see a base get frosty and go kill it’ because once the cryo comes down the base and everything on it is irrelevant because now you have permanent tech 4. Not to mention the anders might be cryoing a forge, not herself. Doing the cryo glitch I used to have max pop pt spartans with laser with adrenaline, reserves, supercryo, chain amp and dual launcher by 9:30. And in a ‘high level’ game anders would just go gauss and cryo the forge, which by all measure was better, Forge could be maxed PT in 8 flat.

As far as balancing anything it is always done with 1v1 in mind. Teams are meant to be casual more than competitive. just because something isn’t viable in teams doesn’t mean it should be nerfed or buffed if it affects 1v1. The true game type for RTS. PoR was TOO fast. Before the speed nerf you couldn’t use covenant except PoR because you wouldn’t be able to hit him without rage or vortex, in which he would just recall the moment you got him to low shields, then be back at your base in under 30 secs bc hes so freaking fast. Also you would never be able to leave your base. Limitz is right that he should be able to match the speed of an arbiter at least.

As far as someone getting points for your building deletions. Why do you care?
Points are irrelevant. The have no bearing on skill. The only thing it can do is let you know in 1v1 whether or not your opponent killed a rebel base or his own building. Which is only useful if you watch points. Because you can hear the building explode too its not a big deal.

Gauss def needed to be nerfed as well. You couldn’t counter the spam, and yeah 3 sec not that much but when you add reserves those things built really quick. So the spam is what had to go. I fondly remember being able to cryo and kill 7-8 canny tanks with only 20-25 gauss with 2 building every 20 secs, you could make 4 hogs on 2 base faster than a tank would finish. And that’s only if they still had their depots. It had to go.

I do miss that cryo glitch tho, It made 3v3 UA pretty fun
