I am not sure if this question has been asked before… how often does 343i plan on rolling out TU’s for the game? Using the BF3 update system as an example, I believe that they put one out at least every map pack. That is a frequency of roll outs that I would really like to see to keep the game fresh and try new things.
Will the monthly playlist updates be there as well?
Just wanted to say 343i Halo 4 looks FREAKING FANTASTIC!!! Keep up the good work!
Usually halo games get 1 TU. I don’t recall one for halo 3. But reach had one to introduce “classic” settings. Usually halo doesn’t need title updates because they balance everything out before launch. games like COD and battlefield release them to tweak weapons mostly. And as far as i can tell halo has never had a TU that has effected a weapons performance other then the TU in reach to grant the 3SK magnum in anniversary playlists.
> Yeah Razr I never thought of it that way… but yeah if you look at it that way Halo doesn’t necessarily need a lot of TUs.
the TU wasn’t needed in reach either. But bungie gave in to “competitive” demands and made up the TU. The playlists despite being classic maps and the settings asked for were low and did not last long. I hope 343 does not try to take the same route. Hopefully they learned from reach.

halo 3’s TU was when they added the white xp ranks for each individual playlist

Thanks for the refresher. My point still stands though in COD they roll out TU’s or “patches” to rebalance weapons. In battlefield most DLC is when TU’s are dropped and in most DLC (bar armored kill) bring new weapons to the plate.
Because maps are balanced and weapons are few in number so are easy to balance TU’s arn’t really needed unless they add a new feature.

I agree to some extent, although I think that Reach did need the TU. What they should have done is blanket apply the TU. Having some playlists with TU and other without was messy and confusing. If you’re going to apply a TU, have the courage of your convictions and apply it to everything. If it’s not good enough to be applied to everything, don’t apply it at all.
Hopefully we won’t see a TU at all, i.e. the game will be good enough.

I found the TU not needed. all the games features worked as bungie intended. Just players didn’t like bloom AL etc. so the TU in reach wasn’t needed…more like prefered. I believe they didn’t apply TU to everything because there were plenty of people that liked default reach and a minority didn’t. That wasn’t the issue more like a bunch of un needed playlists. They way they are organized on reach currently cuts down on the confusion almost entirely.
A TU is a slap in the face to the developer, basically, it means you failed at your job, that should have done correctly the first time around. I hope that dont do it all certainly if its to accomodate complainers who get beat with guns they dont know how to properly use.

Even developers know that no matter how much effort you put into the game, someone out there will find a way to break it.
It’s a slap to the face of the developer to do nothing about fixing it.
On Topic: It would be pretty frequent for them to roll out a TU every map pack. Heck, that’s 2 months each time.

Your being extremely narrow minded. At the minimum a TU was needed for MLG. There are people that play Halo Competitively, for real life cash. And having a broken luck based gameplay mechanic was horrible for competitive play.

Going by your logic, Call of Duty is a complete failure to the developers.
I’d have to disagree though, people will always find ways around things and ways to exploit things, no matter how much work and effort the developer puts into the game.
While TU might be helpfull for some, for me it is not. I usually enjoy the game the most straight from the box. After the first TU certain aspects I am used to are changed and it just messes me up.

Not only that, games like BF3 and COD are designed for multiple consoles. Where as, obviously, Halo 4 is Xbox exclusive. Most of the bugs/issues have been worked out because the developers can spend all their time perfecting one version.
Generally speaking, I don’t want to see more than 1-2 title updates MAX. I like leaving games where they are; I was quite disappointed with 343 considerably changing Reach’s mechanics two years AFTER the game was already released.

Never played a single game of call of duty, so I wouldnt know to use that as a benchmark. Reading enough about it though, makes me think that the game is failure mechanically. They allow modding dont they? Maybe some of you are miscomprehending what I am saying.
At Tu is proper to fix something that is seriously broken, like game crashing when a match starts or long loading times when a player drops out.
An improper TU is when you have to fix, change, buff, nerf, remove, or anything else to accommodate a small population of players who dont like elements of the game because it doesnt suit their model of what/how the game should be.
