Title Update Question.

Will any of the changes that are implemented in the Title Update by customizable by the pre-game gametype settings via GUI?
For example:

  • Sword Block: Enable / Disable / Unchanged
  • Bloom: 0% / 10% / 50% / 100% / Unchanged
  • Magnum Damage: Balanced / OP / Unchanged
  • Fall Damage: On / Off / Unchanged
  • Armor Lock Interference: Enabled / Disabled / Unchanged

If so, great! If not, why not? I would love to be able to change the settings on my own without having to search a huge array of gametypes, looking for the combination that may not exist…
Also, having the Unchanged option, and allowing the TU settings to be customized via GUI would allow assigning specific traits to different players. For example, Amor Lock Interference could be disabled for players in a KoTH Hill, or in Infection, Zombies could be given the ability to sword block, where The Living could not.

Whilst I am exceptionally excited about the Title Update, I think it would be so much better if we can alter settings ourselves.

You won’t be able to tweak the TU settings themselves, but you can download variants that have the settings so you can try them out in custom games.

343 (as of now) will be the only ones that can actually tweak the settings of the TU.

They said only by gametype. As for why your guess is probably as good as mine. Technical difficulty , time, resources, etc?

Frankie said it was because of the UI. It would be difficult to change the code. Something like that.

I’ll buy that.
It does sound like they will have a bunch of different variants to grab once they go live. So if you want to grab something for customs you should be able to get it, or at least something close.

Here is the actual quote from Frankie on this topic:

> […] The TU will NOT give users discrete control over specific granular elements, but you can simply save the new elements from Matchmade types and use them as a the basis for your own customs. It’s not ideal (adding a new UI layer was out of scope) but it won’t take more than ten minutes of browsing to get all the stuff you want/need. And we’ll constantly be populating Matchmaking lists with updated stuff.

Damn
I can’t see why ‘adding a new UI layer’ is out of scope though. Bungie have done it many times, it seems quite a simple task. For example, adding the super-shields option, and CTF settings that were not in original game-types. I am dissapoint…

The way Bungie did that, is how 343i are giving us gametypes to disable bloom in gametypes using the same program but an updated version.

Also, what 343i are adding is brand new, what Bungie added was using recycled items such as the Headhunter Skulls coming out below the scoring place on Halo Ball, that’s recycled.

You can do this already with the “Insane” gametypes. I was messing around with HaloChess & Hog Potato earlier.

I will be looking forward to some fun and innovative gametypes in the next 6 months.

whats that? turnoffable fall damage? yayayayayayay!!! forging will be so much nicer(especially with mancannons!) i have wanted this since day 1 of reach!

They said they could do it when they first announced the Title Update, however, Halo CE had Fall Damage so expect it to stay.

No they haven’t.

Do you even know what that statement means?

Well I wasn’t sure whether it meant actually adding a new Layer altogether, or adding the settings into the gametypes, via UI. A new UI layer is unnecessary, but adding the features as custom game settings seemed more towards what he was talking about. Am I mistaken?

Some clarification by an employee would be great right now…

The only way they could allow users to change these new settings in game would be to add a new user interface (UI) layer. Simply, this is because Bungie didn’t expect anyone to allow users to change these settings ever, and so didn’t include an option to change them in the base coding.

Just think of these updates the same as you do the Alpha Zombie update that Bungie made. You can’t make that gametype yourself - You need to download it.

I get that. I took that as a given. I just meant will the settings be hard coded (for example having forced Elites in elite slayer, you cant change that.), or will it be adjustable? (Example Alpha Zombies in the new infection)
