Title Update Discussion

  • I don’t think Realism should be used as an argument for Bloom, though that said, I like the concept of Bloom. It hasn’t been implemented extremely well, and I think the DMR should bloom slightly faster and bigger. Then, spamming the gun would not work at all, which is the only problem with it at the moment. Pacing your shots would be the only way to really be effective with it. Bloom shouldn’t be removed. It just needs a tweak. Maybe this would be a customisable thing in the TU, given that 343 have said they’re not going to make across-the-board changes.

  • Again, Realism shouldn’t be used as an argument for the Grenades currently. Halo is NOT a realism-orientated FPS, nor is it even an FPS in a realistic setting. It’s a fantasy FPS, so Realism should play as little a part as possible. For me, the fuse time needs to be upped by a second or two, and the Grenades need to be bouncier.

Halo intends to be real to ITS universe.
Halo: Reach is just slightly less real to its universe, with compromise to gameplay, as Battlefield is to our true universe, with compromise to gameplay. Because so, they require the most amount of skill to play. And I mean skill as a whole, not any 1 skill attribute.

Nothing would make fans madder than us announcing or teasing a feature that then had to be removed, so please be patient with us. I can say that I have tried a few elements of the TU and that I had a blast.

> On topic: I think what’s best for us to do everyone is just speculate and have fun with it, don’t get overly serious about the TU and trust 343i with what both sides of these arguments want. They’re listening, options options and more options, all I hear is talk about functionality and choose what you play, and I can’t be more excited.

We can only hope that we get options. 343 cannont afford to drop the ball with this TU. If certain things like the option for bloom to be turned off, REAL true skill, visible rank, increased movement speed, and faster kill times are not put in the game in some fashion many people will be dissapointed.

I can meet you part way and say while I agree bloom could be tweaked some that realism of weapons we know to be real is not so far fetched… The sniper certainly shows little realism being used as a shotgun… and yes is it a fantasy game… I bring that up often… I brought it up when someone wrote an article that spartans should die quicker as they do in COD… I said "Spartans are super humans wearing 1000 pounds of armor… and soldiers in COD are just regular guys wearing standard issue gear… Who should die faster ? Not the guy wearing 1000 pounds of armor ! " haha

Anyways… yah the bloom could be tweaked some… but I think the number 1 thing for alot of people is the ranking system… they want the numbers back… people need to realise grenades are explosives meant to kill… yeah a frag killing a spartan wearing 1000 lbs armor in one hit is a stretch… but more often we get killed with the spam of multiple grenades… at least i feel i do…

Nice to hear that Reach isn´t totally worthless :D.
I hope you get it right with the classic playlist and I wish you and the rest of the team much luck for this task.

I LOVE REACH

but there is one more thing that could be fixed with the ranking system… kill value… a person who has 15 kills ( and 16 deaths - thus making this person NEGATIVE 1 ) will have more point then a spartan that has 10 kills and 6 deaths !

15 kills ( 15 points ) minus 16 deaths ( only lose 1/3 a point per death ) EQUALS 15- 4.9 =10 points for this guy

10 kills ( 10 points ) minus 6 deaths ( 6 x .33 ) = 10 - 1.9 = 8 points

The bottom person more responsible for winning has less points…( or the top person more responsible for losing has more )

Deaths need to be .5 points instead of .33

> To Coca Mola above, I didn’t put my foot in my mouth - I was cross-posted from another forum with no context for the discussion. I was replying there, as I would here, to. Reach fan who was worried that the TU would eliminate the elements of Reach that he liked. It won’t. The TU will allow ‘classic’ gameplay to be played side by side with TU stuff

Frankie, if you happen to be still reading this, or check back in, or whatever…

I know you can’t talk much about Halo 4, but is the concept of “classic” gameplay existing alongside “new stuff” something that’s being looked at for Halo 4?

lolwut

Please don’t tell me that this means all the future Halo titles will play more like Reach than Halo CE/2/3. The numbers will tell you the facts: Halo 2 and Halo 3 were played a whole lot more than Halo Reach by a whole lot more people. Halo: Reach needs fixing. Just look at all the people getting behind the ‘no bloom in Halo 4’ and ‘no armor abilities in Halo 4’ movement on this very forum! The game has problems and it needs to be fixed. The features implemented in Reach (The voting system, Forge 2.0, customization, netcode etc) are phenomenal. But gameplay? The numbers tell the story.

Why would 343i not realize that Reach is the least popular Halo game for a reason other than other games?

‘Halo Reach is one of the best FPS games of all time.’

Yeah maybe if you’re not counting gameplay.

I hate change. They know what made Halo a success. Some new additions were okay but it has ruined the game after they try to take out the old or polish it.

If they know what made Halo a success bloom and armor abilities won’t be in Halo 4. I don’t recall armor lock in Halo 2.

Anyway…is it possible for them to fix the framerate of Reach so all custom maps arent so laggy?

yep, i used to love halos multiplayer, but then reach came along and did some pretty big changes. its not the same at all…

its like if the next smash bros gave us health bars, this is not what made me love the game!

All of these posts from 343i are confusing me more than they are being helpful, I’ll just wait for Halo fest.

Halo Reach needs some tweaking, but otherwise its not that much different then any other halo… The core mechanics are the same and are the main weapons… If everyone complaining about it being so horrible I sure dont see anyone playing the classic playlist that have no armor abilities… Most people are playing competitive which has armor abilities… Arena is always empty I feel becase of the ranking system…

The truth is if they keep Halo exactly the same most people will get bored… make small changes like they are… but its hard to make everyone happy all the time…

The way I see it is the DMR is pre-Halo Ce… so that means anyone who doesn’t like it wont have to worry because Halo 4 is after Halo 3… that means the ‘BR’ will be back in Halo 4…

Looks good.

Wow. 343 comes rolling in taking over a huge franchise and if they even had enough of a brain to realize they need to give a good impression to the community they would change some key problems in the game. I mean holy crap have they even played it and seen what’s wrong with it? No one likes seeing random 8 year olds playing the game going LOL ARMOR LOCK. Armor lock isn’t supposed to be usable as a power weapon -__- It should be used ONLY as a invincibility frame.

Halo: Reach is the most popular Halo game to date… Don’t make me bring my uberpost I made to quiet trolls.

So long as Halo 4 is more like Halo 3 than Reach and they don’t make too bad of decisions for gameplay, then I’ll agree.

Let me see this uberpost. I’d imagine it’s the least popular otherwise. And quit calling people trolls just because they think differently. It makes you seem childish.

I have played Halo Mulitplayer since H2 and I love Reach Mulitplayer, I’m a General grade 2 and was in the mid 30’s on H2 & 3.

I always pace my shots with the DMR in CQB and if it’s 1 v 1 I always come on top, b/c the spamming luck your talking about doesnt exist, at least not that I’ve seen.

Also on the armor lock issue, what playlist are you guys playing that you see AL so much? I barely ever see it and when I do people play against it sensebly. The only problem I’ve had is when I’m fighting one guy and he AL’s and his buddy has time to join the fight.

Alll in all I love playing Reach, if anything, the only thing I’d like to see added in a title update is more armor, I believe Bungie had said something around the time of launch that we could see more armor upgrades.

As for the next game the only thing I’d like to see change is the return of the SMG and DMR/BR combo where you can swap the freq of the fire, so everyone is happy!
