> I don’t see how those changes will make the game any more balanced. You said it yourself that AAs have to be completely removed in order to have a balanced competitive game.
>
> The fact of the matter is if you give people the option to choose different abilities off spawn encounters will become random because you can’t know which AA your opponent will have before an encounter and also some AAs may have advantages in certain situations compared to others. There’s no way to account for that.
You’re taking an all or nothing approach. I get it. Lots of fans are like that. I can appreciate the way you’re looking at this. The problem is, I can guarantee with 99% certainty that this all or nothing approach will not change a thing.
I’m making compromises with my post. Compromises, are more what game companies deal with post-release.
I really hope so. Look, we’ve all been there and back with Truskill in Reach. It doesn’t. -Yoinking!-. work. Except maybe in Arena ONLY, but I played a game in there recently and I kicked -Yoink- and took names, but the rest of my team did not, at all. My backpack was not big enough. You say one game isn’t enough for it to see my skill in TruSkill? Well, Team Slayer is similar to Arena, 4 v 4, yeah yeah…I’ve played hundreds in that, if they can’t intially transfer your Truskill from TS to Arena for the first couple matches then even Arena is broken with Truskill.
It is incredibly hard to get a challenge where winning X amount of games gives you the challenge. None of my friends play, I go in alone. I love to communicate, I spot and alert of power weapon spawns and vehicle spawns to my team with no mics or in a party. I think they listen sometimes, but their just so bad, and they don’t talk when I search for chatty.
Restriction for similiary skilled players either does A. Nothing, or B. Gets my -Yoink- kicked. It seems it’ll just search for people as good as me, and place them all on the other team, leaving me with randoms with don’t follow my pysche preferences and are terrible.
343i, please tell me it’s being worked on in the TU? Puh-lease?
Fix bloom
Fix bleed through
Fix grenade blast radius, damage, as well as physics
Fix melee lunge inconsistencies
Remove AAs from all playlists
Remove sword block
Make the Halo Anniversary maps good, most of the Reach maps feel like campaign spaces and the ones that don’t are ruined by AAs.
Increase default movement speed
Add more ammo to the pistol’s clip
Add ranking system, remove Arena
Fix theater to allow for party viewing. -Yoink- rewinding in campaign, almost nobody uses that.
Get rid of the new voting system, only give 1 option or veto. When you give people too many options, people will just quit the game if they don’t get the map they want.
I think it’s there but the restrictions are really loose, so it doesn’t have all that much of an effect. To be honest, it seems like social in Halo 3 works better than Reach, but maybe that’s because I have more games played.
I don’t think compromises would fix anything. If you have different AAs to choose off spawn you’re going to have the same problem. It doesn’t matter how much you balance them. If they have different strengths and weaknesses, the gameplay is still randomized.
> I don’t think compromises would fix anything. If you have different AAs to choose off spawn you’re going to have the same problem. It doesn’t matter how much you balance them. If they have different strengths and weaknesses, the gameplay is still randomized.
Well here’s the thing. Like I said, your all or nothing approach is that of a hardcore fan. I get it.
My compromises don’t fix your basic issue with the game’s fundamental balance, and that is the random nature of the AAs.
But AAs are not going anywhere. Like I said, I highly doubt 343 is going to remove them entirely from the game, or make them all pickups, or whatever. It seems incredibly unlikely that they’re going to take a complete U-turn on Bungie’s approach, it’s bad PR.
If the AAs are not going anywhere, which I can almost guarantee that they’re not, then surely applying my fixes, is still better than not applying them at all, and leaving them as is? It’s at least a little better, correct?
I’m afraid only Team Classic or MLG can remedy your basic issue with the random nature of AAs.
Not really. It’s hard to tell without playing whether the game would be better or worse with those changes, but either way it would still be a -Yoink- game.
> Not really. It’s hard to tell without playing whether the game would be better or worse with those changes, but either way it would still be a Yoink! game.
I’ll take 250lbs of -Yoink- instead of 500lbs of -Yoink-, regardless.
If you have such a problem with AAs, like I said there’s team Classic (which is pretty awesome) or Halo 3. They won’t change Reach to remove AAs I’m afraid, as much as I’d like them to. Thinking otherwise is just being very stubborn tbh.

> No we need to keep all armor abilities it makes this game even better. Thye all add a DiFerrent spice to the game
If by spice you mean they completely unbalance things, cause frustration, and are ridiculous, then yes they do.
I’ve been playing Halo since Halo: Combat Evolved and I can tell you right now that no Halo game has enraged me more than Halo Reach. It was not created for Halo fans it was created for Call of Duty fans. I hope 343i understands this and makes Halo 4 for us and not them. In the meantime let’s hope that they can fix some major issues with the game with their future title update. Things I would like to see are…
Lunge needs to return ASAP. I can’t stand running up to someone and hitting the melee button just for me to swing at the air. I’m a super soldier dang it I should be able to lunge at my enemy. Enhanced Strength + Mechanical Armor + Adrenaline = LUNGE.
I would like to see match making set up to where large parties are only teamed up with other large parties. I’m sick of being given a team of people who don’t play or commit suicide while the enemy team is made up of a group of friends who are well coordinated. It’s not even close to being fair.
Bloom needs some adjustment. A super soldier should be able to run and shoot while keeping his/her weapon steady. I get that weapons are less accurate when fired rapidly but the Bloom in Reach is ridiculous. If you stand 5 feet away from someone and pull the trigger a little too fast the bullets start flying around that person worse than the movie “Wanted”.
Armor lock needs to be removed from Matchmaking. It is by far the worst addition to a video game I have ever seen. I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to give someone the ability to go invincible anytime they wanted in a competitive game. They say it’s balanced because you can’t move but that’s such a lie. You can still stand up and punch someone while still technically invincible and that’s a bunch of crap. If it’s not removed from Reach than I hope it at least never returns in Halo 4.
Increase the assault rifle’s power. Right now it’s so pathetically weak you would have better luck tossing candy corn at people. It takes all 32 rounds at close range to deplete someones shields yet they can pop you 5 times with a pistol and manage to kill you. What a bunch of crap. I don’t care if the Pistol has a larger caliber bullet. Being hit with 32 7.62 mm rounds at 550 RPM should do more to a person than simply delete their shields.
I want to see it play more like H3, i would like better ranks to come back, i would like a bleed though melee system, i would like playlist xp again, i would like no bloom and a set fire rate
also i would like better maps and more maps that aren’t made from forge and i would like a party of 4 to watch theatre again.
Put Arena Ranks on your nameplate and get rid of armor lock and jet packs, also i think AAs should be pick up
Man, this forum’s quoting option is clunky; seeing a paragraphed post squished together with little breakline tags is not very nice (hopefully that’ll be sorted out with this Beta forum business).

Going to have to disagree with this one: lunge took away one of the great aspects of melees that has yet only existed in CE: skilled judgement of timing and distance. In 2, 3, and albeit to a lesser extent (but most certainly there), you can be preeeeetty far away and just hit that one button and you get to eliminate half your opponent’s health. More powerful than most guns, faster than successive headshots, very little aim required.
Every time I whiff a melee, I know it’s my fault - I’ve timed things poorly. And I’m appropriately left at a disadvantage for it (and it happens more than I’d like to admit). Every time I get some dude Dragon Ball Z-style meleeing me from ten feet away, it’s nothing but frustration.
Halo CE melees were perfect. They were a CQC finisher; it felt good when you finished an opponent with one. I remember running around Halo 2, on the other hand, not firing a single shot and still going >+10 because my lunge had more range than their bullets.

You know, that game still exists. And it has everything you just listed!
I’ll give you the theatre part: it simply isn’t any fun watching a film on your own, and it’s an awkward work-around to show off something to your friends.
Bloom, I’m still relatively undecided; it’s always been in Halo, to some extent, though I’ve never had it cost me so many fights or kills before than Reach. So many times I’ve been frustrated by an absolute inability to kill an opponent at a certain distance because my two options are either to let my bloom reset (in which case he’s behind cover) or keep shooting, which despite my marksmanship, will send bullets everywhere but him. I’m not sure what the good compromise is; I think I like it better than the Battle Rifle’s relatively skill-less ‘point and shoot as fast as the gun allows’ mechanic.
Static ranks are a poor ranking system, because they are static. Some 50s were better than other 50s - but not as far as the game was concerned. A variable percentile is a much better system, where one has to continually strive to be at/near the top - and no matter your skill, there’s somewhere to go. The Arena attempted this, but the execution…could have been better, to put it nicely.
Bleedthrough produced random results, just like DMR fights in Reach. Reach’s current shield mechanic is more predictable and is better for gameplay - the main complaints (double-melees being able to ‘negate’ damage by someone shooting them that doesn’t pop their shields) are all remedied by 75% melees, which works really well anyway.

Please 343i, fix the bloom, shooting in this game is really boring because of the added luck factor. Fix it or remove it.
Removing it would bring the straight foward experience that we had in the classics.
Replace bloom with recoil, add a set fire rate and make the kill time 2 seconds for the DMR/Pistol and 2.3 secs for the NR, or add the bloom system in the video.

I agree, I would do dirty dirty things for there to be no bloom and have Halo feel like Halo again. I really feel like they should revert back to H2 style of steady aim no spread, Games should come down to the ability to strategize, execute the strategy, and then be able to out shoot your opponent. Not outluck them.
For the argument that there’s always been bloom in Halo, not really. There’s always been a minor bullet spread within the base static reticule, which was kind of out of control in Halo 3, H2 in my opinion was the best system, spreadless, best shooter wins. If you can out shoot an opponent that’s a skill in my mind, and having a system like bloom really keeps me from being immersed in the game because you have to keep thinking about this bad mechanic.
