Title Update Discussion

Reach is an atrocity in the sector of multiplayer GAMEPLAY however A piece of art in virtually everythig else. Not only is it an Opinion, but it is a fact. But before I start giving you reasons, let me remind you of a couple of things explaining Reach’s supposed success.
The majority of Xbox players, will play anything Halo.

  • Why? because thanks to the greatness of the previous three, ODST and REACH get to stay alive thanks to the momentum. And because it is new, obviously that same dumb majority will flock to it. By greatness, I mean the constant population of 300 000+ H3 players for more than 3 years ! The popularity of Machinima, Top10’s, Bungie’s best selling map packs and XBL TOTAL DOMINATION, reach comes no where close to that with average 100k players even MW2 beat it etc.
  • Reach is good enough. people like its campaign (including me) and its graphics, other than that, they dont know any better and dont really give it much attention to the finer details that make up a great multiplayer experience.
  • The classic playlist wouldnt have ever worked, because it limits you in soo many ways. The maps are bland and ugly, the AR is sooo nooby and luck based, the same sketchy and tacky melee system is present, the grenade remain insane, and amongst many other reasons Bloom is still there to ruin the gameplay.
  • Reach only sold well, because of the AWESOMNESS Halo3 was and the only reason its multiplayer is doing even 70percent of Halo3’s is because the ignorant majority sees it as NEW HALO OMGZ! As the aware minority has moved on to better multiplayer games.
Now, before you start whining about it here are three of the million reasons Reach is a failiure multiplayer wise.
  • AA’s: OH DEAR LORD, ALL OF THEM, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Chaotic, no skill required and push the game to become nothing like halo, at this rate bungie should have added perks, killstreaks, aiming down the sight and classes. I mean really, AA slow the game down, if you are in any trouble, Sprint away or start LOLZING with a jetpack or even better STOP THE GAME FOR 10 seconds with AL and get your shield back in the meantime. And the worst part, YOU HAVE THEM ALLL GAME LONG. If they were like H2/3 powerups I would be fine but not the way it is now.
  • Blam! Ooops I mean Bloom:Can we all agree that bloom needs to -Yoink-? SPAMING Beats pacing, pacing can lead to luck or no luck, DMR’ing has become a casino, either you win or lose 50/50, barring some total noob at your feet. I mean EVEN if it did work, all it does is slow down the game and make it less fun, less “Halo”. Furthermore, it is no longer about aiming and shooting like EVERY game should be, its about taking longer to shoot and taking longer to kill because you have to pace some nonsence reticule and allow any fight, even 1v1 to take so long that any teammate or opponent can just come in and finish it off.Not even pros like it (Snipedown, top10 pros of all time):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd4syenDuSc
  • Thermonuclear grenades The mini-nukes or as Bungie calls them “Grenades” that are in halo reach. I mean WTFMF! How overpowered can they get. What was running through Bungie’s mind. Please, revert them to the old Halo2/3 days, nerfier, more balanced and hell of a lot funner.
  • Slow, less agile (jump height), less powerful Spartans. Sure, I get it Halo reach had Spartan 3’s, but spartans are spartans, they are super fast, super agile and super powerful. I am really tired of playing with a character that is a tiny bit more capable than an ODST. I remember the pride one gets when they first step into a Lean mean Spartan 2’s like in H2/3, feels great and the game is much more intense, fast pace and down right AWESOME that way.As for everything else, Reach nailed it (Maybe tru-skill should come back tho). Menu navigation, Challenges, campaign story, character customization (ELITES BACK TO H2/H3 DAYS), graphics, EVRYTHING GREAT!

In conclusion, I really hope 343i takes heed, it would not only make me happy, but also the community. And dont we all want to see Halo4 back to the Glory of Halo2/3, Machinimas, montages, MLG, 300000+ Gamers, XBL DOMINATION, CONSTANT FUN and a reason to avoid the girls, the sun and the sports.

agreed more like halo 3 and more colorful maps seriously

Sorry, but I would edit this. You say that it’s a fact that Halo: Reach is an abomination. I read on to see your definitive evidence. All I saw were a lot of opinions (grenades suck, armor abilities suck, so on, so forth) and charges that anyone who still plays Reach is ignorant. I would edit your post to take out the “I’m irrevocably right” attitude. Just my opinion.

As far as Reach goes, I do actually agree with much of this. Grenades are rather annoying (though this is mostly due to the slightly lowered movement speed - which, if not for the grenades, wouldn’t otherwise be a problem in my opinion). Some armor abilities need to be balanced, and some need to be removed. Bloom completely skews perception of how the DMR actually works.

Regardless, it’s still not fact that Reach was disappointing as far as multiplayer goes; it’s pure opinion. Lowered numbers indicate nothing except that three more Call of Duty games have come out since the release of Halo 3, and that that franchise is doing extremely well, while still building momentum. Halo is not “dying out” (100,000 per night is still doing quite well); it’s simply being outmarketed. Understandable under Call of Duty’s annual release circumstances.

>

first of all reaper, when i post you have to expect im talking about serious competitive play against people who are at least a bit above average. i think this would clear up a lot of confusion.

> Let me highlight the section that shows me you have very little gaming experience: “**i never had to do this crap in other halo games!”**To you, a game is built without limitations and the systems themselves are perfect as there is no need to go beyond 10 year old technology to achieve perfection.

to me, halo has always been a game built on GOOD core game mechanics, not gimmicky ones. i have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say with ‘go beyond 10 year old technology to achieve perfection’, nor do i have any idea where you got the idea that i dont think new technology is good, or usable, or optimal; when clearly it is.

> Your ability to adapt would make a Spartan proud.

your sarcasm is noted. the problem is, however, i HAVE adapted to the game.

the following adaptations have been made:
-if you can spawn with armor lock, never get into melee battles where AL wins 100% of the time unless you are using AL, or evade.
-grenades are mini nukes.
-1v1 DMR battles dont go to the person who shoots better 100% of the time, so avoid them.
-armor locks duration lasts so ungodly long the very best thing to do when get someone to no shields only to have them armor lock, is to simply run away and find someone else who hopefully doesnt have armor lock.
-when jet pack can be picked, map control is thrown out the window. in previous halo games you had to be aware of the map geometry, and the height above the map that you can jump also (along with some extra spots). in halo reach, however, you have to not only be aware of people that are actually on the map or slightly above it, you also have to be aware of the ability for people to fly literally 100 feet ABOVE the map whenever they want to. this is especially problematic because when people fly straight up, much of the cover and line of sight blockers are eliminated so they can easily clean up weakened targets (or just get the first 2 shots then fly over to them and shoot them if they try to return fire if you are good with jet pack). jet pack is actually so god-tier incredible, i can use it using BUMPER JUMPER (holding the controller in the most -Yoink!- manner) and fly to the important spots, then just chill up there and get kills.

> I’ll also point out what I wrote: "But of course, that’s only when it’s called for. I’m just suggesting the above against organized teams that use the diversity available to them, a bit less “me be the killer” and a bit more “get’em pa!.” And your response to was to take the suggestion as is and “use it 100% of the time.”

i didnt even know what you were talking about with this statement. try using the topic instead of saying ‘its’ then expecting people to somehow magically understand which noun you were talking about. how was i supposed to know what you were referencing when you used that word??

> What’s funny about your response is that the opposite to my suggestion would hold true to you accusation. If TS is 90% jetpack, you should have 2-3 players with their sound on and looking to the skies while the 1 to 2 other players look to the ground/forward.

the % of jet packers compared to the number of people you have on your team to anti-jetpack is irrelevant. 2 people can easily take control of the sky. if more people are looking at the sky than on the ground, a single person with grenades will easily wipe them out because they are too busy removing the sky from gimmicks.

> It has nothing to do with what’s fun (because that’s what customs are for), it’s doing what wins (after all, that is one of your supports of using button-combos).

so what you are saying is, you realize having to combat people using jet pack / armor lock isnt fun. but since i say button combos are good because you should ‘do what wins, not whats fun’, jet pack / armor lock are ok? LMAO!

my logic behind button combos is that they took skill to use, and added depth and skill gap to the game (especially the double shot, but the other ones did too, to some extent). my logic behind the double shot being good for halo was that it was a high risk vs reward thing that you had to ACTUALLY PRACTICE TO LEARN TO USE CONSISTENTLY. then, when you did learn it and pull it off, it was highly rewarding to yourself as a player because you could see how much you have progressed, and feel good about learning something so hard to pull off.

you cant just press 1 button to double shot whenever you wanted to. compare that to armor lock and jet pack. one single button that any 10 year old child can press for overpowered, gimmick inducing effects.

i think its pretty laughable that you would even compare things like the double shot to armor lock and jet pack in the first place.

> LWs

no idea what an LW is. yet again you just expect people to know what you are talking about without explaining yourself.

> He said it is useless. Not only did I prove that Hologram is not useless, but I’ve proven you both don’t have the imagination to use a distracting tool that absorbs minor damage effectively. I don’t use Hologram, if at all, ever (maybe once or twice I have). Just because I don’t use it doesn’t mean it sucks. That is very childish thinking.

you are right, the hologram isnt useless when its the only armor ability to choose from. the entire point that i was trying to make is that when you CAN pick another AA, hologram is useless. its not even remotely hard to tell whats a hologram and what isnt. against good players, even the best hologram user in the world will only trick them MAYBE 2-3 times / game. compare this to losing every single race to power weapons and controlling the power weapon areas with sprint (oh, and you can just run away if the hologram person gets the advantage), destroying map control at the press of a button with jet pack, invincibility for long enough for your teammates to save you almost always, or evade (nuff said).

hologram is nice, and it has its uses, but compare it to other AAs and its EASILY THE WORST ONE. that would be my definition of being ‘useless’.

> [regarding armor lock] what reaper means here is, get a headshot with the sniper, or you are SOL. it is basically impossible to kill someone who is EVEN REMOTELY good with armor lock when they know to stick next to their team, and have teammates who arent horrible.

> Ya, if your LWing and playing on a team that isn’t playing as a team vs a team that is (those are funny to write). Of course you’ll get your Yoink! handed to you if you play Halo: Reach exactly like a previous Halo (no regard for your ROF).

im assuming LW’ing means being a 1 man army and not using teamwork. its cute that you would bring up teamwork in the case of armor lock, when a team of armor lockers is literally the most god-tier setup (aside from maybe a team of evaders who are all amazing at using it). effectively what this means is, your example of using teamwork doesnt even take into account the fact that the other team can have more armor lock users as well, making armor lock MORE PROBLEMATIC.

would a team of 4 AMAZING hologram users beat a team of 4 above average armor lock users EVEN ONCE out of 100 times playing? i really doubt it.

in a gametype that doesnt have evade on a non-big team map, a team of 4 armor lockers will decimate a team of 4 of any other AA, WITH EASE provided that they stay kinda close to one another, arent terrible, and can call things out like ‘on me’ within 3 seconds of getting into trouble so his teammates can come save him.

also, what the heck does rate of fire have to do with armor lock?!

> I suggest diversifying situational awareness, you suggest removing it.

when did i suggest this? are you referring to jet pack? because that is BEYOND unreasonable for situational awareness (look on the map, then also be aware of the area 75 feet above the map too! AT THE SAME TIME)

> I suggest working as a team, you suggest that 4 lonewolves don’t have to work as a team (and then turn around and consider the teamplayers as skill-less and will boast the LWs’ skills to their graves).

when did i suggest against the use of team work? quote me plz. when did i consider team playing skill-less? ARMOR LOCK is skill-less, not team playing. it doesnt take even the slightest bit of skill to come and save someone who is invincible, especially when this invincible person has already weakened his opponent.

> I suggest there are no limits in a balanced sandbox, you suggest that a balanced sandbox quickly reveals its limits

again, when did you suggest this? and when did i say ‘a balanced sandbox quickly reveals its limits’

feel free to quote me to actually back up your claims.

What sort of things would you like to see after 343i takes control?

I personaly want the removeal of AAs(inclueding sprint) and make the expearence more like halo 1,2, and 3. ow… yah and a ranking system that takes skill like halo 3 or halo 2

> and a ranking system that takes skill like halo 3 or halo 2

Agreed. This new one is too much like call of duty. The only difference? Credits instead of xp. Bring back 1-50 or something similar.

True. That’s one of the things I hate about MM.

> I think many people would be satisfied, including me, if a classic playlist in Reach would play similiar like this:

OMG DO IT!!!

> A) There’s nothing to fix
>
> and
>
> B) If you ever actually took the time to read Bungie’s messages (BWU), then you would know that they’ve been working on a major multiplayer update for quite some time now.
>
> And don’t make up rumors. It doesn’t make you look cool.

uh… lets name things to fix

  1. AAs

  2. Bloom randomness

  3. grafics look cartoony

  4. can’t view file shares in multiplayer games

  5. hard -Yoink- yoink to make gametype maps

  6. no alpha zombie costimization like fat kid and stuff

7…

One of my biggest wants in an update in my opinion is to make it more like the Beta than the final version of Reach.

Make the MA37 have a maximum capacity of 352 rounds like the Beta and Halo 3. If the damage is already decreased, there was no reason to decrease the magazine count as well. Making the MA37 require 16 rounds to kill instead of 19 would also balance it more and not require an entire clip to kill one person ( And allowing skilled players get two kills, like how the DMR was allowed to get up to three kills ).

Make the Plasma Repeater just like how it was in the Beta

Remove sword block

Tweak bloom ( I don’t know the specifics, but it has been complained about allot )

Decrease Banshee bomb damage and area of effect

Make a new universial ranking system that prevents farming and boosting. Reset all players ranks but not their armor. Add incentives such as achievements to get people to want to rank up in MM.

Change the Arena formula and system as well to give better Incentive to rank up in it.

I have two suggestions for Armor lock. Either decrease the time to use it, only allowing one use per charge and for it to be used for a short time, or leave it and increase the rest of the AA’s.

If the latter is chosen:

Make Sprint last 5 Seconds

Make Active Camo just like how it was in the Beta

Make the Jetpack last 5 seconds

Make the Drop Shield Last 25 seconds and increase its duribility

Make the Hologram last 15 seconds, allow it to take more damage before failing

Make Evade Elites only in every playlist. It should only be allowed for Elites, and Decrease Charge time

The Asthetics and looks in the Beta were more appealing to me than in the Final version, the Armor looking simpler but cooler. This is just my opinion but others may agree.

Decrease all Human small arms damge to vehicles. These should not be anti-vehicle weapons.

Remove Invasion skirmish, Or at least just make it Spartans Vs Elites, and have One or two normal Invasion vote slots during the voting time.

Bring back VIP

Make five Playlist hoppers:

Social, Ranked, Firefight, Community, DLC

Social: Squad Battle, Classic Battle, Rumble pit, Invasion, Big Team battle, Elite Battle, Swat

Ranked: Arena Slayer, Arena FFA, Arena Snipers, Arena Objective, MLG

Firefight: Firefight ( Classic ), Firefight Arcade, Firefight Versus

Community: Action Sack, Grab bag, Grifball, Infection, Community Battle

DLC: Team Battle, Elite Battle, Big Team Battle

I leave it up to 343 and the community to decide the specifics of each gametype, although some are self explanatory.

Feel free to add your own suggestions. Thank you for your time reading, and understand that this is all my opinion.

Most important thing is to make the DMR again 12 shots in 1 magazine and make the Plasma Repeater stronger.

> Most important thing is to make the DMR again 12 shots in 1 magazine and make the Plasma Repeater stronger.

I personally don’t mind the 15 rounds, as long as they buff up the AR and Plasma Repeater. I’d love the Plasma Rifle to be in Invasion as well.

  1. Fix bloom

2.Fix AAs

  1. Make it so you can read file shares in matchmaking game.

  2. make it easyer to make opjective games in forge.

I agree with most of what you said.
But, Here is how Reach’s bloom should have been like.

I do not wish to see the Katana to make a return to Halo. I would love the Red Visor though.

Basically, maps are just being added to reach from my understanding. 343 will have to perform maintenance to this game until halo 4’s release. Do any of you see them fixing the many problems of reach? Or do you see them just leaving bungie’s product alone. I haven’t hardly played this game for around 3 months?

At E3, in numerous interviews, Frankie stated that they do have plans for Reach. They just haven’t said anything else yet because the handover isn’t entirely complete yet.

Also, to quote the Halo Bulletin

In the Halo 4 teaser, is there a Pistol in Master Chief’s pocket, or is he happy to see me?

What’s up with the -insert the original something here- being different from the -insert the new something here- in the Halo: Anniversary trailer?

Do you think we’ll get any matchmaking updates after July?

I was going to share the wise words of my Magic 8 Ball (“He’s excited to be back,” “Unfinished game is unfinished,” and “Signs point to yes”)
