Title Update Discussion

You guys aren’t happy with any game, why would someone want to waste their time or money making a TU for you?

Reach is fine. You don’t like it, don’t play it.

> No TU needed.

the main reason i see a title update is needed is because the population playing Reach is falling. they tried tweaking Arena, chaning playlists, adding Team Classic, etc. they’ve done all that they can with playlist and gametype changes.

at the end of the day it seems like a Title Update is really the only option they have left if they’re hoping to gain back any significant # of daily/weekly players.

Yep, I think it’s obvious at this point there will be no TU because of this reason:

There is no $$ going to be generated by a TU for Reach. That’s how -Yoink!- works. No potential $$, no allocation of resources for it.

That being said, it is probably for the better to let 343i focus on a new Halo.

I don’t really think Reach is dying, or needs to be updated. This game came out as the developer intended, and with the community’s blessing.

Fact: more and more games are coming out that can compete with Halo. Even experiences like Kinect, Netflix, & ESPN all take people away from Reach. These aren’t the dark ages of Xbox like the beginning. There are more fun things available than Halo 2.

You all may think there are tons of people that feel this game needs to be fixed, and there are. But, compared to how many actually love it, that number is miniscule at best. The issue is that the general nature of people is to complain. The people that actually like something, don’t usually feel the need to take time out of their day to “vent.” It’s true for everything. Retail chains, restaurants, service providers. The people that usually provide feedback, do so negatively.

Fact is, if Halo were a bad game it wouldn’t have sold, and future iterations wouldn’t sell either. We can’t say it’s dead until it doesn’t create a mass hysteria whenever any news about it comes out.

The minority are not those who want the TU update. It’s quite even based on the community. Things like Melee Bleed Through and armor pick ups are all attainable.

This game will get a TU. You can count on that. It may take awhile but it will for sure.

You have a greater chance of LOSING players by doing a TU than you do of picking players back up. DO NOT DO A TU.

> You have a greater chance of LOSING players by doing a TU than you do of picking players back up. DO NOT DO A TU.

I disagree I believe that if they did do a Title Update and even did a BETA for the update the advertising for the beta alone would bring people back.

Cause I think this deserves stating. People trying to say that the people who dislike this game in the minority need to get there heads checked, here’s a history lesson for those of you who don’t know.

Halo: Reach has 700,000ish people on each day, and the maximum I’ve seen it is 140,000 people on at a time as of late. It launched with far higher numbers, and with up to 700,000 people playing at once on launch day. Okay too recent? Halo 3 would peak at the end of its lifespan at about 140,000-15,000 people a day. Earlier in its lifespan (and at least 6 months out) the numbers were never as abysmal as they’ve been with Reach. Yes, COD4 came out, and many quit to play it, but there were still consistently over 150 k people on at all times.

Halo 2 had millions of people playing each day. Promise it had more than 200,000 people online at all times (and usually far in excess of this number even rivaling Call of Duty whichever one you pick; even CROSS platform). Halo 2 was the pinnacle of multiplayer matchmaking, H1 didn’t have it for X-Box unfortunately unless you could run X-Box Connect. This isn’t about ‘which game is better’, this is pure factual statistics.

Reach’s population has dwindled each month, each week. I see it spike up a bit (like classic being added) but then people get frustrated with things that are blatantly terrible (classic’s beautiful at 110 except that nades are essentially one shot or putting you absolute at the very least).

You who think that Reach needs no fix are the minority given that people have voted by spending there time elsewhere. I know you think that because you keep playing the game it must be good, and I’m glad you enjoy it. I do too, and i play it far too much given that I dislike alot of it. I’m waiting for a title update though that probably won’t happen. Truth is though, Reach needs a title update, why would I want to buy Halo 4 when Reach is in such an abysmal state?

I believe in 343 far more than I do bungie, and I’m hoping so hard, but it’s people who keep saying ‘there’s nothing wrong with the game’ despite the fact that the population is flat-lining that give me reason to believe that nothings ever going to be done.

lol.

Lemme go find your helmet.

thats the problem, no one likes it so no one plays it. look at halo 3, it was roughly equal with cod4/WaW/MW2 in terms of players through most of its lifetime. always being number 1 or 2 on Major Nelson’s list of most played XbL games. Halo Reach isn’t even close to matching the ammount of players online in Black Ops and there is a reason for that. It’s not like the cod series has gotten soooo much better that people are converting, they’ve all been pretty much the same game. It’s that Reach digressed from the things that made Halo 2 and 3 such popular online multiplayer games, and that’s why teh game needs a TU, to restore a couple of those things.

You got to give people that like the game a break o_O. But honestly the attrition alone is reason enough to conclude something went wrong with this game. People that like the game are gonna deny this because they like it and want it to stay the same. I honestly do not understand how people could play and like previous halo games and say this game is a win. It is the worst Halo thus far, but still a good FPS.

Guywiired when you sad you did not like Halo 2 I understood then why you like Halo reach =)!

There have been many unbalanced features in previous Halos that have annoyed me.

But they never made me quit in the middle of a match and play another game instead. And then not go back. And then listen to family members complain about the same things.

i wonder if 343 has even started making an update for reach. maybe they are just focused on their next game. i’d rather have the next halo game not suck like reach did, with every core game mechanic being straight up slap-in-the-face obviously broken, than have a fixed halo reach that is still suboptimal.

> Guywiired when you sad you did not like Halo 2 I understood then why you like Halo reach =)!

Yeah, I’m picking up on that too.

It’s almost like a complete style difference.

I LOVED the H2 story line, but hated the game play mechanics.

H3 was a great story too, but it just felt like more of the same H2 stuffs.

Halo Reach for me… harkens almost perfectly back to Halo: CE while keeping it fresh.

I’m guessing people are going to be in one of two camps.

Camp 1 - Prefers Halo CE and Reach
Camp 2 - Prefers Halo 2 and 3

All of the people, some of the time, and all that, you know?

HA! Thanks, I’m going to need it hanging out in these threads…

Bad Guy, bad. The only time you can split the Halo community into 2 neatly defined groups is when it is Male or Female. ;)… even then I’m sure there’s a few exceptions. But I liked how honest you responded none the less.

haha, yeah, there’s exceptions to every rule, right?

I’m not saying I’m right, it’s just my perception.

There serveral things that from a competitive perspective need changing. Of course you would not be able to see this. You do not fit into this catagory. If a title update dosen’t come, at least in the next game make options so we can change things to how each community likes to play.

For me; my stats show i can cope with how reach plays. Well cope is an understatment. http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/Default.aspx?player=coca+mola&sg=0

But just because i’m good dosen’t mean i think the game is fine. Far from it. Halo:CE, wasn’t a golden shower either. Remember the spread of the pistol? Frustrating, but that was forgivable because of ROF but still random. Never forget Halo 2’s BR. I’t was arguebly the best weapon of the series, by MLG standards but given OP. Halo 3’s was similar but connection played a huge part.

What reach had was a weapon the DMR which was evolved from a BR random spread and pistol spread. Made it accurate without spread. What the Bloom did was make that irrelivent. Thats’s why i feel it should be tweaked. Or an option for it to be removed. Pacing at the moment dosen’t work.

In reach there is no individual skill, in team games 1v1 battles don’t exsist you can always escape and run away because how long it takes to kill people as an individual, make bloom faster and solve this.

Grenades are less BS than Halo CE, but with the Jump hieght and speed there hard to dodge without AL. So in this circumstance i felt they needed to be toned down. It’s halo nature though. Throwing nades on the fly = Spam.

Oh and Melee dominates, no one ever shoots a weapon anymore. Weapons still seem weak. (Apart from a Sniper and Rockets) Classic slayer is a step in the right direction.

Armour Lock honestly i can live with. Dosen’t effect me much, i can usaully outsmart them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tmlWMt9UAc Example, excuse the rockets.

So what i’m sayng really is this game is good, but had the potentional to be great, from a competitive POV, the DMR feels slow and awkard. I actually love the pistol more. Just wish things could be tweaked.

For me personally, i care not for population… But for substance. I wan’t a competitive Halo back. That’s why i want change. Or reverse change, however you look at it.

Read my other post for a longer reasoning, http://halo.xbox.com/forums/games/f/7/t/2774.aspx?PageIndex=16

At the moment this game is slow paced, and awkward to play. But im stuck, it’s better than Halo 3, but that’s not good enough.

See, everyone has their own perceptions, it doesn’t make them right.
