I have a concern pertaining to the bloom modification portion of the upcoming Title Update. As last week’s Halo Bulletin implied, the current plan is to modify the level of bloom on the precision weapons while keeping everything else the same. Since this is the proposed solution, the concept of zero bloom is seen as grossly overpowered due to the unchanged rate of fire and weapon damage. This is not the optimal way to make this change.
The update to the pistol in the upcoming classic playlist to transform it into the CE pistol is the prime example of what must be done to all precision weapons. In case you did not read, the TU allows for modification of the pistol’s rate of fire (while allowing for a less accurate “full auto” mode if the trigger is held) and damage to allow a three shot kill. Bloom will also be removed from this pistol.
Now, if this were done to the other precision weapons (the DMR and needle rifle), a “no bloom” Reach would be perfectly acceptable and capable of balance. The current concern is that the needle rifle is 100% accurate at full auto with no bloom. Instead of tweaking the bloom from there, why not add the functionality given to the pistol? Firing full auto will be inaccurate while consecutive trigger pulls (or feathering as bs angel put it) maintains 100% accuracy.
With these options accessible to the DMR and needle rifle, balancing them to the rest of the sandbox is quite simple. Lets start with the DMR:
Choose a maximum kill time for the weapon. This could be anything, though preferably faster than default Reach and closer to Halo CE/2/3.
With this kill time in mind, choose the minimum number of shots needed for one kill. Default Reach is 5, I would prefer 4.
With these two parameters chosen, set the maximum fire rate of the weapon to make this happen. SIMPLE
Now the needle rifle:
With the kill time for the DMR in mind, choose a maximum kill time for the needle rifle, be it faster or slower based on range differences (…so faster.)
Choose the minimum number of shots required for one kill. Default takes 7, I think this should at least be reduced to 6.
Pick the corresponding maximum rate of fire to make this happen. Remember, full auto mode will be a faster rate of fire than the one chosen but will be hampered by inaccuracy.
Lets move on to the pistol that will be placed outside of the Anniversary playlist (the non-CE pistol):
With the same modifiable parameters allowable by the update to make the CE pistol, choose a maximum kill time. Due to its range, I believe the pistol should have the fastest kill time of the three.
Choose the minimum number of shots to kill. I think it should be the same as the DMR; in my example that is 4.
Choose the corresponding rate of fire. In my example this would be faster than that of the DMR.
With faster kill times, the other weapons should also receive kill time boosts: the AR, plasma repeater, plasma rifle, focus rifle and spiker (yes, its in a community map or 2.) The plasma launcher should also track better, similar to its beta capabilities. As you can see, it is the same process for every weapon.
A zero-bloom Reach is obtainable. 343i, you need to take the modification capabilities you made possible for the pistol and apply them to the DMR and needle rifle.Yes, on its own, removing bloom unbalances the sandbox. That is why modifying kill times is so important. On its own, simply modifying bloom is not the answer. PLEASE REALIZE THIS!
How about somewhere to save our Game types and maps.
Possibly linked to the the player’s SkyDrive.
This is because it is a free storage cloud provided by -Yoink!- and it is already linked to that players live account (and by extension GT), and Waypoint doesn’t have to invest in their own storage for files.
Using the SkyDrive will also remove the limit on how many files you can have, just put the files in a special folder and fill it up until your entire Skydrive runs out.
I really hope what we know about the TU isn’t all of the stuff that will be in it?
It seems like they are just making options for a classic playlist, that’s fine, but regular reach needs tweaks too. Speed, vehicles, maps, weapons, they all need fixing.
Basically I’m saying I hope that The TU fixes the not so known problems such as bloom and AAs, cause that’;s what it seems like right now.
The TU will fix bloom and AA’s, but only within the classic playlist. I’m not fan of Reach compared to the other halos, but changing the littlest of things in the vanilla Reach might upset those that enjoy it. Let them have their fun their way, and we can have ours in the classic playlist, and possibly when Halo 4 comes out that will be entirely dedicated to a true halo experience.
No team colors in forge mode so you can have your own custom colors?
a single button customs and forge online weapon lowering? (please god help the machinimakers)
campaign things added to forge? (long range shade turret, FRG shade, troop hog, target locator, civilian vehicles)
target locator as a weapon option in customs and forge?
I could have swore that they said there would be a few new costom game options added, I hope to god at least the boost, team color thing, and weapon lowering are added if anything else.
I never realized how bad this was untill it happened to me 3 times in one game.
Hologram needs to have melee lunge removed. Ive tried to beat down so many kids as they deploy hologram, my melee lunge will go twords the hologram first. Not the player. I know its a hologram, im not aiming for that.
o_O I think he’s mistaken. In early or late october there will be hoppers aka beta playlists for the update but the update doesnt 100% release till Halo: CEA launch. We might have something a little concrete by late october, a little closer to launch.

It should be released this month. At Halo Fest they showed a pretty good sample of the changes as well as provided information here about the update. To Add, as far as I know the changes stated and seen are the only changes that will be implemented pre/launch of Halo CEA. So its clear they have something pretty concrete, maybe its just going thru xbox live certifications?
Crossing my fingers we get something late this month or the first week of October. :]
The title update comes out this month. We will be able to use it in custom games only, until the beta hoppers (hoppers means playlists) appear in october. The beta playlists will feature the TUs changes. When anniversary releases the TU playlists will no longer be beta and will include the CEA maps.

Ok but this moth we won’t be able to play the TU in MM then right?

Wrong, the gametypes will be acquired during the Beta Hoppers, none of the changes will be present in the UI, and will all be based on gametypes.

Ok you just confused me even more. What is coming this month and what is coming next month?

Update to modify Megalo this month. Gametypes next month. We’re pretty much getting a toy with no batteries this month.

Yes, but the TU DOES release this month in late September. And the only way we can play the Bloomless gametypes or 3sk Pistol settings, is if 343i distributes the gametypes on some of their fileshares. This way the TU can release, and we will be able to play custom games with our friends and at least 343i will have a good amount of feedback before “Beta Hoppers” releases with testable playlist gametypes for MatchMaking.
