Title Update Discussion

I just saw two forum post about bloom being removed…Ive been on xbox for awhile, did 343 confirm this?

Go to the Halo Bulletin and watch the Damnation gameplay footage. Watch it at 4:16 and you will see that the DMR has no bloom and in the gameplay, it also has bleedthrough melee.

Get your butt over to the Halo Bulletin now OP. Double time! The Corps ain’t paying us by the hour!

> Hi there, I’m not sure whether other people in the public know this and I’ve somehow missed this piece of information or it is unknown as of yet but when the TU comes out with the more classic feel to Reach, will we just get the 1 playlist in which the DMR will be bloomless or will there be multiple playlists incorporating the classic feel (TS, Swat, MLG etc) ?

I’m sure ALL playlists at some point will include gametypes that have these settings involved, but for now I’d safely assume that it will be incorporated into 2 or 3 playlists: TU Slayer, TU Objective, and TU BTB.

Okay if this is what they are gonna do it will -Yoink- up the game even more. All I have been hearing is that it will function like the br(not true).the br is a burst weapon and when fired the three bullets would hit any where in the circle to implement spread which worked great. The dmr from what I saw is a 5sk every time.I mean it can easily beat the ar as it is now with bloom at close range and if you remove it there would be no point to any other cqb weapon. Now if they were to remove bloom the following measures should be considered 1.slow the rof on all precision weapons except snipe.2.make crosshairs bigger and make all shots register within the crosshair(like the br&carbine). What we asked for is the bloom to not award spammers kills they never should have got and what they did(if at all still early to assume)was make ppl who spam more accurate I lol at that.Btw I am not against bloom removal just think it would throw balance way off.Session data

It looked fine. Who cares. This will speed up gameplay and make Halo fun again. Slowing down the rof will just take steps back again.

then DMR is already basically strictly better than every single ‘cqb’ weapon.

so the foundation for your argument is…

the game will change from: DMR beats every CQB gun to… DMR beats every CQB gun even more.

lolz.

i agree tho, AR needs buffed at close and close medium range as well.

post title update, i guarantee the population will steadily change from everyone playing the abysmal current reach to the, then-new, IMPROVED reach.

343 i love you. you took bungies ugly baby and polished it to perfection. words cannot express how happy i am now that you guys are in charge. we called, and you answered, and were all proud of you for it.

sorry default reach peeps. sucks to be you. your playlist populations are going down the tubes because theres more people that can see the obvious strict-upgrades across the board.

I’m with you on this. I love what they have done, they know what we all wanted.

> sorry people who like gametypes other than slayer. sucks to be you. your playlist populations are going down the tubes because 343 will probably only add these features to slayer anyway

Fixed.

Seriously, I don’t see them catering to anything but the “mainstream” gametypes. Even Bungie left Juggernaut on the cutting room floor. The chances of gametypes like Oddball, Infection, Jug, and Invasion – that is, the non-standard gametypes that tend to be the most useful in Customs – seeing updates are slim to none. You Slayer folks get pampered while everyone else is stuck with derp.

I like that 343’ll be purging Reach’s gameplay of BS. I also like that they’re making the changes optional – it’s a nice pattern that should be followed for pretty much all balance tweaks that are made in the future. But the limited availability that comes from not being able to make these changes ourselves means that these changes are utterly worthless outside of the very limited set of gametypes that 343 may or may not release for us.

It would just make better sense to paste the improved Reach all over the game. Why offer a product that is still sub-standard to your customers when there is a much better thing out there?

i am actually lead to believe that the gametypes will all be available (to some extent), its just a matter of finding them. i say this because thats the impression i got from the 8/17 bulletin regarding the gametypes.

re-read it, i think you might be surprised.

There may be cases in Custom Games where the “sub-standard product” exhibits quirks that are useful to non-standard gameplay. For example, I know of a guy who tried investigating the potential minigame applications of a glitch in the first version of Speedpile to be released into MM.

makes sense for us because we actually see both sides and the obvious improvements being made. some people arent gifted with logic and reasoning as much as we are. for them, they’ll have trashcan reach.

i just hope they think of me when they out play an armor locker when it lasts 6+ seconds long, then get killed by the armor lockers teammate

thats actually very interesting for me. what was the glitch about?

> re-read it, i think you might be surprised.

I read it three times.

They stated that the fixes are contained in game variants but that there is no GUI for them. Therefore the logical assumption is that they are implemented as extensions to the Megalo scripting engine that Reach uses. Ergo the changes will only exist in 343-altered game variants. If 343 does not alter every single game variant and release those variants into Matchmaking, then there will be gametypes that are left behind. Even then, they would have to release multiple versions of each gametype containing the various configuration options (i.e. Slayer without bloom but with fall damage; Slayer with bloom but without fall damage; Slayer without bloom or fall damage) in order for the changes to be most useful.

The upshot of all of which is that certain gametypes that would benefit greatly from new configuration changes may not even get these configuration changes. Infection without sword block, for example.

Originally, carried flags attached to the Armor Ability on your back rather than directly to your Spartan. So all kinds of glitches could occur if you started grabbing flags without having an AA equipped. In some cases, the flags would change color and your HUD would update, but they would not move from their spawns.

EDIT: Just because I’m bored:

The potential minigame applications depended on two things: does the flag revert to Neutral if the “carrier” dies? And if someone else touches the flag while it’s being “carried”, will they then steal it from the carrier? If so, then it would introduce a new element to Speedpile: protect both your carrier, and the spawn from which they grabbed the flag. I don’t know if the idea ever came to fruition.

Just wait a lot of people are going to be converted to the competitive community post-TU. They are going to see what we meant by “Classic Game Mechanics” and are going to stay. But we can’t let up on these kids, if we do then they will never get better. So I say spawn kill, hold the objectives and show no mercy post-TU. It will be every Team for themselves to come out on top. Because this time around the stats will matter, the DMR battles will matter and most of all YOUR skill will matter.

Ha, its amazing, we’ve been asking for this for months and 343 gives it us and we’re happy.

INCONCEIVABLE!!!.. ( Matchmaking voice )

wow, thats actually super cool.

this is what i was referring to, regarding gametypes:

“The Title Update will not give users discrete control over specific granular elements, but you can simply save the new elements from Matchmade types and use them as a the basis for your own customs. It’s not ideal (adding a new UI layer was out of scope) but it won’t take more than ten minutes of browsing to get all the stuff you want/need. And we’ll constantly be populating Matchmaking lists with updated stuff.“
