In fact, it got worse. I met a lot of gold team with onyx or dim
It’s Mr. Onyx and their unskilled friends, or it’s Mr. Onyx playing Smurf accounts to help their friends score.
When they try to bring their worse friends or cheat to use a lower rank account, the system will pull you or a worse player into the game.
I’ve seen a lot of this at Diamond4,Sometimes I even pray for have a normal match of diamonds.
The ranking system undoubtedly needs to be fixed, but 343 hasn’t admitted that it has a problem.
Now I give up the ranking and go back to MCC.

We won the first round handily, then the onyx decided to play and we had no chance after that. That’s the problem with those summaries. They don’t give the whole picture.
You really need to stop spewing about things you don’t know about. Once he started playing for real the game was over.

I can gather from the k/d spread of your team vs the enemy team and the overall score that it wasn’t a landslide for the enemy team. The onyx player didn’t have god tier accuracy (your accuracy was actually higher). He never got higher than a 4 person killing spree (so it wasn’t like he was just steamrolling you each time he was in a firefight), and he wasn’t even the highest scoring player in the game (your ally had a better score, better killing spree, more skull carrier kills, and more multikills than the onyx player).
In fact it sounds like the onyx player was matched against your ally in that game based on all the metrics. This absolutely wasn’t a landslide match despite what you’re saying.

That’s because he took the first round off. Like I said, for the second and third rounds he actually tried and the game was a landslide. Rounds 2 and 3 were a combined 200-70 against us.

I nearly always get put up against Diamond players when I’m Platinum. Kinda makes the system feel redundant.
Ive stopped playing ranked. I get to Diamond 5 and im teamed with Gold and Plat players. Or people who are inexplicably Diamond ranked.
I play well, often scoring highly while the rest of my team flounders. Sometimes i score better than the players on the superior team who have been farming mindless morons. And i continue to rank down.
What is the point.
There is no point. The matchmaking is absolutely garbage and 343 put out another piece of garbage.

There’s even LFG posts on Xbox specifically asking for low ranks to lower the average CSR and get “easy lobbies”.
Its pretty pathetic, but when you leave a blatant loophole you cant be surprised when its abused.

They need MMR restriction, and stop having social SBMM add ontop your ranked SBMM. I mean seriously LOL
I dont know how they would solve it in a social way. Thats the tuff part, thankfully i dont have to come up with a solution.
Id say only match Onyx with Onyx, Diamond with Diamond etc etc but we all have friends that are either better or worse than us. How do you take this into consideration without killing the playlist itself?
Back in Halo 2 with the old 0-50 style ranking, it would search for players closest to your rank then open up that window wider until the match was filled. That seemed to work fine. If you took a rank 10 in with a rank 50 it would take an absolute age to find a match cause it would wait until another team searched with the same rank range. The problem with infinite being free to play is anyone can spin up a smurf in minutes and be hammering people in the silver lobbies if they choose to.
They could make the ranking bracket much larger and not allow ranked play until you have at least 50 - 100 games under your belt, this would make it too much of a hassle to spin up a smurf i guess.
Im not trying to excuse the current ranking system, god knows its broken. But i cant see how in a F2P environment they can fix it to be honest. Which sucks… big time for the longevity of the game as apart from getting your wallet out, its the only progression system in the game.
So, it’s not just looking at rank, it’s trying to match based on your MMR, which is a hidden ranking system based on your win/loss and performance in every playlist combined. So if you’re consistently running into onyx, it’s likely for two reasons:

They’re doing poorly even though they have a higher rank, and it’s matching them with “lower skilled” people

You’re performing much better than your rank and it’s trying to find you matches with better players
Agree with most of this…but it’s the systems fault not the players.
As an example…
I’m the best of my group of friends and currently P6 (I could easily climb the Diamond ranks if we played more ranked games) where as my friends are mainly high Silver/low Gold (and probably a few Bronzes judging by how bad they are!).
If we play ranked then I find it pretty easy going but my friends all struggle, and I know it will only get worse for them if I climb in to the Diamond ranks so I generally avoid playing ranked with them.
On the flip side to that coin are the teams that we meet…where I absolutely steam roll them whilst my friends struggle to break even KD. The games are always close so we win some or lose some, so matchmaking is working correct in general with relatively balanced teams. As I said, above if I rank up higher then my friends will struggle even more.
If they use a system where I can’t play with my lower ranked team mates due to an MMR restriction m then I think that will only make the situation worse with more players creating more Smurf accounts tbh.
Unfortunately there are no easy answers to resolve this given the ranking model they have chosen to go with as it will always be open to exploitation one way or another.
Players who play with low-level friends are right, but those who play with new accounts and team up with skilled diamonds are definitely cheaters.
This may not be perfect, but there are always ways, such as limiting the ranking of new accounts, adding an account whose Level system meets the standard to participate in the rank arena, and adding br to the social list while limiting the ranking.
But 343’s attitude now is to escape, which is obviously not a big project, but can not satisfy everyone.
Making accounts achieve a certain level before allowing ranked play is pretty standard. Definitely a must in a f2p game. BR start social playlists with no sbmm and forcing all ranked matches to be the same class for all players. So if I’m plat I’ll only ever get matches with all plats.
