Yup, another rant about JIP. I play a lot of CTF and I seriously feel like this bs only works against me. I get joined into games 2-3 caps down and missing teammates. When I’m in a close game and someone on my team quits, no one gets joined it. Seriously 343, I am done with your game after getting the Flag Victory Commendation and skipping H5 if this bs is still around. Tired of it.
I believe after a certain period of time Join In Progress no longer works for games.

That would explain how in the several games that I joined that were in progress, they had just begun. If JiP doesn’t happen after a few minutes, than it’s not that bad.
Still want a toggle option though.

Somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen. Stuck with it until the next game.

Just played an entire game 4 v 5 because someone quit at the start. Also yesterday I joined a game right before it ended in defeat (I literally didn’t even have time to spawn in even once). Can provide video evidence of both of these if needed but JIP is not fixed.
I still call complete bullshovek on JIP being fixed or not joining you into a game after a certain point… I had a wonderful game the other night of CTF…
“oh, great…JIP, I guess I’ll wait, 343 was supposed to fix it joining me at the end of the game… Capture the Flag… Game Over Oh, I lost before I even started, great job 343, not!”
removes Halo 4 and plays Skyrim for the next 4 days “Awesome”
The WORST part about JIP is even if you get into a game where the system says “ok, half the game in terms of kills/score hasn’t been reached yet, so you can join”, the time it takes to actually GET INTO THE GAME is absurd. That’s why, regardless if the game just started, if you take more than even just 2 minutes to even get into the game, by that time it’s practically over. So JIP needs to go. It’s a very poorly done system and they need to get rid of it for Halo 5.
Oh yes, I also forgot about the other matches where somebody drops off in the voting screen and we play the entire game down one person when there’s 4K people playing CTF… really, you can’t find one person to throw on our team?
@Teh Spearhead:
You’re correct on that point. It’s disabled after the score or amount of kills reaches half of the game limit.
But the problem with this setup is this. Here is an example:
You get put into a game in Infinity Slayer where the score is 150-200. You get put on a team, but because of how long the JIP system takes to put you in, you realize that when you see the scoresheet, it’s 330-210. So you think the system put you in after halfway was reached and say &@!, but in reality you were placed in the game before the marker was reached. But because it took so long to get in, you get screwed over.
If JIP was instantaneous, it would be fine. But it takes WAY too long and it’s just a nuisance.
Being any caps down in CTF especially in an even match is a big deal. I think it should be disabled for CTF entirely. I hate joining games even 1 cap down, and even worse if it is 2-3.
I
JiP.
JiP makes gameplay better from where I sit. I would much rather join a game midstream every now and then than get stuck by myself all the time like I did in previous titles.

Tell that to all the people who play competitive for CSR rank and find themselves joining a game to find out it ended only seconds after they joined and then de-rank because of it.

OK: to the people who play competitive for CSR rank my name is Analbumcover and I
JiP
I do however think that there should be competitive playlists that do not have JiP, or infinity settings. I think that these playlists should have visible rank not allow guests and no loadouts. The competitive crowd should be taken care of but for social players like myself… Well… I just

JiP.
The thing is, if we had a preference to join or not, and completing JIP games would grant us extra XP, it would encourage JIP while letting us choose whether we want it or not.
I tell you what, JIP can leave CTF just as soon as severe punishments start happening for leaving games.
Until then, suck it up, because I shouldn’t be punished with a guaranteed loss for sticking it out in a game because you don’t want to be put into a game where rage quitters like you left me high and dry.
All good points made, I too hate JIP. I’d like to add two more things.
ONE: JIP can’t work for halo, the first minute of the game is the most important one because that is when a team establishes map control over weapons and spawns and objective (if playing objective type games). when an individual joins a game and the other team has rockets, sniper, and the objective you’re game is pretty much over in a loss. (which is 90% of the time) 9 in 10 games is a loss when it comes to JIP.
TWO: JIP was created because of quitters…this is not a solution because if a quitter joins a game in progress…he’ll just QUIT again. nothing’s stopping him. This system is punishing everyone else… get rid of it 343i.

For the record, I am ok with this.
And name calling, mature.

I’ve never had it take that long to throw me in a game. Are you sure it wasn’t the host’s connection, or yours? :\

The Halo Bulletins have given me the impression that JIP can be configured per-playlist, so I’d recommend crossposting that feedback in the official CTF Feedback thread to increase the chances of it being seen.
> I tell you what, JIP can leave CTF just as soon as severe punishments start happening for leaving games.
Fifteen-minute quit bans didn’t work in Reach, and one-hour quit bans don’t work in Halo 4. Punishment will not prevent ragequits.

Last month, a community member had a good idea for balancing out the effects of JIP on a player’s personal win/loss record. The full post is here, but as it’s a long read, I’ll summarize:
a. If you join the losing team and they do not take the lead at any point after your arrival, then it will not count as a loss for you. In other words, if you join a team that’s losing too badly for your presence to turn things around, then you’re forgiven.
b. If you join the losing team and they take the lead for a while, only to end up losing anyway, then it will count as a loss for you.
c. If you join the winning team and they end up winning the match without losing the lead at any point after your arrival, then whether or not you get credit for a win will depend on how much you contributed relative to the other teammates. This way, you won’t get as much credit for arriving after victory was assured by others.
This idea applied to win/loss but should be adaptable to CSR.
@DavidJCobb: Thanks for posting this info. I like this idea, and maybe also implement a reward for helping win after joining a losing team.
I made a post about my own experience with JIP. I wish I had read this thread first. I would’ve commented here. Do you think you can merge them. I feel like the thread I started is redundant. Thanks.
I like the “no penalty for joining a losing team.” I’d like to double the penalty for those who bail (a lot).
CTF and some other games are now a meta-game - “Can I get far enough ahead to start the quitting chain reaction?” CTF to 5 - get ahead 2-0 and maybe you get someone to quit, then players start to JIP and then THEY quit. While they are busy spawning and getting reoriented get the third cap, even if you have to trade to get it. If your team is ahead 3-1, then the other team cannot get anyone. Use that time to get map position and power weapons. Suddenly a second person quits, then it’s a matter of how fast you can score versus how quickly the other team can look at the list and realize how many people have left.
I wonder what percentage of games are won by forfeit…
