TIPS PLEASE

well… to the point, I just suck in halo, which is ironic since is my favorite game and the one I like the most, and I need some tips of howcan I be less DAMN noob, what can I do?

Well since you asked here is my shameless plug.
But for real, YouTube can help a lot. You can even friend some people to help you out. I’m always willing to help people out of you want to send me a friend request.

Honestly if you’re having a bad time it’s ok don’t worry about it. Just keep playing and at some point you’ll get better. I started playing halo 5 a few weeks ago my KDA was around - 5. Yes horrible I know but I kept practicing and now my KDA in arena is 2.2 and around 0.1 all around. So my lesson to you is keep practicing. If that doesn’t watch some twitch and learn the tips and tricks. Ps if you need help from I am always there to help.

Halo is a hard game, and Halo 5 perhaps even more so than those that came before it. I feel your pain, Osval, as I’ve also struggled to improve my skills. After doing relatively well with Halo 4, 5 feels like starting over in a lot of ways. Between the XB1’s controller to the new and far more game mechanics in 5 as compared to earlier games, I think it takes a lot of repetitive play to get the hang of it and start to elevate.

But I like Dark User’s advice, too: Don’t beat yourself up about it. Play, have fun.

I asked for tips before on how to improve, and most answers I’ve gotten is to play passively. I may not be the best of Halo players, but I believe that with some good practices, we can always find ways to improve. Playing the campaign on a higher difficulty will certainly help. Also, playing some matches that you’re more used to or better at is a good way too. it may be rough along the way, getting your butt kicked by other players, but with time and some analysis, I’m sure you can improve.

I found YouTube videos with tips to be quite helpful, but it is just practice, unlocking lots of load out weapons helps too

Looks like your playing WZ, and Grif lately. Make sure you have a fireteam for those. Full fireteams will help out a lot. Join a Company, use a site like lfg to form fast fireteams. Find that harmony weapon for your style…get good with the pistol.

Halo is a game that you have to work at to become good at, that’s why I love it so much. I back when I got halo 3 I sucked so bad but I just played a lot and got better. People can give you a million tips but the best why to get better is to just play the game. Playing with a full team and communication helps a lot too.
And since you did want some tips here are a few that helped me out a lot.
-The most important thing in halo is positioning, know power positions and skill jumps that could help get better angles
-know when you need to chase kills and when you shouldn’t
-practice with the weapons you suck
-use the powerups, they are useful and can win you the game (spawn 2 minutes after pick up, timing them can give you an advantage on the enemy team.)
-watch people who are better than you and really look at what they are doing (like weapons they use, the positions on the map they try to control, and overall how they play the game.)
-try making call outs in game chat when you are playing alone. If you are anti-social like me this might be hard, I use to get super nervous talking to randoms but I got over it. And another thing if you are in game chat and no one else is don’t start yelling at them to plug in a mic, that doesn’t work. Just continue to call out, some times people wait till halfway through the game to get comfortable enough to start talking.
-AND my favorite tip I’ve tip I’ve ever been giving is “You gotta get destroyed to get good at halo.”
gl the skill gap is why I love halo so much

What helped me a lot is to just play for fun for a while. You can watch other players and see their tactics and start to mimic those. You should also try and get good with lots of weapons, don’t stay confined to one or two. Playing the campaign can also help, its easier to practice headshots there.

Don’t run from your enemies unless you know you are gonna lose or they are about to spartan charge you. Run at them for maximum efficiency.

one tip that i learned on my own is to use the right stick(look) less. just line up your shot and try to aim more with your left stick. weird thing when missing shots is that you subconsciously start to freak out with your right stick when in a firefight. Map movement is HUGE also. when i say map movement, i dont necessarily mean routes. i mean that whenever youre in a firefight, try to always have an exit strat. OH and if you play with a squad, your callouts need to be on point. just callout everything, even if your not sure it makes sense. i’d rather someone callout out something than nothing at all. when you kill someone call that out. it’s a good idea to keep a running tally of how many enemies are dead that way you know when to push for flag or powerweapons. also get used to knowing when powerweapons respawn(this will take practice). dont do all this at once, just focus up on one aspect of your play until you have it down. oh and one more thing… HAVE FUN. if you’re playing a game and youre not having fun, why play it? Cheers.

^ great advice. @OP load up some of the maps in a custom game, even by yourself, and get used to running around and practising different skill jumps. Some good videos on Yutube of useful jumps. Also take note of where weapons are placed and try and learn the timing of their respawns

Hey man, me and a friend have just started up a new tips series, check it out and let us know what you think

I feel like this a lot. One tip is dont listen to people if a gun sucks. Try it a few times before judging it. People use to tell me that needlers in certain games werent good but in every game i am awsome with them. Also people may risk their life for a sniper weapon but i cant aim for crap and the grunts know it. Basically what im saying is find your skill set.

Well playing more always helps. I suppose figuring out what your most bad at and improving that through practice is a good idea.

some basic tips:
-Stay around the edges of the map, don’t charge through the center. this way you’ll only have 3 exposed sides instead of 4.

  • keep sprinting to a minimum; if you always sprint you will have less time to start aiming and shooting, unless you know what you are doing i recommend learning to aim first, and then after that, learn to use the sprint.

  • pre-aim; if you are walking around try to keep your target recticle at headshot-height. when you are about to turn a corner make sure you aim where you want to go.

-use the environment: use trees, rocks, walls etc. for cover, dont be afraid to duck for cover when your shields are low. the enemy will come to you. just spring a trap, wait around the corner to recharge your shields and then gunpunch them (melee them and then shoot them till they die).

basically trail and error. learn to use all guns and learn what there weak and strong points are. learn vehicle weak spots as well as this will be of great use.

other than that it is mostly trail and error and just play. to get good at it.

Plus not to mention shields dont recharge when sprinting.

I’ve been playing Halo since I was six years old. I am now twenty one. My K/D is always positive in every halo game. My best advice is that there is no true way to instantly play better. This is a game that requires skill, time, and a lot of practice, simply because it is not as easy to get a kill in as call of duty is. Play reserved and stay in the back. People that are seasoned in halo often look for “noobs” that will just rush and run out into the open for a quick and easy kill. If you stay in the back, that gives you time to access your surroundings and see where the enemies might be, where your team mates are dying or fighting at, and where you might be able to sneak up behind them. Play smart. Not like a barbarian trying to get a quick easy kill. As for your reaction time when actually fighting someone. This skill can only come with practice and being calm. For example, I have seen people play and get so nervous when they see an enemy that they will hit the melee button instead of aiming and shooting, when in fact the enemy was no where near for them to melee. I promise you, work on reaction time, play like I stated above, and you will be a veteran in no time. If this tactic does not work for you, then find a long range weapon such as the battle rifle or DMR and play from afar. Or stay with team mates and move when they move and take the enemy down together. If you want to work on reaction time, I would suggest playing SWAT or team snipers if they have it in the community playlist for the month. If you want to work on shooting from afar, most game types will do. But if you wish to work on that while working on surviving and getting kills with your team, I would suggest the game type Breakout in Halo 5’s arena. This game type will give you the essentials you need to be a great player. Good luck Spartan. I hope this helps.
