Tips on using the Light Rifle?

This weapon is just giving me such a hard time. I find it difficult to pick it over my BR or Carbine…or any precision rifle tbh. Normally, with my BR I win 90% of battles i shoot first in. With the Light Rifle, i lose 90% of the time even if I get the first shot in.

I might just give up using this weapon, seeing as though ever since I picked it up I’ve been going extremely negative lately. Can anyone give me some tips on this weapon?

(Also, how bout the pulse grenade? I’m trying to use that too and I literally have 2 kills with the thing. I don’t get it.)

Long range. Also, I would suggest playing on a high sensitivity, so as to turn when firing.

The LightRifle is a great weapon if you plan on sticking back and getting long distance kills. It is a four shot kill when zoomed in, as well as its faster firing rate compared to its five shot kill and slower fire rate when not zoomed.

If you plan on getting short to medium range with the gun, try zooming in, shooting an enemy once before unscoping then once you’ve unscoped, fire three shots into the players head. The first shot while scoped in will have done enough damage to allow you to get a four shot kill.

But like I mentioned earlier, this weapon is intended for long range use and you will always get beaten by a Carbine/BR at medium to short range.

This, and for the pulse grenade try not to use it as an offensive only grenade as it is far from an offensive grenade because it doesn’t bounce and if you miss the hit it won’t very much damage. It is best used when you use to deny someone entry or to ambush an unsuspecting person. Also it works great in groups of people who aren’t moving, the initial damage completely wipes out the shields(unless they have explosives), and the outgoing explosion does the same amount of damage.

Used correctly it can be just as powerful if not more than the frag and plasma in terms of tactics, ambush, and stopping power.

The easiest way I use Pulse Grenades is to use them while using an automatic weapon. Just bring your target down to 1/4 shields then throw the Pulse Grenade at them, and the initial blast when it opens will kill them instantly.

That’s basically how I got it done.

Are you going for Commendations? If so, play lots of Lightning Flag in Action Sack. I got mine mastered quick.

Otherwise, the Light Rifle is mostly useful when scoped, so I only ever use it when playing on maps like Exile, Ragnarok, and Complex.

My clanmates complain about the large crosshair when zoomed in. Once you get used to that you’ll pick up more kills.

Well guys, I’ve come to a conclusion. This gun is crap. I’ll stick with good ol BR

… What did you call my gun?

The lightrifle is the most skill/power tradeoff weapon in this game I’d say. Zoom in at close range, control the flinch. Two or three shots zoomed in is good. One minimum. If you can pull of full four shots scoped in then you get a fast kill. My lightrifle is my weapon of choice. I guess its satisfying killing battle rifle users with it at closer ranges.

I find it best to use on maps with long lines of sight, such as BTB maps and Solace. This gun is as close as you can get to using a sniper rifle when zoomed in.

However, its biggest weakness is that its unzoomed shots are slow and less damaging than the other weapons. It is possible to still do a 4 shot kill when you can get 1 zoomed shot on the target (pick a big part of the target’s body when doing so. You will be pressing for time, and the LR does the same damage anywhere on a shielded target).

As for Pulse Grenades, you will need to treat them like a frag grenade that doesn’t bounce. If you want to kill someone with it, its best to get their shields down, then throw at their feet. The closer you are to them, the better your chances of scoring a kill will get.

It’s not the weapon but how you use it. There are quite a few good suggestions you’ve gotten already. Each weapon has its niche. Don’t blame the weapon just have patience and change your tactics.
