I’ve been playing for a while now but I seem pretty terrible at this game, at least in arena. Can anyone give me some tips on the proper way to play this game so I can figure out what I’m doing wrong?
I’m a champion ranked player so probably. But I can’t tell you what you’re doing wrong without more info.
Use the BR, That’s all you need to do well in this game, Plenty of aim assist and bullet magnetism with that weapon. It’s got no spread and you can cross map people with it
- Aim more with your left stick than your right stick. - Always avoid 1v1 battles unless you are 100% sure you will come out on top. Instead, leave and go help teammates. - When you spawn, run straight to help teammates. - Use you radar not only looking for red enemy dots but also for the white friendly dots. That will tell you the clock position of all your teammates and from that you can determine where you should not run and where you have teammates to back you up. - Communicate what you are doing and callout enemies. - Pick up power weapons and powerups every time they spawn. They spawn at 2 minute intervals, so usually overshield/camo and sniper/shotgun/rockets gets picked up at 11:50 at the beginning of every game. Be there to pick them up at 9:50, 7:50, 5:50, etc. - Remind yourself of the above tips every day.I’m a champion player and I often lose track of these things. So the best tip is number 7.

He asked for tips, not whining.
If anything you should be getting good with the pistol since it’s what you’re forced to use most of the time anyways.

Don’t use smartlink at all, the aim assist is way less while using it
Figure out how the aim assist works, I know 343 has a vid on it somewhere.
Run and hide like any other halo.

These are helpful tips, you just gotta git gud
But really OP, Just use the BR, its the easiest loadout weapon in the game and not hard to master at all
i think I understand now. the magnetic pull. I was trying too hard to aim perfectly when all I have to do is move the mark towards the other player and pull the trigger.
Im champion and I still try to aim perfectly and i think it -Yoinks!- me the most. Now I’ve been firing and hoping for the best seems aight.
Sacrifice partners, take their weapons, take their vehicles, use them as meat shields, spam grenades (even if teammates are there), steal assassinations, etc.
…
I would like to note I only do this to friends.
Before you get too far, go with a better controller configuration which will open up more possibilities later. Take your time to aim and get used to one weapon at a time. The two stars for weapons are the pistol and the BR. Start dominating key positions and weapons, as these maps are very positional.
Practice.
Use this website for tips. I know it’s meant for another game, but the tips and strategies that are applicable in Halo 5 work very well.
But really, I’m not qualified to give tips.
The aforementioned are pretty much all you need, but my 2 cents include…
- Actually try to aim. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but I relinquished my twitch-y aim attitude and paced myself, yielding a lot more wins in duels.
- Really try to stick with your team even if it’s with randoms. Even if you guys aren’t communicating, analyze what your teammate is doing (focus fire, power weapon cover, etc.) and react accordingly. I stopped lone wolfing and managed to push my arena rank up significantly.
Best of luck!
Aim for the head
Oh ya I know I should aim but I shouldn’t scroll the target around too much I should get just get the target on him and strafe.
I think a lot of it has to do with comfort. You simply need to be feeling good while you play, both mentally and physically. You can’t play well if your mind is somewhere else. If you’re feeling antsy, you tend not to think things all the way through and it’s much harder to concentrate on aiming/tactics/etc. So before you commit to a multiple-hour sesh, hit the gym. If I’m feeling good I tend to track my opponents better; I notice I focus on the very middle of the screen and twitch-aiming comes more naturally. This is in contrast to focusing on how the reticle lines up with a player’s head, which I do when hungry/tired/just not that into it – and that makes me much more error prone (think about the concept in baseball: don’t aim, just throw). Posture is also key. Sit with your back straight. Don’t let your knees support your arms when holding the controller. Drink a lot of water. And TV needs to be at eye level, not too close, not too far away…so yeah… you can’t spell GAMEPLAY without ME.
