Tips On How to play Reach Matchmaking

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of people making simple mistakes while playing matchmaking that cause their team to lose. These mistakes are mostly common sense of what not to do. Unfortunitly, it seems that many halo players don’t have any common sense. Therefore, I created this guide to help them along.

  1. DO NOT EXCESSIVELY KILL/SHOOT TEAMMATES!! this does nothing but lower your score, get you booted, and make others angry at you. a single melee or shot should be enough the express your displeasure for what they have done.

  2. GO FOR THE OBJECTIVE!! Playing an objective game as slayer is just dumb. It causes the players who actually want to win to get frustrated that no one will drive them over whith the bomb, gather skulls, or whatever. if you want to play slayer, start up custom games, or go to a slayer only playlist.

3.DON’T HOG POWER WEAPONS!! Having that Shotgun/Splazer combo may seem cool, but what if someone comes at you from medium range? you can’t reach them with your shotgun, and you don’t have the time to charge up your splazer. you die, giving the enemy 2 powerful weapons. also in addition, you can’t use both weapons at once, were as if 2 people had them individually, they could be. I find that it is usually best to have one “Regular” wepon with you (usually something like an AR or DMR), and one Power/Special weapon with you.

4.ONLY USE WEAPONS YOU KNOW HOW TO USE!! A noob with a sniper rifle is much less effective than a Professional sniper with one. Try to only take weapons you know you can use effectively. the best way to figure out what you are good at is to play campaign and firefight.

  1. DON’T DRIVE OFF IN A WARTHOG OR FALCON WITHOUT A GUNNER!! whthout a gunner, your Warthog/Falcon if just a large target. if you need to get somewhere by yourself, it is better to take a Mongoose. The only exception to this rule is in CTF games at the end when trying to get the flag last minute in a man rush.

and most importantly,
6. DON’T BE A JERK!! People come to play halo for fun, which they can’t do while you constantly insult their mother.

TL/DR:
DO NOT EXCESSIVELY KILL/SHOOT TEAMMATES!!
GO FOR THE OBJECTIVE!!
DON’T HOG POWER WEAPONS!!
ONLY USE WEAPONS YOU KNOW HOW TO USE!!
DON’T DRIVE OFF IN A WARTHOG OR FALCON WITHOUT A GUNNER!!
DON’T BE A JERK!!

These are just ethics.

Most halo players know this. And I hog the power weapons as much as possible.

Most of these tips aren’t really helpful.

For the past year of halo Reach, kids read this list and did the exact opposite…

You need to slay before doing the objective though.

You also need people like me who play defense, just sayin’. Though I will go for the objective if the opportunity presents itself, or ferry the objective holder.

Ethics in gaming don’t belong in environments where most players play to win by any legal means necessary. Stat padding and betraying people is one thing, but controlling power weapons and not slaying to get the objective is different. I would change the title OP as this does not help players improve on MM, but rather establish your own ethics code on how to play this game properly.

Also map controlling is legit and only buthurt fanboy’s and victims of spawn trapping will complain it’s not fair. It may not be the nicest thing, but it is the most effective way of crushing teams and it is fair because you start off the same as the other team. It is your teams fault for losing control and letting the other team push up on you. If you still complain after been giving this simple truth, then either get some friends and get a team going or continue searching randoms and risking further spawn traps.

While i don’t recommend holding two power weapons as it leaves you vulnerable, it is also controlling the power weps keeps them away from the enemy team. It’s pretty normal for decent to really good players to control the power weapons, the cockiest use two at once. If this is a problem for you, again search with players won’t do that.

As for going for the objective and nothing else; flawed strategy that will get you and your team killed. You need to slay at least three guys (4 V 4 format) before you can push on their base. Once that’s done, you can go for the objective without much resistance. Don’t play the role of the glory hogging hero, work as a team. It doesn’t matter who plays the objective as long as you score points. That’s a problem with people (and myself at times) that they want to be putting points on the score board but for the sake of winning and keeping your k/d positive, you can’t just mindlessly push when the other team is strong.

Also, i disagree with the notion of not using weapons you are not good with. That’s why we have things called custom games so you can practice at things you suck at it. You should also mentioned OP that searching and playing with friends/full team will cause the least amount headaches (lack of betraying, more winning, better coordination etc).

Your breakin’ some new ground there Copernicus.

Well that doesn’t help me much as all I play the game for is the killing (and I just use objectives to distract people to preform more killing, easier to fight a carrier than it is a sniper), it usually goes like this:

“I don’t care how bad we lost, I got 37 kills whilst you failed to cap a single point and died 20 times because of it.”

if you have a mic, communicate, when you die tell a teammate where the enemy killed you, where he’s headed, what to watch out for, what power weapons the opponent has;

also work with the weapons you have; don’t just count on getting a power weapon, learn to use default guns and the ones that aren’t that good

if someone on the other team makes a really good kill and you suck; send them a friend request and ask for tips
