This is arguably the hardest achievement that came with the Champions Bundle, and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to nab it last night. I know a lot of people are having a lot of trouble getting this legitimately, so I can hopefully give you guys some tips on how to get it.
How I got it:
The ball was thrown towards my team’s goal, but missed and landed in one of the corners next to the goal. I was standing near sniper tower and was able to follow a member of the enemy team as he rushed for the ball. I was able to assassinate him as he had his back turned and was picking up the ball.
Things I’ve Learned Playing Ricochet:

If the ball is near the goal, most players won’t be cautious of enemy fire and will rush in for the ball. Thus you could probably camp next to the goal and your ‘assassination victim’ probably wouldn’t even notice you. Crouching or using Camo would up your chances even more.

To pick the ball from the corner, the enemy player will have to have his back turned, giving you perfect assassination positioning.

If you sprint you can easily catch the ball carrier, as he cannot sprint himself.

Don’t forget that the oddball carries a one-hit melee kill. If the guy you are trying to assassinate sees you behind him on your radar, he can simply turn around and melee you.
Possible Methods:

Wait for a throw to end up in the corner near the goal, and crouch or camo camp in the opposite corner. As soon as your enemy is about to get the ball, rush up and get in position.

Do the same thing as above, but purposely throw the ball into the corner.

Stay near sniper tower, and if you see an enemy without a teammate escort about to run the ball in simply follow him. It is probably a good idea to use camo for this because you don’t want to show up on radar.

Get into a fight near your own goal and throw the oddball at your enemy. It will probably take him a second or two to realize that he has it, giving you time to assassinate him. If you are skilled at using the thruster pack to assassinate enemies, then use that.
There are obviously a lot of risks with these strategies, as if you get killed then the other team gets a free 50 points, your teammates might pick up the ball laying near the goal or might shoot the ball carrier.
You probably won’t get the achievement in your first game, so above all be patient and keep trying.
