I’m really struggling at the part where you need to hold the area with the mini guns while Courtana tries to open the door. Any suggestions? The Knights are just so hard to take down on Legendary…
I’ve done it loads of times. All you have to do is make sure that every marine you encounter before that part stays alive, then they’ll get on the turrets and hold the fort, which makes it much easier. Then just pick off the crawlers with head shots first and take down Watchers quickly.
If you dont have any marines handy, run away. Seriously. The tree thats fallen and acts as a path to the upper left side about halfway down the hill is a good spot to attack from. Use the top end of it, holo and come out firing. Use the railgun on the knights to take out shields and quick switch to a rifle and cap them in the head from range.
Crawlers, just plug em in the head for instant 'sposion.

^^ This, I had no marines the first time and it took me AGES. I had to play it again on my xbox and luckily all or most of the marines survived to it was about 20x easier.
Heres what I did for this portion (with zero marines alive)
Before you insert cortana into the console set yourself up with all the ammo you need. dmr/railgun/autosentry is what I use there.
As soon as you insert cortana sprint to the furthest chain gun(standing at the terminal facing away from the door where the mobs spawn, you will run past the 2 turrets infront of you along the right edge till you get to the 3rd turret set up on the side.)
As soon as you get to the turret, activate your auto sentry and hop on the turrent. Make sure you DO NOT remove the turrent as it has unlimited ammo as long as it is mounted.
Using the turrent mow down everything that spawns, when the sentry goes down, dismount from the turrent and reactivate it. If your shields drop hop off the turrent and retreat to your right. There will be a cubby hole that you can duck into and take cover with only one entrance that they can charge you from. They have to cover some terrain to get to you.
After your shields have charged duck out of the cubby hole and reactivate your sentry and rinse and repeat at the turret.
additional info
you can rip off one of the two turrents prior to inserting cortana into the console and set the turrent down infront of the cubby hole to the right of the 3rd turret that way you have a turret to retreat too when your shields drop.
It took me a couple runs to get the hang of it, but it was fairly simple once I figured it out.
Good luck and happy fraggin.
The tactic i used (with no marines) on legendary, was after i hit the switch, (facing away from the door) i would drop my Auto Sentry then man the turret in the middle. I would unload on the nearest Knight (usually killing 1 or 2) until the crawlers start to overrun the top of the hill, then i would run to the right along the ridge towards the turret on the right. If you pass the turret you will see a nook where the trees intertwine, and you can hide inside there to pick off the Crawlers. I just activated the Auto Sentry and picked off the enemies one at a time. I did it with a light rifle, a shotgun and an Auto Sentry, and when i ran out of ammo with my light rifle, i just activated the Auto Sentry and then ran out to the closest turret to take out the closest knight,(you can use the Railgun as well) and as you take out the knights you get more room to work with. The hologram would probably be a better choice, but i had good success with the auto Sentry. It worked as a good distraction, and it killed enemies as well, while giving me a chance to get shots on enemies. Hopefully this will help in some way

I used the same tactic
Awesome
I backtracked to where you first come out with the marines. because every time i went back the map would reload and so would the weapons. so i would load up on dmr rounds and just keep picking away from a distance. the top of the hill was a death trap for me.

THIS
Oh, and the two rail guns respawn (one by the bunker door, the other by the sandbags past the fallen tree). Between trips to reload my rail gun (which I used a range like a sniper rifle) I would pop an auto turret and pick off as many prometheans as I could while they were distracted.
When the knights charge, I switch to my shotgun and blast them in their face.
Once I stopped trying to hold the hill, it became a lot easier.
Still can’t save all the marines, but I’ll hold off on trying that again until I get a co-op game going.
The railgun makes Knights much easier to deal with. Railgun -> headshot with Light Rifle -> dead Knight.
Also, is it just me, or do the turrets reduce damage from the front? I lost my shields a few times, and it seemed like as long as I kept the turret pointing at the enemies, I could take a surprising amount of fire for Legendary.
As others have mentioned, that little hole off to the side is useful for getting your shields back.
Yeah, that part took me a while too. Just pop the crawlers in the head as they come. As for the Knights, I just kept using the turret. I probably got a bit lucky on that part, but it is doable.
thanks for all the responses! i sort of went gung ho up to this point and im left with little dmr ammo and had taken down a key chain gun. also no marines ;-p. looks like ill be restarting the mission which shouldn’t be that bad.

where do the dmr rounds show up when you do this?
You can run back to the beginning of that rally point start and pick up extra DMR ammo. It keeps respawning whenever you see the “loading…” message. Those turrets also respawn so you can rip that one way off on the right more than once. Just hang back and kill crawlers, watchers, then knights.

DMR, railrun, and grenades are all right at the door where the barricades are. Just look around the sandbags you cant miss them.
And also right at the bottom of the hill where the marines were to start with, there is more DMR and railrun ammo.
