I’m not going to say I’m some kind of expert gamer, but I’ve always been competent at FPS multiplayer.
Generally speaking, I always do well with such games, but I just can’t get on top of Warzone.
I’ve done a little better as I have gotten more Reqs (a system I hate, BTW) such as the Longshot BR.
But still, I just get mowed down over and over again.
Some of this is due to flaws in the game, I believe.
However, I have learned from the past to point out Halo’s flaws only invites nasty reactions from the fans.
Besides, what would that accomplish? 343 isn’t going to make the changes I want, so Instead I’m asking you for some pointers on how to get ahead in Warzone.
Since Spartan kills are essentially meaningless in this gametype, your best bet for a win is to sit as far back from the action as possible while trying to land the last shot on legendary bosses.
In all honesty I hated war zones when it first launched. But that’s because I’m the type of player who likes smaller teams because it’s easier to work together and complete a single objective, whereas in war zones it’s more hectic and there are at least three objectives at any given time you could be working towards. HOWEVER, I recently started playing when none of my friends are on (because I usually prefer playing with a full Fireteam in arena) and have actually surprisingly been successful. I just prioritize the objectives. So, for example, when there’s a boss up I always go for it and try to get as many BR bullets and grenades on it as possible (I also use a load out of two BRs to help with that), and then after that I’ll actually try to help pick off players while attempting to take control of another area.
its rough, I’ll give you that. But hopefully you have better luck.
Just keep playing. I have over 250 Warzone games now and only just starting to really feel comfortable with the maps and the REQ system. Also try and make friends. Makes life a lot easier if you have people to watch your back. There are quite a few guys who play Warzone seriously so you have to expect to come up against co-ordinated opposition occasionally.

I would say party up with people. It gives you better communication.
Its a 12v12 so check out the area before you go in, like any other Halo game. Don’t ever rush in.
BTB is great for practice since its 8v8. People always communicate in their games. Okay well maybe not always.

OK.
“Flaw” is a poor choice of words. I’ll just say “Criticism” for now on.
Sadly, if you want to “get gud” you have to learn boss spawns. When they spawn, where they spawn, and how they are oriented when they spawn. You can assassinate several early bosses in Warzone if you know what to do on a given map and the fastest way to get there. This raises your personal score very high and gets you a lot of req levels early on.
Practice vehicles. Master driving the warthog and be the best wheelman you can. Your personal kill count doesn’t matter, so if your gunner does well, you are doing well. Get good at driving a warthog and use them early on to assert early dominance.
Promethean weapons tear down prometheans. Splinter grenades tear down everything on a direct hit and can cut off an enemy’s escape or EMP a vehicle.
The man with the best BR skills is God. Sentinel BRs can beat out DMRs and even Sniper Rifles in the hands of a skilled player.
Develop a routine and work on it. And remember that no matter how good you get, if you get stuck on a team with 11 people who don’t know what they’re doing, you will still lose. Warzone is a matter of luck as much as skill if you don’t go in with a fireteam.

No offense but I strongly disagree with that. That would be the most boring way to play Warzone for me. Kills are not the focus, but it is more about controlling the flow of battle. You absolutely need kills if you want to capture an armory for example. Also they add up over time, I think you get 1 point per kill.
It takes a while to understand how Warzone works, as others have stated I just suggest you keep playing, and try to party up if possible it is a lot more fun in my experiences. Also, you can sometimes play Assault to play a simpler version, to take a breather.
It can be frustrating when the other team gets the legendary boss kill, but that is part of the excitement for me, getting that last shot…will one of my teammates do it, or someone on the opposing team? Sometimes we do, other times they do…there are always things you can do to help your chances. Try to set yourself goals based on the situation, don’t just wander around aimlessly looking for Spartans. Also, Banshees are great in Warzone and it helps to learn the map well flying high and seeing all. Good luck
Most players follow a basic strategy of three Rs, Respawn, Req and Rush. There are tons of ways you can take advantage of that.
If, for example you are on Apex and the enemy is holding the Spire and the Armory closest to their core, you can be reasonably certain that the vast majority of them are going to spawn at the Spire and either make a run at your Armory or try to defend what they have. Most players on your team are going to spawn at your Armory and hit the mancannon towards the Spire to try and cap it. That means there is going to be a lot of chaos around those two bases, and even a pro player is going to have a hard time staying alive in the melee. It also isn’t likely, unless one team is significantly more skilled than the other, that either team is going to get another cap if they’re just pounding away at each other.
In this scenario you’ve got a few options. First, you probably want to spawn at your Homebase sometimes, not your Armory. Spawning at the Armory means spawning in or near the chaos, and there is a higher chance you’ll be spawn killed. If your Armory is in danger when you Spawn, it isn’t all that far to get to it through the door in Homebase’s sniper’s nest. If it isn’t and you are a good shot with your BR or DMR or have a Beam or Sniper Rifle, you can head up to the nest and try to pick off the enemy defending the Spire. At the very least, you’ll be able to harass them enough to distract them from your rushing teammates and maybe tip the scales a bit in your team’s favor. Another option would be heading for the Spire from a different angle. Most of your team is rushing the Spire by the most direct route, try slipping out of Homebase on the side and seeing if you can’t flank them. Or of course you could make a play for the Armory behind the spire, particularly if you are talking to your teammates and can get another Spartan or two to go with you. Finally, you can focus on bosses, let the other team hold their bases, just work with your team to hang onto the Armory, play defensively and only rush out to get boss kills. Sit back in cover with a Spartan Laser or something and when you see a boss’s lifebar getting low, storm out and try to grab the kill. Your team will need to continue hitting the Spire to keep the enemy busy, but the main focus is holding your Armory and grabbing boss kills.
The most important rule in Warzone is this: If you are dying a lot, change what you are doing. Spawn somewhere else, take a different path towards your objective, switch objectives entirely. You can be the best Halo player in the world, but if the enemy team knows where you are likely to be, they can take you out over and over with sheer numbers if they have to. Trying to be unpredictable is the key.

I agree with Alucard.
Also, I definitely enjoy going after other players rather than Prometheans and Covies.
But they get you the higher points.
I probably should say I’m not necessarily looking to get better points. Just lasting longer and doing better all in all.
When it comes to Multiplayer, I often don’t care if my team wins or not (except for CTF). I just want to have fun.
I would rather lose the game but have fun rather than have my team win but not be able to take two steps without being massacred.
I honestly don’t use any of the req items, I sell them all for points that I can use to buy more packs in order to unlock permanent items (since I 95% of the time play arena). I usually manage to get top three on my team by just having two BRs in my loadout. It seems to be working for me.

I see a few options for “lasting longer” that can still be useful:
Play the long-range game. Scoped precision weapons, active camo, motion tracker armor mods, suppressed loadout weapons; be a ghost.
Play base defense in a hotly contested structure. Not every game has one of these, but you get more points for base defense kills than other kills, I think. Also, you get a fairly steady supply of targets.
Do the boss hunting thing, but don’t fight the bosses. Lie in wait nearby and attack enemy players that go after them. You deny their team the points while getting a distracted target. Give them a second to engage the AI though so you can really surprise them. Also, if teh AI kills them, but you were the last player to shoot them, you get credit for the kill.
The best advice I can give you is based around three things. Lean the maps, your REQs, and get a good team.
Learn the Maps - This can be boiled down to how it sounds, play, play, and play, until you know map placement and boss spawns on each level - Learn your REQs - If you know what to use and when it will be completely beneficial, getting a good warthog in at a good time can make the difference between life and death - Get a Good Team - 3 - 4 people who are good at communication can make the difference between wining and losing. Also try not to rage, it can really hurt you not only socially, but also it can destroy focus. Not saying that you do rage, just saying try to avoid it if you do.

Fortunately I don’t use a headset…so nobody hears me when I rage
For me I have different ways to handle a map
Apex-Patrol the caves and go after Bosses Legend or common
Stormbreak- Hangout in fortress or rush to take Fortress
ARC- Boss hunt, player hunt and take the armories
Noctus- stay in garage defend it and snipe players
if we are 30 VP away from victory then i rush
-Master Juggernaut
In terms of Warzone objectives getting individual kills isn’t the most important things. Getting the boss takedowns are more important for example.
However if you want to avoid getting killed as often I would just suggest have better weapon recognition. Like know if you like to stay in an enclosed area such as the Garage on ARC then you should use an effective close combat weapon versus a longer shot.
