Now I know I’m probably going to get some flak for making a topic like this, but I’m having some trouble and confusion when using this weapon. Sounds odd, doesn’t it?
I tried using it during the midnight launch of playing the game and I deemed the weapon rather useless since it didn’t seem very effective. In my experience you had to get far too close for the charge shot to be practical, the charge takes way too long, and that the regular pistol shots were far too weak.
However, as time has gone on, more and more people have been using it for the shotgun effect the gun has. I don’t know if it’s just me, or if I just need more experience with the weapon or something, but it seems like other players can get with from WAY farther ranges than they should be. My Boltshot doesn’t seem nearly as good. I usually run the Magnum on most of my classes, but I like some variety here and there.
So, does anybody have any tips they want to give me? I’ve played every Halo game and I would like to think that I’m above average when it comes to shooters, but I just can’t seem to figure this weapon out even though it seems pretty straight forward.
Oh, and I hope everyone is enjoying Halo 4 as much as I am! I love it, thanks 343i!
It’s great for baiting people. Get in a fight, and take some dmg then back off. Chances are high they will rush you because you’re weak and they want a kill, and that’s when you make them rage quit.
Take promethean vision hide behind a corner where you know an enemy is coming, charge your pistol and fire when ready. You need to keep in mind that you are not the only person who can’t use the Boltshot from far because it is an extremely close quarter weapon
> After using it for a long time and getting a lot of kills, all you have to do is time your shots. Make sure to charge before you actually see them.
Can you release the shot as soon as you think it’s fully charged, or do you have to wait for the weapon to do it for you? I think that’s where my biggest mistake might be.

You can release it as soon as it’s charged. The auto-discharge is just to prevent walking around with it fully charged all the time.

Oh, all right. I’ll try it out again later tonight. I’m sure I’ll do better with it now.

I know. Its just that in FFA the boltshot is my go to weapon, since almost everything is CQC.
Yes there is a point because you don’t need to wait for the cool down after the charged shot. If you press reload right after the shot you will be able to charge it up again immediately instead of waiting for the cooldown.
It’s game breaking.
Remember there are 2 charged bursts in one clip. Without this glitch you’d have to wait about 1.5-2 seconds after the first charged shot. But with this glitch, you won’t need to wait at all, immediately start charging your second burst.

Hmmm. I watched the video. It seems that I have been unintentionally doing this glitch. I just thought thats how dexterity made it.
> Other than that, I believe you can kill someone at 5m with it charged.
Yes you can.
Also, don’t release early. There were countless times where I could’ve gotten the kill except I released too early and ended up standing there like an idiot with my boltshot out.

Well if you go into a custom game, you can tell by using it without reloading after the first burst.
You need to wait quite a while until you can charge your second shot again.
Thanks for the thread. Durting the campaign, the overcharge seemed almost useless so in MM I have hardly touched it, but people have been using it very effectively, so I have to seriously reconsider the weapon and practice.
