Hey everyone, topic is the question. Reason for this is little to none of my friends play Halo Wars or Halo Wars 2 and I would like to soon go into actual PvP matches rather than PvAI. I did go into the deathmatch playlist, but I ended up being the last one and just turtled with my Condor and LOTS of hellbringers and Cyclops. And for anyone that says I should just practice in 1v1 online, I personally don’t feel comfortable with that since i’m a bit on the low-skilled side. I just want to feel like a competent teammate and be able to help when needed. I’ve got the basics of be sure to support your teammate and be aware of their activity, and take advantage of pinging the map.
So, any advice you guys have? Any and all comments (other than rude ones) highly appreciated!
Well, if you want a teammate you can add me and we can play together. I won’t be on much till the second week of May because of finals, but I’d be willing to play with you!
As for tips for playing alone, if you have a mic use it. Ask your team what they’re going, tell them what you’re doing, etc.
Always Communicate, be aware, be alert and always spend your resources. If you have a surplus of supply or power, you’re not managing your economy to its full potential. I would never put in queue more than two units to a structure either, those resources could go somewhere else. Good luck out there.
The fact that you want to be a competent teammate shows you have a great mentality! That is half the battle to being a good teammate.
One big thing to remember when jumping into Team War solo is that your actions and builds are really the only ones you can control. Halo wars 2 requires both proactive building/setup early and also reaction to both the enemy and your team. In a 3v3, if both your allies are teching, you will probably want to pump out some units to try and contest map control a little and defend, but know that your allies wont have much to help. If they are rushing, you could join them on a single target or get a safe early expansion/tech.
The key in Team War if you’re not on comms is to focus on applying pressure to the enemy while being aware of what your team are doing. Another example: If your allies are hurtling up, don’t attack the enemy alone. They will have 3 armies to your one. Alternately, if your ally is attacking on one side of the map, you can join them or apply pressure on the other side, just don’t let them go in alone as they will be 1v2.
The point of all this is to say in Team War as a solo, you have to watch for your allies and what they are doing as much as the enemy but especially with build compositions and attack patterns. If your ally is going purely banshees/hornets, make cyclops for the enemies inevitable anti air.
HW2 is all about knowing what variables you control on the battlefield. Good luck out there and I hope I answered the question
Thanks for all the quick and constructive replies! I will take all into consideration, thanks again and good luck everyone!

You have the basics. Besides pinging the map, make sure to help support power nodes, especially early on. Usually you can take a node with 3 infantry units pretty easily, so helping grab those early on helps a lot. Also, do periodically check in on your teammate’s unit composition. It does not help a lot if your army looks similar to theirs… because whatever the counters are will foil you both. Just try to keep a variety of units so your team can’t be easily countered. If you see your teammate start an engagement without you, it helps to press on the other side of the map, or if you cant, at least try to help them out with some active leader powers.
Not to come across snarky (and I am being serious), but plugging in your microphone helps to. In all seriousness, mics help a lot, even if your teammate isn’t talking back to you, sometimes it helps if they can hear you.

Clerics got a great point here. Even if your army is far away, consider your leader powers when looking at what your ally is doing.
Does your allies base need to survive 5 more seconds to get that Scarab out? Atrioxs bulwark it. Does he need help defending while you attack or vice versa? Close air support. Leader powers are very strong and knowing all of the leaders and what you can contribute if this or that happens is inportant.
Can’t tell you how many games have been saved because I bulwarked my buddy’s forces right before eradication popped. Things like that really change games. It requires a split focus on the map but a dislocate or turret drop can swing an ally’s fight in your team’s favor.
Good luck out there.
Well I run off my teammates. Check what your teammates are doing always. When I play alone I get my base and resources and everything I need done so this way I can pitch in with my team. But i always See what my teammates are building so I can differ-ate. (example: if my teammate is going all air I will go vehicle or infantry) When my teammate is making a push I will come along (if i have the units) or if they are getting attacked I help defend. What I am trying to say is try playing off your teammates, and if it ends in a 1v3 or 1v2 try expanding or try out playing the enemy. But attack one at a time and do NOT let them push you as a 1v2 or 1v3 on defence will go badly. your best bet is to pick them off 1 by 1 hoping they wont team up.

Not taken that way at all. Definitely is looking like timed team attacks/support and communication will be key. Appreciate the advice!

I suggest you join the club Halo Wars Nation. There is 8100+ people in this club and there is ALWAYS someone looking for a partner in the “looking for groups” section.
Halo Wars Nation
My advice would be to rush 100% of the times.
Why?
If it works you won the game in less than 12 minutes.
If it doesn’t you can reach mid game depending on how smart your enemies are.
If they are smart and retaliate and beat you up, you can just Resign and search for a new game having lost no more than 15 minutes.

rushing is for losers. anything before 5 minutes is for losers

I was hoping this was sarcasm, but then I looked at your service record.
Let’s not deviate from the topic. The OP asked for advice so I gave him my honest advice for team war.
Keep up pressure! Small forces at undefended or out of the way bases can go along way when team mates are attacking else were. If you can’t be next to them or work with them at the moment drawing enemy team mates back to a supply base, mini base, or power nodes to defend can thin out your enemies defence forces and draw attention away from key frontline positions. Remember the enemy team may not be on mic either, getting them to miscommunicate or telegraph strategy is also good!
